Artists of all varieties that I know and work with.

A Star Is Born :: Carrie McKinley

I’ve known that my friend Carrie McKinley was a pianist for years.  I remember her expressing a desire to begin writing songs back in the day, and I’ve seen the want to be able to eventually perform her songs or write songs for others to perform.  In the waning days of 2011 and the beginning of 2012, Carrie finally began to make those dreams a reality… enter Anchor, the debut project.  A five song journey through the thoughts and feelings of a truly beautiful individual, this album is a highly anticipated must share…  for fans of music with substance, definitely.  I’m just happy that I was tapped for the album artwork, because when Carrie is famous, I can say that I was there from day 1.  Click on the album cover below for a quick fix:

New Hot Sounds :: Juicy The Emissary

from the digital desk of Juicy The Emissary:

“Juicy the Emissary is an aural architect, arranging sounds to create unshakable structures capable of accommodating the most fastidious audio dwellers.  Cultural Refugee is an instrumental album themed on the cultural impacts of the evolving media market.”

Don’t believe that?  Take a listen:

…But Not Forgotten :: Esbe da 6th Street Bully

Yesterday marked the celebration of a life that touched many in the Austin area… a life that unfortunately is gone much too soon.  Esbe da 6th Street Bully of the League of Extraordinary Gz may be gone, but his memory remains stronger than ever.  In honor of a standout on the Austin scene, and to all that could have been, here is a tribute from his crew/family…

An account to collect donations has been created, and all donations will be shared with his children that he left behind. If you would like to contribute please visit : www.octavisberrydonations.com.

Ernest Gonzales :: A Busy Man

For those familiar, and for the rest of the unaware, San Antonio’s incomparable Ernest Gonzales has released Natural Traits, an instrumental gem.  Friends of Fiends music currently has a 2 LP + 1 CD bundle (which includes this release) for a mere $15.  Dig what they have to say about the newness:

“Gonzales’ latest is an album that blends his gift for melodic songwriting with his understanding of electronic craftsmanship. Free of samples, Gonzales juxtaposes live instrumentation with classic electronic tropes to produce tracks that float, flit, bump, and pulse with grace and subdued movement.”

As if that wasn’t enough, Gonzales has also released a 2 song collection on Bandcamp with his Mexicans With Guns side project.  Smile Now, Cry Later is an ode to soul of the 50s and 60s with a fresh update (and about as dope as that description was cliche).  If that’s not enough for you, dig this… it’s FREE!

Spinning Shell web series :: Da’Shade Moonbeam

My man Da’Shade Moonbeam seems to be in the midst of a very creative stretch in time.  Spinning Shell has been keeping up with him and the recording of his new project, and webisodes are being created as completion of the project nears.  Here are two of them, so that you can get a feel for what’s going on.

New Music Alert :: Kinder

The other night, I played a show at Wake The Dead Coffee House (SMTX).  The usual suspects were there, but there was one cat I’d never seen around before.  He told me that others told him we should meet, and we had a fast paced conversation about lots of cool music.  Then he left me sitting with his laptop, and he asked me to listen to his music.

Now, I’m asking you to listen to his music.  It’s dope.  If you’re a fan of Flying Lotus, Boards of Canada, Yppah, Samiyam, or any number of new artists breaking ground in what I would refer to as digital jazz, then you will be into Kinder.
