Many thanks to the homeboy DJ Alpha and his baby Monkey Biz Media for this gem. Lots of heat on this one, including some good footage of Electric Mayhem and yours truly, performing “Misfit Therapist” a ways before the album came out. Enjoy!
Two souls…two healers…two emcees…two lovers…two souls… ON A MISSION!
A few months back, I had the pleasure of playing a show/birthday party in Austin with several acts, DJs and graf artists. There was a wide variety of music, and the night was memorable, but one group left a lasting impression, and that group was (RAS) Riders Against The Storm.
Formed by husband and wife team Jbro and Tiger Lily, this crew is as much a movement as it is a hip-hop group. The two exude social awareness, family values and knowledge of self so effortlessly, yet efficiently, that you are permanently changed by experiencing them. The music is both ahead of it’s time and a callback to the golden age. The stage show is on the money… visually and emotionally stimulating.
There are many things currently happening within the world of (RAS). Both of their albums are currently free on their BandCamp site. The website currently host the I AM TROY DAVIS blog series, a tribute to the life and death of Troy Davis, through the eyes and experience of another individual. Their Willis and Tameka skits have been recently used to educate about the Prison Industrial Complex :
Please take the time to keep (RAS) on your radar… big things are in store from this crew, and they deserve all of it.
My Austin DJ friends are putting things together at a crazy pace lately! On the same day DJ Charlie released his Hip Hop Sessions 008 instrumental mix, my man S.T.A.T.I.K. aka WonderRhythm released a dope mix :: No Songs Cleared 2009. This is a free download as well, so you know the drill… get it, jam it, share it with friends.
This week is full of good shows, with lots of variety amongst them. There will be four opportunities to see me perform this week, and believe me, they are all worth the time…
Monday : Electric Mayhem will be holding our final Monday installment, and it will feature live drums by Patrick Montgomery. The show takes place at Triple Crown (206 N. Edward Gary), and after this one, it will be solo Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice sets with occasional guest DJs.
This is definitely a DO NOT MISS show… and it’s a great chance to support two local giants on the music scene. This show also takes place at Triple Crown.
Thursday : One door closes, another opens, they say… Monday marks the end of Electric Mayhem as a weekly entity, but you can still catch the duo every first Thursday at Tantra Coffee House. This is the inaugural show, and you better believe there will be more to come…
Saturday : Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice return to Firehouse Lounge (Austin) for some exploratory sound sessions. No cover, good tunes, and cheap drinks… what more can you ask for?
The credentials for DJ Charlie read like a dream list :: LNS Crew, HOTT Bookings, Universal Zulu Nation, B-Boy City, Table Manners Crew… what hasn’t this guy done? With upcoming appearances at GoodLife sessions (Austin), A3C Fest (Atlanta), and much more, this cat is a star on the rise and a force to be reckoned with.
Recently, DJ Charlie released Hip Hop Sessions 008, and all instrumental gem of a mix. Listen to it, download it, share it with your friends, and continue to check back at this SoundCloud page for more mixes and the like.
The San Marcos Daily Record recently interviewed yours truly, and the article was released in today’s paper (9-23-11). The article covers my progression as a solo artists, talks about my impact on the local scene, and let’s folks know about “It/ll Be Better Tomorrow”. You can read the article here.
Thank you to Jeff Walker, the San Marcos Daily Record, and to everyone in the Austin/San Antonio corridor that has supported me over the years. We’ve only just begun to live!
This video is from the 9-11 edition of The Good Life (The Eastern, Austin). I did a Stones Throw DJ set as the opener, and a group of dope DJs (DJ Charlie, Casey Cuts, S.T.A.T.I.K. and Sissy Ross) did a soundclash battle of Rhymesayers vs. Def Jux. Jason Ice threw in the live art assist. Dopeness.
Check Facebook, or whatever social networking site you use, for future Good Life events in Austin… or hell, check back here, because I’ll definitely make it known.
After many hours of work, the wait is finally over… It/ll Be Better Tomorrow, the third LP by Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice, will be available in digital format. There is no set price for the album. You can pay nothing, or you can donate as much as you like. All proceeds from the album go towards printing CDs and merchandise. The album will be available 9-11-11, but it is currently available for streaming if you would like to give it a listen.
