Stand Up :: Da’Shade Moonbeam’s ‘Power’ Visualized

Da’Shade Moonbeam has never been one to shy away from the important issues at the time they mean the most.  Power finds Da’Shade speaking about those that serve and protect us, how we must learn to trust without being victims, and how they must learn to do a job that may be against their nature.  The police are definitely here to protect us, but the ultimate responsibility for protection of you and yours lies on the individual.  Anytime Da’Shade speaks on topics that matter, I will most certainly listen.

Heavy Soul :: StereoFiend Drops ‘Urge & Grit’

a0136593116_10

It’s always nice to hear styles collide.  StereoFiend is part rock band, part funk outfit, part hip hop act, part soul.  The live show has always been money, and after lots of studio time, Urge & Grit allows you to get your StereoFiend fix wherever you see fit to.  Can’t lie, I’m pretty hype about getting a shoutout in the liner notes as well.  Looking forward to a full length in the (hopefully near) future.

Powerful Beautiful :: Wild Child’s ‘Break Bones’ Comes Alive

Austin based duo Wild Child recently snuck onto my radar with their video for Rillo Talk, an immaculately beautiful and trippy experience in its own right.  I definitely dug what these kids were throwing down, so it’s nice to see their upward journey continue with Break Bones.  Equally beautiful, this one is set up to be a charting single with the right push and exposure.  Bonus, the Austin Music Video Festival helped put together a making-of doc…

Diplomatic Dopeness :: Tee-Double’s ‘Ambassador Status’ EP

a1132206312_10

Nobody should ever doubt the work that Austin hip-hop legend Tee-Double puts in to represent hip-hop culture in general, and the hometown specifically.  A string of albums both on labels and independently released, a marketing group and several outreach groups/conferences have all originated in the brain of Tee-Double… dude has his own day, for Christ-sake.  The Ambassador Status EP is both a continuation in his progression and a giant leap forward.  Period point-blank, this is a dope project on all fronts.  This is collectively some of the best production I’ve heard from Tee, and as always, the lyrics are on point, but there is a unified focus on this entire project that I either have not recognized on prior projects, or was not present.  There is literally no reason why you should not support this project.

Broadcast News :: Third Root & Reggie Coby’s ‘Reflection Of The Times’ Visualized

Growing up in the AustinSan Antonio corridor is a beautiful thing as a music fan.  Reflection of the Times, the lead single off of San Antonio-based hip hop outfit Third Root‘s upcoming release Libertad is a perfect example of that synergy.  The album is produced by Austin legend (and old friend) Adrian Quesada, and it features the guest vocal stylings of Reggie Coby.  The track in itself is exactly what it’s advertised as… vocalized thoughts on how the more things change, the more they stay they same, and why we cannot accept that.  Share this far and wide.

Naturally Progressive :: Mindz Of A Different Kind Visualizes ‘Astrophyziks’

I recently checked out Mindz of a Different Kind‘s latest release, Foursight, and as always, I was highly impressed with their work.  I’ve seen a handful of their videos in the past, and they’ve always been dope, with that old school Rap City aesthetic that got me into wanting to make music videos and films in the first place.  But man oh man, they’re coming out swinging with the visual elements this round.  DVZN Media got the call for the single Astrophysikz, and it’s ill as hell.  As my last video showed, I’m a huge fan of the pirate broadcast aesthetic, and the geniuses at DVZN Media nailed it.  Add some real raps over solid production, and you’ve got a winner.

Forever Young :: Focus On Old Man Skateboards

12417527_1716622445291376_1380408027622798353_n

Whether or not you still do it, if you ever loved skateboarding, you know that the urge to skate will almost certainly never be extinguished.  Some may let reason and logic keep them off of their boards, while some (myself included) will probably continue to skate in some shape or form until we are no longer able to walk.

The homeboy J-Kid, out of Dallas, falls into the latter category as well.  After being inspired by Braille Skateboarding, and Lance‘s journey to improve as a skater long after being out of his teenage years, Old Man Skateboards was born.  This movement is meant to be a source of inspiration for anyone who thinks it’s too late to jump back in (or even start in) the world of skateboarding.  Give the socials a follow, and join on in the journey!

Banded Bangers :: KDEATH Drops ‘S T R E S S’

a3535236236_10

KDeath of the formidable Minneapolis-based outfit Moodie Black is a busy man.. constantly, there is creative output coming from that direction.  S T R E S S serves as a shelter for a number of singles and unaccounted for songs that have shown up in the live performances and the Soundcloud page.  Weekend, a personal favorite of mine, finds it’s way on here.. props to Belly Belt for the assist on that track as well.  Check it out for sure.

Divine Vision :: MDK (Mindz Of A Different Kind) Drop ‘Foursight’

a1307597088_10

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… Austin hip-hop crew Mindz Of A Different Kind is the real deal.  MDK brings that crew element to our hip hop scene that seems to be sorely missing from the masses… they are a diverse mixture, each with a unique style, and yet the come forward with a unified voice.  Foursight is the follow up to 2013’s Butter & Water, and the work that has been put in over those few years is evident.  Guest appearances Abstract Rude and Myka 9 (and guest production by Blueprint) is just icing on the cake.  Don’t front… support these cats.
