Triple Down :: Kydd Jones Releases Trio Of New Singles

Like many of the artists that I cover on this blog, Kydd Jones is seemingly always working on something new, so you usually don’t have to wait very long for something new to hit the streets.  I recently found myself in a bit of a delay on the blog, and in the time that the unplanned hiatus took place, Kydd dropped 3 different singles.  TV On is a mellow banger from TyOnDaTrack where his style emulates that feeling of catching random bits and pieces of information from a stimulus running in the background on a subliminal level.  Elon Musk, another strange but mellow banger courtesy of Butcher Bear (the homie), finds KyddTank Washington and Bryson Brown talking about personal evolution.  Native Tongue, the most recent of the batch, finds guest vocalist Y2 joining Kydd on a track by Haris Qureshi as they get vibey and abstract on what feels like an ode to an avatar meant to represent powerful feminine energy.  I’m hoping that this batch of singles means a project is on the way, because as always, the work is very strong and definitely worth checking out, so do so immediately!

Foot Down :: Kydd Jones And Y2 Stand Tall On ‘Steel Toe’

a2084212607_10

Over the years, it seems as if Kydd Jones has found ways to continually reinvent himself and his sound without sacrificing a core sense of who he is as both an artist and an individual.  Be it about bars, a vibe, or a combination of the two, I find myself surprised time and time again by his range and dynamic ability as an artist.  This time around, with the help of fellow Austin fixture Y2, has unleashed a beast of a single with Steel Toe.  Over a track that is deceptively strong despite its bare bones, drum and piano-heavy nature, Kydd and Y2 drop two very different but equally strong verses full of low-key self-props and statements of personal facts, as well as observations on the state of hip-hop and the culture in general.  Like many of his latest tracks, this one will definitely find itself in heavy rotation.  Check it out, share it around, and cop it if you’ve got a buck to spare.

Single Shot :: Kydd Jones And Y2 Wrap Up 2018 With ‘Ducked Off’

a2468316073_10

It feels like I say this most every post I make about Kydd Jones, but it really only seems like a matter of time before he starts making noise on the next level.  As 2018 was wrapping up and people were focusing on 2019, Kydd kept his track record of consistent, quality output going with a final single in the form of Ducked Off.  The beat itself, produced by Kydd, is sick as hell, and Kydd drops bars oozing with swagger on top of it, creating an ominous sound that has only previously been hinted at in his music.  With each release, Kydd is sounding more and more like the seasoned veteran that he has shaped in to.  Cop this one, preferably with a donation, and spread it around so that it gets all the play it deserves.
