New Life :: Chris Conde Releases ‘Mariposa’ Video

Despite the lasting effects of COVID-19 and its crippling impact on the live music industry, there are a handful of artists who have continued to persevere in spite of, and Chris Conde is a shining example of this steadfast dedication.  Over the majority of 2020, Conde found ways to stay in the public eye, be it video releases, live stream performances or acoustic performances.  As 2020 transitioned into 2021, Conde made the announcement that an album was coming on Fake Four, Inc. in the spring, and if the Lazerbeak-produced Mariposa is any indication of what’s to come, then hip-hop heads should prepare themselves for more of Conde‘s signature honesty and insight over some high energy production.  Definitely check out the video, run up the numbers and engagement stats, and support your local creatives.

Fantastic Four :: Two Weeks Notice (Mikal kHill + Tribe One) Finalize #FREEcember With ‘A Calm, Measured Response’

“Two Weeks Notice was originally proposed by Tribe One (Niles Gray) in 2015 in the same way most of my duo projects have started… we were doing shows together constantly and started hyping each other’s sets and eventually decided we should just create a project that way.  Niles is known for taking an incredibly long time to write, once spending literally 16 hours agonizingly rewriting the same 4 bars at my kitchen table, but we managed to create our first album in two weeks, while simultaneously booking the tour.  Ceschi asked us to create a Freecember release a few years ago and we had already been working on two LPs off and on since 2015 so we knew we had more than enough material.  Once again, though, we found ourselves scrapping everything we had in advance and ground out 6 new tracks on the spot for our first Christmas-Day release as a duo.  I think the result is an EP to speaks to our isolation in the age of COVID-19, our lives as fathers and husbands and also as two emcees still at the top of their game, over some of my best production.  Thanks for listening.”

Divine Design :: Virgil Wolfe’s ‘Epoch’ Drops For Week 3 Of Fake Four Inc.’s #FREEcember

“Epoch is an emotional record about being mentally compromised during COVID.  I started writing Epoch in July of 2020 with production by Big Lo (Pensacola, FL).  The goal was to document the feelings that kept revolving in my mind, all the terrible/beautiful thoughts wound together creating a timestamp for my depression.  These feelings are valid and need to be nursed and if not faced they can become monsters you find under the bed.
I’m grateful to have the opportunity to release this project for Freecember this year.  It was a light at the end of the tunnel with so many detours in between, 2020 has been a challenge for all of us and I sincerely hope you find something in this project that will keep you going like it did for me.  Thank you for listening, thank you for the support, peace love and light.”

Natural Selection :: EVOLVE Is At It Again With ‘OBLIVIOUS ANIMALS’

It’s partially fitting that EVOLVE would drop an album titled Oblivious Animals… the homie is anything but oblivious, but I can certainly verify that he is a rhyme animal.  Oblivious Animals, if my calculations are correct, marks the 6th release of the year for EVOLVE, and this one is entirely produced by frequent collaborator Jones Got Music.  Those in the know already know what it is when it comes to an EVOLVE release… dark beats, sharp rhymes and gritty vibes come at you in waves.  There’s really no need to waste words here… if you dig hip-hop and you have half a brain, there’s really no excuse for not checking this one out, sharing it around and supporting if you can.

Cold Sweat :: Scott H. Biram Releases ‘Fever Dreams’

After years of consistent time spent touring the United States and overseas, Scott H. Biram found himself one of countless people forced to abruptly adjust in the wake of COVID-19.  With his main source of income and the biggest sense of release off the table, there was really nothing left to do but go back to the drawing board, and the result of this renewed focus is his most recent release, Fever Dreams.  As per usual, the lion’s share of the instrumentation is handled by Biram, but the assist list is full of talent, including Jesse Dayton, Chris Rhoades, Justin Collins and the homie Jonas Wilson.  Hopefully, the pandemic and all of the ensuing fallout is temporary, and in time, we can find our way back to some sense of normalcy, but in the meantime, it’s nice to know that artists like Scott H. Biram have not been derailed from their true passions.

“This song is a series of questions that have rested heavy on my heart for years.  Questions that unfortunately, were answered on September 16th 2020 with the passing of my mother.

My mother battled alcoholism most of her adult life and it put quite a strain on our relationship.  While there was plenty of joy in our time together there was grief tucked away in the dark corners.  There is a quiet pain that exists watching someone you love drown in addiction.  Even when I chose to get loud it still didn’t change the truth.  As it turns out, love only takes you so far.

So, with years of grief under my belt and words left to say -I put them in this song.  The words came through me without effort once my husband found some chords and started to strum.  We found ourselves in tears around our kitchen table once the song was complete.  We found some magic that day.  This song is the truth.  I don’t know who needs to hear it, I just know I needed to write it. “

Residual Energy :: Anthony Maintain Drops ‘Ghost Pipes’ For Fake Four Inc.’s #FREEcember Week Two

“Ghost Pipes (Monotropa Uniflora): Herbaceous perennial plants native to temperate regions of Asia, North America and northern South America.  Their lack of chlorophyll gives them their characteristic translucence which lead to the common names of ghost pipe, corpse plant, ice plant, and ghost flower.  These rare heterotrophic plants can grow in near total darkness since, unlike photosynthetic plants, they do not draw nutrients from the sun.  They instead pull sustenance from surrounding tree roots and forest brush via mushroom mycelium.  This relationship is not symbiotic, it is more parasitic in nature.  Though the ghost pipe does not contribute anything of known value back to it’s host, humans have discovered valuable uses for the plant.  While the entire plant is technically edible, this is not the best use.  Through extraction, M. Uniflora has been found to create an effective pain relieving tincture helping those with both physical and emotional suffering.  It is said not to erase the pain entirely, but to put the person beside the pain in a more cognitive sense of acceptance.

Funny Games :: DC4PREZ Drops Video For ‘KEY & PEELE’

Alternative hip-hop artists in the central Texas area that are smart seem to be hitting up the homie Jeffrey Garcia for music videos, and the results have been nothing but gold.  The latest collaborator, DC4PREZ, recently dropped his video for KEY & PEELE, and the duo cooked up a colorful video full of life and slacker irreverence.  The track is ridiculously catchy, bouncy and radiating vibes, so having a visually stark companion-piece for it does nothing but enhance the enjoyment and experience.  Dig the video, give it a like, leave a comment, and spread it around so that the numbers get run up!
