All That She Knows :: ‘The Bleeder’ By Jonas Wilson

Every knows that I’m a fan of the textured sounds, and many of the people I’m cool with are the same way.  It’s through these circles that I met Jonas Wilson many years ago.  An immaculate songwriter, with a production patience and sense of exploration that matches his songwriting skill, it’s always a pleasure to hear what Jonas chooses to bless us with.  His latest mass undertaking will be an album created throughout the course of 2016, with the first track being The Bleeder.  Dig this track, and stay tuned for the complete magnum opus, dropping this time next year!

KB the Boo Bonic… an old friend, a like minded comrade, and a talented artist in her own right.  It’s been awesome watching her go from rap fan, to participant, to standout status.  BAT SH!T is the video for her upcoming mixtape of the same title, which should drop sometime before we wrap up 2015.  Keep your eyes and your ears open for this ATX representer to make some noise soon…

Move, Sucka… :: Protextor Drops ‘SHIFT’

Protextor, while not originally hailing from Austin, has found the way represent the town’s hip hop scene in some of the most creative and amazing ways (and in a relatively short amount of time).  Aside from a solid solo career and a creative visual sense, he has started the long running weekly Austin Mic Exchange, he’s a member of the hip hop think tank Space Camp Death Squad, he’s getting the foundation set for Weird City Hip Hop Festival, and, despite all of these time consuming things, he’s also found the time to put together a new album.

SHIFT is Protextor firmly establishing roots as a major part of Austin hip hop.  He reps the town both in song form, as well as in the collaborations found on this project.  KB the Boo Bonic, Cap N Kirk, and a handful of others pop up, and a whole slew of heavy hitters get shouted out.  Cop this album regardless, but throw a buck or two his way as well, and help this bright mind get brighter.

Songs About Change :: Norman Ba$e and DDotElles Explore ‘Babylon 2’

#BlackLivesMatter.  We all know that, regardless of the rhetoric that is tossed around out there in today’s world of information overload.  Still, it’s important that each of us, as individuals, come to a personal understanding of this supposedly simple concept.  If not, things will never change on a grand scale.  But you don’t have to take my word on that… let Norman Ba$e and DDotElles break it down for you so that it may forever remain broken.

Forever Changes :: Lench Asks ‘What Happened To Austin? (My Beautiful City)’

One of my favorite spaces to comb for content is the I Support ATX Hip Hop, Do You? group on Facebook.  It’s a nice way for me to step out of my circle of friends/peers, and a chance to get out of my sonic comfort zone.  On occasion, you come across a diamond in the rough, and today was one of those days.  Enter the track What Happened To Austin? (My Beautiful City) from Lench of Brown South Entertainment.  This song is one of the most poignant and eloquent takes on the gentrification of Austin that began in the late 1990s, picked up steam in the mid-2000s, and is still rampant to this day.  This song is like the musical equivalent of the film Slacker… it’s definitely a true trip down memory lane for us born and raised in the ATX.

Girl Crazy :: ‘Hill Country Baby’ By Rock Bottom String Band

San Marcos punk/country outfit Rock Bottom String Band just made a video paying tribute to the one thing that will always give music a run for its money… women.  Specifically, the women of the Texas hill country.  Enjoy a wide variety of beautiful smiles and random antics from RBSB and friends!

Dynamite Soul :: Fresh Kils Flips Otis

Fresh Kils is one of the most solid beatmakers doing it on the American continent.  Hailing from Toronto, and always holding it down for hip-hop, Kils has the gift of taking material that may have been heavily sampled previously, and finding a way to make it uniquely his own.  Dig the video for further proof.

Gentlemen’s Welcome :: Crew54 Release ‘Wyld Gentlemen’

GChrist and M.O.S. both fired warning shots at you.  Now, the Crew54 has reconnected like Voltron to release the highly anticipated Wyld Gentlemen.  These cats come with it in all aspects of their creative expression, so I am very much looking forward to taking this album in, and seeing what kind of visuals they release to accompany these potential bangers.  Drop them a few bucks, and get your people to do the same.
