Idle Hands :: Black Mercy Goes Fingerboarding For ‘PTSD’ Video

(iN)Sect Records has always been known for their top tier collection of producers, beatmakers and electronic composers, but that shouldn’t overshadow the fact that many talented musicians can be found in the label’s ranks.  Black Mercy, an Austin-based supergroup of sorts, are one of the bands on the roster, and they’re setting off 2020 with a bang in the form of For The Man Who Has Everything, a recent 45 they’ve dropped, and the DIY-charm and aesthetic of the crew is captured in PTSD, the first single and video.  Rather than go for a traditional showcase or glamour video, Black Mercy opted to do a twist on the old school punk video by switching out skate footage for fingerboard footage, to a great impact.  Check out the video, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for others to do the same!

Blind Faith :: Curbside Jones Reflects On ‘The Glow’

a3506708736_10

If I had to sum up the style of Curbside Jones succinctly, I’d have to say that I see him as a ‘fly philosopher’.  He is not only very in touch with his creative side, as his unfolding musical narrative, visual aesthetic, clothing designs and photography prove, but his art is bathed in a very humanist realm, with continued reflections on self and pinpoint application of these reflections onto a broader scale.  With The Glow, a collaboration with producer EyeLoveBrandonCurbside Jones takes the upbeat track and uses it to bolster his message of staying focused and keeping your eye on the prize, despite the pitfalls that life continually puts in front of us.  To really help drive things home, Digsbot was called in to help animate the affair :

Self Motivated :: BlackLight And Mista Mozes Drop ‘Do What I Do’ Video

Questioning the drive and motivation of BlackLight is a fool’s errand.  Over the past year or so, BlackLight has gone from an Austin-based MC hustling for opportunities and rocking local shows to making high quality songs, videos and playing festival stages.  His latest track, Do What I Do, is an ode to this motivated nature, and specifically one that points out how those who want to see change must initiate it rather than depend on others to make ways for you.  Mista Mozes drops in to help further the message, and thanks to CR SpectrumBlackLight has presented us with a stunning black and white video reminiscent of those seen in the 1990s and 2000s era of hip-hop, where the culture was firmly establishing itself as the dominant one to the masses, and on its own terms.  Check out the video, leave a like and a comment, and share it around so everyone can follow suit.

Daily Operation :: Chuck Duze And Company Drop ‘Every Damn Day’ Video

Chuck Duze has been putting out music videos in a nearly clockwork fashion these days, dropping an average of a music video a month for the past 6 months or so.  Most all of them have been entertaining, but something about his latest, Every Damn Day, captures some infectious magic that comes with a combination of vision, talent and luck.  The track, a Kato on the Track beat featuring guest verses from You F. OhElephant In The Room and DMT~Realist, is a posse cut with plenty of bounce showcasing punchlines, wordplay and a catchy hook that will get stuck in your head nearly immediately.  The video enhances all of the best points of the song, using digital zooms and stylistic loops the subliminally drive home the ‘day to day’ aspect of the song, while showcasing several ridiculous scenarios for the MCs to indulge in.  This one, despite being released so early in the year, is bound to stick around, so check it out now, leave a like and a comment if you dig it, and spread it around for others to do the same.

Shadow People :: Hatewaker Drops ‘Atmosphere’ Audio-Visual

Hatewaker hit the ground running in the wake of their creation.  From the inception of the band forward, the collective was quick to book shows, release a CD, and as of January of 2020, the group put out a dope music video.  Atmosphere is a display of efficient economy, with a simple disappearing/reappearing premise fueling the video.  The group certainly has their sound together, and the video is proof of that.  I can’t wait to see what they have in store for the future, video-wise or otherwise, as I know they’ll come with it regardless of the choice.

Swag Surfin’ :: Norman BA$E Talks Game On ‘FREE MAX B’

The homie Norman BA$E stays not only creating, but showing love, via his music and events.  His catalog is full of tracks he’s dropped over the years with storyteller vibes, beats that sit in the grey area between different shades of hip-hop, and creative videos to accompany many of the tracks, and FREE MAX B is no exception to that.  The track (and video) tell the story of BA$E taking an opportunity that many of us would not pass on, and the seemingly South Park-esque video is a good accompaniment to the track.  Check it out, leave a like and a comment if you dig it, and share it around for all to see.

Visionary Bars :: KB The Boo Bonic Teams Up With Devin The Dude For ‘Blew Eyez’

It’s not even summer yet, and KB the Boo Bonic has already decided to drop a summer banger in the form of the soon to be smoker’s anthem Blew Eyez.  The track is already smooth as hell, but when the legendary Devin the Dude drops in for the assist on the hook, it elevates everything to a new level, and KB more than steps up to the plate on the verse work.  Her flow has bounce, her voice has confidence, and the bars are (obviously) right on point in terms of the topic at hand.  I hadn’t heard from KB in a minute musically, so it’s good to know that she’s still putting in work and rubbing elbows with the proper company.  Shout out to Dions Cartoons for lacing KB with a memorable as hell video as well.

Combustible Combo :: Blackillac Goes In Once Again With ‘Big Bang’

Blackillac is usually known for high energy, braggadocious, in your face tracks, but for 2020, it appears that they are planting the flag of creative range and stylistic variety.  Big Bang, the latest track and video from the duo, finds them utilizing a different flow than normal over a hypnotic track, with plenty of inter-song referential use to weave between the dual chorus that provides the song a foundation.  Zeale and Phranchyze also manage to show tons of confidence in the most reserved way possible.  This is definitely another winner from a winning team, and the Dan2TheL-directed video helps boost the experience.  Check it out, leave a like and a comment, and share it around!

Legendary Figures :: Michael Garcia And Co. Pay Tribute To A San Marcos Icon In ‘A Hole In The Wall’

Anyone who’s spent any amount of extended time in the San MarcosTexas area over the past 40 years or so either knew or was aware of Eddie Mack, the notorious and outgoing owner of the Showdown Amusement Bar.  In A Hole In The Wall, a documentary created to pay tribute to the man, his bar, and the impact it left on the community, we are given insight into the effect that Mack had on people via candid interviews and archival footage.  His arrival to the town, the establishment of his bar, his local campouts that brought the community together and his passing are all examined and reflected upon, with sincerely powerful moments of raw emotion captured as those whose lives that Mack touched take the time to contemplate it.  This is certainly a documentary worth your time, so check it out, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for San Martians (and non-Martians, for that matter) to experience.

Instant Classic :: The Vapor Caves Drop Amazing Video For ‘Bitch To The Boys’

The Vapor Caves appear to have no intention of slowing down their upward trajectory as they head into 2020.  After a year full of successful buzzwork and a brilliant debut album, the duo is hitting the ground running with an instantly iconic video for Bitch to the Boys, one of my personal favorite cuts from a dynamite-filled project.  The video takes things to the extreme, with 80s style oozing throughout the wardrobe, vehicles, props and demeanor of all involved.  Thanks to the work of Side Label, the visual direction of Andrew Baird, dance choreography by Misa Soliz, visual effects from Orion Garcia and costuming from Mysidia and Never Over Vintage, plus a handful of cameos from some Austin familiar faces, us viewers have been blessed with what is almost guaranteed to be a viral success.  Dig it and dig it good, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for everyone to enjoy!
