Same As It Never Was

(click me)

Here’s a little something from me to you, to thank you for all of the years of support, and hopefully the years of continued support.  This collection of songs contains material that some listeners may not have had the chance to own.  All of these songs are from the core days of The Word Association, and a nice cross section of the collective is represented on these tracks.  Take a trip down memory lane!

Spotlight on Sports : Playmaker Magazine

Hard work will get you everywhere.  For Adam Sweeney and Bradford Harrison, a working relationship that started as the popular Pop Goes The Culture broadcast has blossomed into an online and print publication that is a contender in the local sports news realm.

Aside from taking care of the business aspects of the publication, the guys are also constantly on-hand at sporting events of every kind to get their unique perspective.  Exclusive celebrity interviews are also included with every issue.  With nearly 10 issues under their belt, the duo is planning on making things bigger and better.

Visit their online page for constant updates in the world of Texas sports, or check out the Facebook page for constantly updated thoughts and the Daily Six Shooter of round-robin topics.

A Look Back : Skatography by Nick Lochman (featuring the music of .::liquidstereoproject)

Today I was digging through some old media, and I found a nice piece of work done by my good friend Nick Lochman.  It’s a nice Audio-Visual entitled “Skatography”, and it features some vintage pre-9/11 good times in the good old SMTX 78666.  The music was done by .::liquidstereoproject, and it’s a little ditty called Abstract Freefall.

Check it out, and flash back to an easier time…

Spotlight on News : sPYhOP and The Underground Post

San Marcos has been a wealth of inspiration… the town is full of musicians, artists, young business owners, aspiring politicians and otherwise creative people.  One community it lacked, however, was a community of solid DJs.

Meeting sPYhOP put an end to my solo journey as a San Marcos DJ.  An enlightened spirit who shares a passion for music similar to mine, he is a purist through and through.  sPYhOP truly encompasses the working class hero : he is a family man, a student, an on-air personality, an aspiring graphic novelist, and a first-rate independent journalist.

I had the pleasure to help him begin his pet project, The Underground Post.  Originally a print publication, it has grown into an online hub for all things involving art, music and culture.  sPYhOP also stepped in for DJ Crown as a member of Electric Mayhem, and he throws down every Monday night at Triple Crown using vinyl only.

Take a second to peek into the world of sPYhOP, and I promise that you will not be disappointed.  Who knows, you may even be inspired to be heard as well.

My First Commission : Topdog/Underdog

I’ve been in The Epicenter the last month or two working on material for an upcoming production of the wonderful play Topdog/Underdog by Suzan-Lori Parks. Green Apple Collective out of El Paso, Texas is producing the play, and it will run every Friday and Saturday in July.

Seeing as this play was the Broadway debut for the mighty Mos Def, there was no way I could turn down an opportunity to score the piece. Two older compositions fit the bill for the story, but original compositions were made as character themes. Both of these pieces of music can be heard at the Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice page on BandCamp, which can be found here.

Enjoy!
