More Downloadable Goodness

My Austin DJ friends are putting things together at a crazy pace lately!  On the same day DJ Charlie released his Hip Hop Sessions 008 instrumental mix, my man S.T.A.T.I.K. aka WonderRhythm released a dope mix :: No Songs Cleared 2009.  This is a free download as well, so you know the drill… get it, jam it, share it with friends.

Big Week of Shows :: See Chief!

This week is full of good shows, with lots of variety amongst them.  There will be four opportunities to see me perform this week, and believe me, they are all worth the time…

Monday : Electric Mayhem will be holding our final Monday installment, and it will feature live drums by Patrick Montgomery.  The show takes place at Triple Crown (206 N. Edward Gary), and after this one, it will be solo Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice sets with occasional guest DJs.

Tuesday : The following night will be the CD release party for “It/ll Be Better Tomorrow”, and it will feature the amazing stylings of Henry + The Invisibles.  For those who need a reminder:

This is definitely a DO NOT MISS show… and it’s a great chance to support two local giants on the music scene.  This show also takes place at Triple Crown.

Thursday : One door closes, another opens, they say… Monday marks the end of Electric Mayhem as a weekly entity, but you can still catch the duo every first Thursday at Tantra Coffee House.  This is the inaugural show, and you better believe there will be more to come…

Saturday : Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice return to Firehouse Lounge (Austin) for some exploratory sound sessions.  No cover, good tunes, and cheap drinks… what more can you ask for?

Things We Lost In The Fire

from the digital desk of The White White Lights:

———————————————-

The bad news: as you might have heard, our house was one of the many lost to the fires in Bastrop on Sunday. Jonas was able to grab most of his guitars and one amp, but we lost everything else in the studio (keyboards, pianos, bass rig, recording gear). Our family and friends helped us set up this account for any donations if anyone would like to help us on our way to rebuilding soon.

The good news: Our show in San Marcos tomorrow night was rescheduled, but we’re still going to play at the Highball this Sunday, September 11 (we’ll borrow or find some gear somewhere). We also saved the hard drive containing the two EP’s that we’re releasing in the next month and a half or so (we wanted to get it printed in the next few weeks but have a lot to take care of).

Thank you all for your messages and support. This has been a crazy few days for so many of us.

Love, Jonas and Jenny of tWWL

Jonas is an old friend of mine, and a super creative cat.  Please do anything you can, if you are able, in order to help this wonderful band get back on their feet.

Brown and Black

Normally, I keep this blog based strictly on entertainment, not on issues.  This morning, however, I learned about the incident between Katt Williams and a Phoenix heckler.  For those who do not know what I am talking about:

At first glance, for any fan of comedy, this would seem normal fare both for a comedian dealing with a heckler, and Katt Williams specifically.  Anyone who has ever seen a Katt Williams performance knows that: A) he is extremely unapologetic about the stances he takes, B) he is extremely quick witted, and C) he will take his thoughts to an extreme degree.

What I find ridiculous is how this has become a racial issue.  Arizona’s recent history of anti-brown laws is wrong, but it is completely non-relevant to a Katt Williams stand-up show.  To call Katt Williams anti-Mexican is to create a scapegoat for a bigger issue.  To call him xenophobic completely overlooks the fact that he defended his country towards someone who claims that Phoenix is Mexico because of its overwhelmingly large brown population.

I have been caught up all day in the response via the YouTube nation… here are some of the ones I found intriguing.

NickNack – “Nobody Else” : Stepping the game up!

“Sometimes, the smallest things take up the most room in your heart”
– Winnie the Pooh

Take a second and dig on my old school homeboy Nick Nack‘s latest creation from the latest project.  Very nice audio-visual… this is how you make classic material without breaking the bank.  Enjoy.

Hip Hop vs. Monarch Programming

Monarch programming is nothing new… it was used by the military beginning in the late 50s in order to train soldiers that can be turned from civil, average everday men to killing machines through some trigger mechanism (a song, a movie, a series of events, etc.)

The popular conspiracy theories lately peg pop culture as the latest target for Monarch techniques.  Two of the main avenues have been the Disney universe and the rap element of hip-hop culture.  I am no scholar in this subject… I still have much research left to do.  I have, however, come across many videos that one would find of interest if the believe in the idea of Monarch programming.  Here are two:

Monarch Monsters & Barbies by MKCulture

Hip Hop Butterflies (MK Ultra Monarch Programming by MsDyingbutterfly

This is a subject I will more than likely return to… there is a specific series that I would like to share with everyone, when I am lucky enough to find them again.  Until then, fight for your mind!
