Some good old fashioned ATX boom music, brought to you by Harvey H featuring Mista Mo.

Two of my favorite Austin emcees who embrace not giving a damn about convention have teamed up for a dope song, video and shirt. KILMATIK is the brain behind the idea, and Emcee Eats is on the idea assist, as well as running point on the artistic end. The result is more of what Austin hip hop needs… diversity, unique expression, and solid collaboration.
I wouldn’t mind hearing a full length from these cats, maybe even with an album length video or some other additional expression attached to it. Here’s to being dope and not caring what others think.

A friend of mine with Transmission Records recently hipped me to Anya, and I am forever thankful that he did. While not the first female MC from the Austin area, she is the first to approach Lauryn Hill status in terms of blending a feminine mystique with a strong sense of lyricism. Blue Ink, featuring Bluu Suede on the hook, is both a love letter to Austin and a reminder to keep those you love in your head and heart at all times. I am definitely looking forward to what the future holds for Anya.

Props to Crew54 for capturing the night, and props to musicNmind for always putting on dope shows. Extra props to Blueprint for showing the ATX love for over a decade.

Ceschi, the mind behind Fake Four Records, is currently in Europe touring. Interesting things always seem to occur in his life, and this snippet is another one of those golden moments that, lucky for us, was caught on film. All Dogs Go To Heaven is a perfect demonstration of his musical ability and sensibilities, as well as the ability of his writing to cut right through the bone to where it hits you in a very honest way. Dig it, share it, and support his movement.

While doing my daily searching for new material to post, I came across a music video from a few years back that I missed. Checkmate by DoWrong and B.L.A.X.Smith is about as raw as raw rap can get… beats and bars. Happy I found this… better late than never.

Are Mind of a Different Kind (MDK) trying to lock down Austin hip hop in 2015 on the cool? It could certainly seem that way, the way that members keep dropping darts in anticipation of their sophomore release. This time around, ChiChopz steps up to the plate and knocks it out the park with Neva, a monster of a manifesto in just under 2 minutes. Keep this coming!

Austin outfit Modal is in the process of making 2015 one for the books. After a couple of years notching solid live performances under their collective belt, Modal is opening up this year with a debut album release and a crowdfunding effort to get a tour van in order to spread their jazzy gospel all over this great land.
All support matters, so find a way to help these cats if you dig what they’re putting down!

DDotElles, one of my favorite Austin emcees, getting down with his crew Flyhorses, at my favorite venue, Mohawk. That’s a recipe for dopeness if I’ve ever seen one. Dig it and dig it good, and share it with your people.
