Not too long ago, the homie Coolzey hit me up with an interesting proposition… 8 bars for a posse cut to help him lock down the final round for a contest known as VPC6, where Coolzey did multiple rounds of songwriting in hopes of achieving victory.  For the final round, Coolzey called in some big guns : A Billi FreeChris CondeLil LavedyIce Tha OneMC AnimosityiMPERFEKTBeefy and myself (Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice) all turned in 8 bars to help make Bring Out Your Nerd a reality.  The end result is dope, and I’m personally proud of my verse, which is comprised solely of movie titles (almost all of which I own physical copies of).  Check out the track, and leave a vote to help Coolzey achieve victory!

Joyful Noise :: Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice Drops Audio-Visual For ‘The Limit Is Mythic’

It feels good starting off 2020 on the right foot.  After a collaborative year with K Death of the iconic duo Moodie Black (a year in which she produced projects for several underground Texas juggernauts), I am happy to announce the release of Panic Ruminations on January 24.  In order to properly support the roll-out, I hooked up with the homie Jeffrey Garcia from the Dream-Atomic camp, and he helped me capture footage for the limit is mythic, the lead single from the upcoming project.  Check it out, leave a like and a comment, share it around so we can get those view counts up, and stay tuned for the release of the full project.

Warning Shot :: Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice Collabs With Moodie Black For ‘The Limit Is Mythic’

artworks-000659677588-b2hj60-t500x500

Many years ago, I played a show with Moodie Black at the now defunct Triple Crown, and I was blown away by their performance.  Sean‘s love for guitar definitely shone on top of K‘s mind-blowing production, and her performances were powerful and captivating.  Over the years I got to know the duo better, even toured with them, leading to a friendship between and myself.  As made plans to grow Moodie Black and the umbrella moves she was making under Moodhouse, she began to offer deals on production, any many emcees (including myself) jumped on the opportunity.  Cut to present day, and a Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice EP written by myself and produced entirely by K is in the chamber.  The first single, the limit is mythic, is just a small taste of what’s in store, so definitely keep your eyes and ears open for the release of Panic Ruminations in January.

Critical Acclaim :: ChiefDoomsday Waxes Intellectual On Film In 2019

b0bb60a657d6ae9cfa1d4565f86fc9a5b8d77c65

For those unaware, this dot.com is one of two blogs that I actively moderate and maintain.  The other is my film blog, the passion project that is DOOMonFILMAfter signing up for the brief dream-fulfilling program that was Moviepass in December of 2017, I decided that it would be the perfect opportunity to begin not only sharing my thoughts on movies from the past, but actively reviewing new releases as they premiered.  This project has turned into a full-blown dedicated journey, with 475 entries to date (and counting).  In hopes of keeping a tradition going, I release a year-end list with honorable mentions, films I consider top 10 worthy, and an official list of the 10 films that had the biggest impact on me as a viewer.  Check it out, follow my film blog if you’re in to that sort of thing, and enjoy your 2020!

Background Action :: JPEGMAFIA’s ‘Free The Frail’ Now Streaming In Video Form

JPEGMAFIA‘s 2019 release, All My Heroes Are Cornballs, has continued to be a strong contender for album of the year, and after dropping a more traditional style music video for Jesus Forgive Me, I Am A Thot, it appears that he decided to flip the script with Free The Frail.  This one is not afraid to show touches of production elements, which helps ground the extremely emotional and honest lyrics that float through the production that somehow manages to coexist as both ethereal and heavy.  The production took place in Austin, and if you keep your eyes open, you are likely to see a familiar face in the video (one that, at one point, had a hard time staying on their feet).  Check out the video, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for others, as it is a moving one.

Inner Visions :: ‘Day For Night’ By Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice Now Available

DayForNight

It’s funny how creative drive and overall intention almost never seem to line up with one another.  In my mind, I was reaching the transition point for my Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice project… the original idea was to wrap up the collaborative projects I was working on with other producers, then make a shift towards more instrumental-based projects.  But earlier this year, I had a production session that resulted in the beats for the six songs that make up Day For Night, my latest EP release.  This batch was too inspirational to skip out on, and it turned out that I still had a few personal views and stories to share, as the lyrics came together relatively quickly as well.  For an unplanned project, I am very happy with how Day For Night turned out, and even happier to share it with the world.  Feel free to download it, donate a few bucks if you like, or go to your favorite streaming service to enjoy it… and definitely share it around so that others can do the same.

Joining a podcast full of hilarious people is always a blast, and when it’s the From Left Field crew of Wendy SimmonsJJ Summers and Morgan Davis, it’s always good for a laugh or two, as well as the occasional bit of thought-provoking conversation or trivia.  This time around, I joined the crew along with special guest and director Stefan Gill, and with the season’s theme being Saturday Night Live and its lineage of films, everyone sat down to talk MacGruber (a personal favorite of mine).  The topics came fast and furious, so check it out and have yourself a good old time.

Galaxy Brain :: Mirage The GR8 Mixes Mediums With Latest Video For ‘THE GR8’

Working over the past year and change with Mirage The GR8 has been both rewarding and educational.  After collaborating with him on editing duties for The Amelioration Collection, we decided to collaborate again on a series of videos with different inspiration sources and criteria from project to project.  For THE GR8, the concept was a simple one, but one that we’d seen work before : sync up a cartoon series to Mirage‘s raps, a la Ghostface Killah‘s underground classic video for Daytona 500.  In all honesty, I couldn’t be happier with the finished product as an editor, and it seems that Mirage was equally satisfied with the finish product.  Check it out, leave a like and a comment if you dig it, and share it around for others to do the same!
