The homie Butcher Bear is an Austin legend, with a long list of achievements and creations that have left a considerable impression on the music scene. From time spent performing with Tim Kerr, to booking for The North Door, to running the label i(N)sect Records, to helping organize the wildly popular Exploded Drawing, Butcher Bear has irons in many fires. Recently, KUTX hit him up to take part in their My KUTX series, and Butcher Bear provided a strong DJ set featuring local legends like Lord High Fixers, Kinder, Big Boys, Reaganometry, and even some of his own music, along with musician’s musicians like Polvo and Har Mar Superstar. Check out this mix, and keep your eyes open for more dopeness from Butcher Bear!

Flyhorses are back at it, and will be at it forever. Norman Ba$e and DDotElles dropped episode 2, featuring KUTX‘s The Breaks (Fresh Prince of the ATX and Confucius Jones) and as always, the range of topics is vast and diverse. Period point blank, these cats are entertaining as all hell, and so far the 2 sets of guests they’ve presented are equally engaging. I plan on sticking to this podcast for the long haul as a listener, and maybe one day I’ll be lucky enough to grab some time as a guest on the podcast. Check it out, share it, leave a comment, and support your local creatives.

After 7 years of hard work and endless dedication, the Exploded Drawing family is reaping the recognition they rightfully deserve. 2017 has found the crew expanding into the festival circuit, playing the legendary Low End Theory in Los Angeles, bringing the very same Low End Theory to Austin, receiving recognition in the Austin Chronicle and Texas Monthly within weeks of one another, and releasing vinyl and cassettes via the legendary Fat Beats distribution to commemorate 7 years. Exploded Drawing: “7 Years” Compilation features all of the producers you’ve come to know and love from the crew, an introduction featuring KUTX‘s Art Levy, and it’s all come together on a beautiful full-color gatefold (designed by Michael Scheel) with color vinyl pressings in 2 options. I am so happy for the crew, and forever honored to be among its ranks. Here’s to countless more years of continued fun and hopeful success.

Austin super-collective Sip Sip recently showed up on KUTX recently to do a live performance of their song Cold Sore Wars. The song is definitely a good representation of the band.. it covers a lot of sonic ground. Enjoy!
New tunes from Austin strong-MC Phranchyze. This dude has rhymes on rhymes. Support this man, because he will make things happen sooner than later.
Here’s a little bonus action… Phran doing what he does best. Kicking impromptu rhymes at FunFunFun Fest 2013 for KUTX Austin.
