ATX Optics :: King ART Hits You With “Don’t Know Why”

I love seeing my city represented visually.  Things have changed since the late 70s/early 80s, but Austin is still beautiful and visually captivating… even the most mundane set of railroad tracks can be a backdrop for artistic expression.

King ART collaborated with BMC of OT23 and Brain of SubKulture Patriots to bring you some heat in the form of Don’t Know Why.  Produced by Ruler Why?, you know they’ve got the dopeness angle covered on the beats and rhymes.  Listen and observe for yourselves…

Keep Your Eyes Open :: S.K.I.P. Promotes “See S.K.I.P.” EP

My man S.K.I.P. is one of the hardest working people I know.  He is becoming a force to be reckoned with in the Florida scene, he’s got Solillaquists of Sound on his side, and both his music and art are making him become a well known individual.  He will be in the Texas area for July, and by then, the See S.K.I.P. EP should be ready… take a sneak peek at the artist and see what he’s about:

The End of an Era :: Sundance Records is Closing

I worked at this record store for a long time.  It was the second place I visited in San Marcos as a student, after the dorm that I moved into.  I am extremely sad to see this place go… this digital world we live in is killing a lot of analog dreams.   Be sure to stop by before April 1st, because before too long, there won’t be any record stores left…

CMJ Takes Notice :: Lo Phi’s “Fall N Float”

from the digital desk of CMJ:

Lo Phi, aka Justin Ford, is an Austin-based producer specializing in thumping, spaced-out hip-hop. His first LP of instrumentals,Slamma Jamma, was released in January via Insect. Today CMJ is premiering the first video for a cut off of that stellar beat tape for the song “Fall N Float.”

The sample-laden track combines an old-school jazz break with some smooth chords and a hazy purple lead. Keeping with the style of Lo Phi’s misty and layered production, the video coats the producer in blurs and phosphorescent trails as he takes a mellow stroll. Check it out below.
