Kickstart My Art :: (Beat)en Senseless Gets Attention

from the Kickstarter page of (Beat)en Senless, by Bianca Sauceda :

Austin’s underground electronic culture stands apart from the rest of the world. Diversity and imagination is the scene’s life-line. Each local artist possesses an original sound and a unique overall approach to music production. They consistently express a sincere appreciation for each other’s work which results in a creative and uncontaminated musical experience for all who listen. There really is a story to be told in the collaboration and perpetual support that is shared with everyone involved.

We want the world to listen.

The film will focus on three local emerging crews: Exploded Drawing, Applied Pressure, and LNS. We will dive into the personal lives of three particular artists: Butcher Bear, Boombaptist, and Lo-Phi. The film will provide viewers with a heartfelt perspective into the fascinating worlds of these artists and explain why they call Austin home. Through the documentation of live performances, personal interviews, and compelling acts of musical creation, we plan to share the spirit of camaraderie that ignites their sound.

All money obtained through this Kickstarter will go toward equipment, fulfilling backer rewards, and promotion. Everyone involved in the production of (Beat)en Senseless works strictly on a volunteer basis. Because the sole purpose of the film is to provide exposure to the growing movement, the artists and filmmakers have agreed to receive no compensation for their time and efforts. We believe that this approach to filmmaking will result in a finished product that is fueled by genuine passion and unrestrained creativity.

Our goal is to begin production by SXSW but we can’t do this without donations. If you believe in the spirit of the underground, please donate whatever you can and share this project with others.

Help us make this film a reality.

We truly believe that the world needs to know about these remarkable artists and the virtually unknown scene that incessantly ignites their music. ”

KUT 90.5 recently covered the growth of the Austin beat scene and the making of this documentary:

If you are able, please donate to this cause… very rarely do people recognize a movement for what it is, and try to document it for all time.  Let’s make this dream a reality.

Wars With Stars :: Cry Havoc at Fronterafest 2012

You know how Cry Havoc gets down… poetry in motion.  This time, Da’Shade Moonbeam and John “Hoodness Gracious” Satberry chose to display their skills with an ode to a popular tale of our times.  Check it out:

Another Demonstration :: “Out Of The Woods” Audio-Visual

In the ongoing effort to visually document every element of my latest solo LP, It/ll Be Better Tomorrow, I am proud to present the latest audio-visual from that series.  This one is for one of personal favorites off the album, Out Of The Woods.  It features an appearance from my grandfather’s GI machete, and some fierce rhymes.  Enjoy!

Glory Gold & Glitter Represent :: Gilded Alliance Vol. 2

I’m going to get personal here… words cannot express how honored I am to have been chosen as volume 2 of the Gilded Alliance series.  My main man and fellow producer Lo Phi set things beautifully with volume 1, so the bar was set high.  With a few collective creative heads getting together, however, volume 2 has turned out to be both visually and sonically strong.

Here’s a word about Gilded Alliance from Glory Gold & Glitter:

“Glory Gold & Glitter presents you with a brand new collaborative series called Gilded Alliance. Incredible producers make a mix for the website. Then, I make a hand-screenprinted poster influenced by the mix. When you order a poster, I’ll hook you up with a download so you can bang the music any time. Everybody wins.”

Enough with the talking… here’s the AMAZING print:

And, here’s the mix… all (or mostly) Texas producers, put together by yours truly…

Order your posters, and get your copy of the mix with it… help support awesomeness worldwide.

Click-Clack’s World Premier :: Get Your “Housework” On

Straight up banger.  I could sit here and type up adjectives and what not to describe this album, or you could just get your free copy and enjoy it for yourself.  This is one hell of a debut album.  Peep…

 Cop that, for real.

Is Brooklyn In The House? :: Suzanna Choffel and Her “Golden Fires”

Anybody that knows me knows that I’m a huge supporter of the DIY ethic.  Any artist that can be creative enough to represent themselves both sonically and visually gets major props in my book.

By that token, the incomparable Suzanna Choffel is taking a big step into the realm of independency… Golden Fires is a cut from the cloth of Zanna’s new life as a New Yorker… filmed in Prospect Park, and featuring the overabundance of soul that is Suzanna Choffel, this video is a definite winner.  Check it out:

Old Sounds, New Take :: Chamothy The Great’s “Melted Ice”

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from combing the Facebook posts over the past few months, it’s that my man Cory Kendrix is always recommending something dope.  This go round, I was introduced to a new cat rocking to an old favorite of mine.  Dig it… Chamothy the Great, giving you a personal take on a familiar gem… take a peek at Melted Ice:

Megablast from Click-Clack :: “Bulletwound” Music Video

I haven’t known Click-Clack for long, but it doesn’t take much time in his world to know that this young man is the real deal.  An accomplished lyricist and beatsmith, his highly anticipated debut album Housework is set to open some eyes, for real.  Don’t believe me?  Check out the first video, Bulletwound…

Don’t sleep on that album when it comes out, or you’ll be sorry.

Keep San Antonio NOT Lame :: Milli Mars

I have a confession to make, and it will probably get me in trouble one day, but I really do not care for San Antonio… I love people no matter where they are, but that black cloud I’ve managed to avoid for most of my days becomes a heat seeker the second I’m inside San Antonio’s city limits.

With that being said, there is a WEALTH of talent that holds it down for Sa-Town.  One of the many artist making a name for themselves is Milli Mars.  If you haven’t already checked out the video for The Alarm, get off of front street and do that immediately.

Because I love you all, I did a little digging around, and I found the album, YMID, on SoundCloud.  The entire thing bangs… dig:

A Star Is Born :: Carrie McKinley

I’ve known that my friend Carrie McKinley was a pianist for years.  I remember her expressing a desire to begin writing songs back in the day, and I’ve seen the want to be able to eventually perform her songs or write songs for others to perform.  In the waning days of 2011 and the beginning of 2012, Carrie finally began to make those dreams a reality… enter Anchor, the debut project.  A five song journey through the thoughts and feelings of a truly beautiful individual, this album is a highly anticipated must share…  for fans of music with substance, definitely.  I’m just happy that I was tapped for the album artwork, because when Carrie is famous, I can say that I was there from day 1.  Click on the album cover below for a quick fix:
