True School :: Ben Buck And Company Release ‘Spirits’ Visual

The Dang Ol’ tour that Ben BuckCold SweatJantzonia and Manny Phesto took part in recently looks like it was a blast, based solely on the feedback from the crew, and the subsequent EP release that followed.  It looks like their downtime, however, was not wasted, as Ben Buck has proven with the release of the video for his Spirits single.  The track, produced by Flobama of Hermit Kingdom, hearkens back to the early/mid-1990s hip-hop energy that many of my peers know and love so well, so it’s only fitting that Ben Buck would employ Diggy and Wyatt El to make a video parallel energy infused with new school editing touches.  Plain and simple, this video looked like it was a blast to make, and it only strengthens the message of the track by matching the energy and spirit (no pun intended) that already existed.  Definitely dope, so check it out, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for others to enjoy!

Group Therapy :: Hermit Kingdom Ends Their Silence, Releases Debut Album ‘TAROT’

a3923264214_10

Back when Austin Mic Exchange was really going strong was when I was first introduced to Hermit Kingdom.  As a product of listening to mid-1980s through mid-1990s hip-hop, I’ve always had an affinity for the group dynamic, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better group in the Austin area at the time than the combination of PhilosMugger and Flobama.  After a few years blazing stages in Austin and on the East Coast, the group took to the studio for a productive, self-imposed exile that has resulted in their debut LP TAROT.  The rawness that the group was known for is still present in their sound, but there is a maturity to the presentation of this project that shows the wait was clearly well worth it.  The album comes on the verge of more changes within the world of Hermit Kingdom, but it’s my opinion that the project might just be strong enough to sustain another brief disappearance from the group.  This album is best enjoyed diving in without too much direction, so I definitely encourage you to do so… maybe even share it around, drop a few bucks and cop it, and ALWAYS support your local creatives.

Instant Weird :: Be Right Back [brb] Spider House Patio Cypher

The sense of fellowship at this year’s Weird City Hip Hop Fest was something beautiful to behold.  Local talent came out heavy to represent, and the local crowds supported wonderfully.  Amidst all of the good times, many were busy networking and throwing ideas around.  During all these link-ups, NateJae Jax Da MenaceBen Buck/Filthy McNastyBig MicYou F. Oh and Philos of Hermit Kingdom tossed verbal darts on cam.  Behold, share, and support!
