These Days :: Pleasure Venom Drops Music Video For ‘Hive’

Pleasure Venom has been on a monstrous run over the course of the past year or so.  They hit the ground running in 2019 with an album release, a handful of music videos and a supporting tour with Garbage, and they don’t appear to be stopping things anytime soon.  Their video for Hive, directed by singer Audrey Campbell and drummer Thomas Valles, is a seemingly innocent single shot ‘day in the life’ style video, but as we all know, looks can be deceiving.  Check out the video, give it a like and a share, and leave a comment to let them know you’re supporting this run!

No Scrubs :: Cha’keeta B And Lakrea Stay ‘Fuck Boy Free’

artworks-000542835132-jwcqq1-t500x500

If it wasn’t clear from some of her previous releases, Cha’keeta B is not here for the games.  Her latest single, a collaboration with singer Lakrea titled Fuck Boy Free, plants a flag in the sand on that stance, firmly letting all possible suitors know that dedication and honesty is a must, and that nothing less than that will be tolerated.  The track is an upbeat banger, and Lakrea‘s assist on the hook makes it one that (let for the song title) would probably get some heavy radio rotation.  If you’re a Soundcloud fan though (and I know a lot of you are), then I recommend putting this one in your summer rotation, sharing it around, and leaving a comment on your favorite bar!

Dedication Raps :: Emcee Eats, STORMSHADOW & SK The Greatest Drop Video for ‘Gayatri Shakur’

Gayatri Shakur was the jam when I first posted about it, so it brings me great joy to announce that Emcee Eats and STORMSHADOW decided to lace us with a visual element for this jam.  Not only did these guys make a great looking video (both in terms of production value and location), but the approach matches the lyrical energy perfectly… meditations on self in the midst of real world interaction.  While that may not be the message of the track (or even their intent), I picked up that vibe heavily from the track/video combination, and it makes me that much happier to share it with all of you.  Check it out, leave a like and a comment, and share it around so others can do the same!

Definitive Statement :: Royal Minus And Same Dfrnc Connect With Ruler Why For ‘Conclusive’

artworks-000539670924-pr8ksc-t500x500

Royal Minus is getting prepped to drop a metric ton of Ruler Why produced heat on us, and I’m ready.  The first single, Conclusive, features a guest verse from Sam Dfrnc, and the two lace the guitar-driven track with a verbal onslaught that true heads will certainly enjoy.  This is the kind of hip-hop that gets you amped up, makes it hard to sit down and relax, and makes your neck sore from the headnods it induces.  A burner for sure, and if it’s an indicator of what’s in store for The Regalia, it appears that all of us are in store for some straight dopeness.  Check out the track, share it around, and leave a comment on your favorite line!

Primal Scream :: MC Homeless Drops ‘Not A Human’

a1779758727_16

MC Homeless has never been one to shy away from his industrial and hardcore roots, even while affixing himself firmly within the world of hip-hop.  While many of his recently released songs and projects wade in the pools of the aforementioned genres, Not A Human is a deep dive with cement boots into both of those worlds.  On top of jarring and aggressive production (in the best ways possible) from Death WoodsMC Homeless unleashes a torrent of a statement about being more than your average man.  This one is definitely for those tired of hearing the same old, run of the mill hip-hop and rap, and I’m totally on board for seeing him do this live in the near future.  Check out the track, share it around, and drop a buck or two when you download it, if you can.

Even Flow :: The Vapor Caves Release ‘Hurry Up & Wait’

a4129694141_10

The Vapor Caves are back at it again, and this time they’re not playing around.  Their music has always been high quality, but man, Hurry Up & Wait hit me right in the ear and the heart perfectly.  BoomBaptist stuck his foot in this track, letting all of his funk, boogie and R&B influences shine at full force, while Yadira Brown‘s voice floats through the track like a leaf on the wind.  Dig what Yadira has to say about the track :

““Hurry Up and Wait” is a phrase uttered in frustration, referring to an unnecessary rush or the pressure to accommodate yet remain unfulfilled.  A huge part of being a human has been experiencing this again and again, in different forms.  But as we break old social programming patterns and dismantle systems of oppression, we remove the pressure to fall in line.  We can be our true selves.  The veil is lifting.  Hindsight is the gift that keeps on giving.”

As per usual, the duo also hit us with some crazy promo to accompany the track :

Stay tuned for more from The Vapor Caves, as it looks like they’re just getting started.

Summer Vibes :: The Kid Crio Drops ‘May Weather’

artworks-000528348510-6tpk8k-t500x500

Austin-based artist The Kid Crio hit me up recently to let me know about May Weather, the Kydd Jones produced track he recently released, and I’ve gotta say that it’s a nice change of pace.  The Kid Crio sets aside rapid fire bars for a more stream of consciousness type of flow full of lyrical references, positive affirmations and observational statements, all of which are delivered with energy and enthusiasm.  The track bangs as well, but with Kydd Jones on the production credit, that’s a given more often than not.  This one will definitely make a mix or two, and it’s certainly worth checking out… leave a comment, and share it around so others can dig it as well.

Power Moves :: Protextor And Willie B Talk Shop And Play ‘TMNT : The Hyperstone Heist’ On ‘Rappers Playing Games (RPG)’

Rappers Playing Game (RPG) recently sat down with Austin local hip-hop legend Willie B over a game of TMNT : The Hyperstone Heist (keeping in line with TMNT Month for the show), and the two had quite the interesting conversation.  Topics as diverse as the chemistry of the TMNT team, Willie B‘s numerous creative projects, his musical journey, influences and more are all touched on.  (RPG) has gone from being a good idea to a wonderfully insightful bit of programming, and it improves with each episode, so if you’ve not done so already, definitely subscribe to Baby Lion to be in on the ground floor when new content is released.  As always, leave a like or a comment, and be sure to share this around!

High Rise :: BlackLight And Aline Align For ‘Skyline’ Video

BlackLight out of Austin is on a mission to prove that you can be successful without compromising your vision or integrity, and up to this point, he is making all the right moves.  His latest music video, the visual love letter to Austin that is Skyline, features he and singer Aline pontificating on manifesting your vision, making money, and keeping your head to the sky in an energy-filled track.  The visuals show a lot of the usual downtown Austin suspects via drone footage and artistic dutch angle shots, and the parking garage performance echoes one of my favorite eras in hip-hop.  I’m definitely all for this creative streak that BlackLight has been showing, and I hope it resonates for quite a while.

Isolation Drills :: V3C0 Barely Misses NPR Deadline With ‘Inside A Cage’

V3C0 has already proven his talents in the realm of rock music, acting, graphic design, modeling and more, but with NPR announcing it’s annual Tiny Desk competition, it seemed like the perfect time to flex some musical muscle in a slightly new format.  Armed with a microphone, an array of synthesizers and keyboards, a few cameras, and a heartfelt message, V3C0 pours his all into the four and a half minute performance that definitely had the potential to make waves.  Unfortunately, he missed the deadline by an hour, and unless I’ve missed an update, I do not believe it is in the running for this year’s competition.  Let’s spread this one around, however, and maybe this time next year, V3C0 won’t need a competition to make a name for himself.
