Check it out… some raw rap live and direct from the SUNGODS, the collective featuring EVOLVE and IBE HUSTLES. These cats are all about the in your face approach, so it makes sense that the video for GR!+S would emulate this by literally having the pair deliver their message in a fourth-wall breaking manner. Dig the video, leave a like and a comment if it moves you, and spread it around for all to enjoy!
While most artists are trying to figure out how to regain the momentum lost from COVID-19 and the pandemic, Evolve‘s only problem seems to be determining how not to flood his audience in his creative outputs. Gourmet Dust marks his 5th offering in less than 6 months, with this one being a collaboration between himself and Detroit-based producer Chef Mike, and the quality has only risen as the quantity of releases within this short span of time grows. The duo team up for some raw, gritty headbanger tracks reminiscent of that golden early 1990s stretch where what you said was just as important as how you said, and none of it mattered at all without gripping production behind it. The Ibe Hustles feature is a nice touch, rounding out a brief but powerful sonic onslaught worth much more than the $1 they are charging for the record. Get on that immediately, pass this one around for others to follow suit, and don’t sleep on your local underground kings.
One thing that I will always respect EVOLVE for is making the type of hip-hop that helped me find my way from fan to artist. While some would be short-sighted and classify it simply as ‘boom-bap’ or ‘backpack rap’, the raw passion and pure elemental approach that EVOLVE brings to the table hits receptive listeners right in the bullseye of the soul. He also has a knack for collaborative projects, and SUNGODS serves as yet another example of this. With collaborator IBE HUSTLES, White Tiger is a megadose of that timeless hip-hop that reminds us how beats, rhymes and life are forever intertwined. If you’re a fan of realness, dig this one and dig it good. Share it around for others to experience, and if you’ve got a few bucks, support these cats by copping some merch.
EVOLVE is back at it again, and this time he has a crew with him… with the assistance of fellow MCs (and professed brothers) Mic Melt and Palmleaf, the culture has been blessed with THREE HEADED DRAGON, a lyrical conglomerate ill enough to stand up to comparison with the greats. Their debut, STAND ALONE DIFFERENT, is an immediate testament to this statement, as it somehow manages to display each MCs’ unique style while still flowing as a coherent whole. The producer list is vast, with input from TRYSTYL, Remy Cosmo, John Henry, Billy Young, Tankwon and Stay Busy, Ill Fisto, IBE Hustles, ? and Phonolit, plus cuts on a cut by SWAB, but as stated before, there are no dips in quality or slow, uninteresting moments… every songs guides the listener through its world, and then hands off the listener to the next one in line until we are left with silence and hopes for more. This one is dope, so don’t sleep. Check it out, share it around, and support by copping a digi version, or some of that physical merch, or maybe even both!
