a1168905258_10

Summertime is nearly upon San Marcos, and all the martians know what’s in store : river time, festivals, fun with your friends and plenty of good times set to good tunes.  In terms of the good tunes portion, San Marcos four piece Moon Dunes has decided to throw their hat into the ring with their latest offering, Are You Kind?  The project finds the group hitting us in the feels with their airy sound and laid-back approach, all perfect for these hot summer days we get down in central Texas.  The group has been out on the show circuit in support of the album, so definitely keep an eye out for a performance near you, and support them by copping the project!

Night Vibes :: Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice Releases New Mi

a2104594695_10

I’ve been bad about putting out mixtapes lately, despite the countless number of live DJ sets I do these days.  You’d think that, with a steady diet of influence and practice at these sets, in combination with homeboys like poolboi blu steadily releasing solid mixes, that I’d be better about it, but like most of my art, I strike when the spirit moves me to.  After inspiration from the aforementioned poolboi blu release of his latest sincere mix, plus some talk with a friend about the latest Solange album, a list of songs jumped to mind that I felt would fit well together.  Sometime shortly before dawn, the mix was completed, the album cover was created, and the entire thing found its way to Bandcamp for all of you to enjoy, so please do so!  Share it with a friend too!

Fanning Flames :: SWAB X EVOLVE Connect For ‘Phoenix’ Single

When it comes to Texas emcees, EVOLVE is always going to get props in my book.  His work ethic puts many other peers to shame, his willingness to collaborate is inspirational, and his approach to the bars makes him stand out in an otherwise congested scene.  His latest collaborative effort is with producer SWAB, which is (ironically?) titled Out for Self.  The first single, the driving and powerful Phoenix, finds EVOLVE covering a topic that he knows quite well : rising above doubters and naysayers by staying true to yourself… a truly inspirational message that we can all use in these trying times.  Dig it, share it around and definitely support your local creators!

Making Tracks :: Annie Mirage Releases ‘Run Boy Run’

Annie Mirage‘s recent relocation from San Marcos to the East Coast to pursue an education in music seems to have been a fruitful one so far.  Her talent was always present and apparent, and her ability to tell intricate tales over lush instrumentation is clearly present on Run Boy Run.  The strength of her voice and guitar playing is captivating, and having a recorded version of the song definitely makes me happy.  Check it out, share it around, and leave her a message to let her know you dig it and would like to hear more!

Natural Element :: Feral The Earthworm Drops ‘Do What I Love’ For A Nature Cypher

A couple of years back, Feral the Earthworm did what many of us artists wish we could, and even added his own twist : he quit his job, terminated his lease, turned a van into a mobile living space and recording studio, and promptly hit the road.  Feral toured all over the states, continued to make music, and essentially has been living his dream to the fullest.  In celebration of this, he recently connected with Buddy Lewis & Car Molstad, and over a Flobama beat, he and the crew set out to the forests of China Grade to record a performance of Do What I Love, an appropriate song for the situation.  The finished product is dope, and the visuals match the beauty of their surroundings, so go ahead and check it out, leave a like and a comment, and spread it around to your friends.

Mixed Media :: Attic Ted And Friends Connect For Mindblowing ‘Kafka Dreaming’ Music Video

After dropping his latest shocking music video, Attic Ted is right back at it again with Kafka Dreaming, a collaborative effort with director Rebreakfast and cameraman Ian Cone.  The project was filmed in tandem with resources provided by Adult Swim, including access to their animation services and an abandoned warehouse in Atlanta.  With these resources, Attic Ted and crew have made another mind-blowing video, this one complete with transfers between different mediums, including film, traditional and digital animation.  Definitely dig this one and dig it good, leave a comment, and share it around so others can enjoy!

Reflective Pool :: Poolboi Blu Drops ‘Sincere (Volume 008)’

artworks-000530492478-pcp0yb-t500x500

A few days ago, I found myself chilling out at poolboi blu‘s crib with the homies gostPink Ranger and a few more folks.  We were watching the Rockets beat the Warriors and basically having a good time in anticipation of the Pecan Street Festival that weekend, but while most of us were hanging out, poolboi blu was in work mode, putting together the mix that would become sincere (volume 008).  For this session, we find a series of reflectively lyrical songs with extremely heavy rhythms, all of which are definitely complete vibe-setters.  As always, the mixing is on point, the song selection is way ahead of the curve, and poolboi blu continues to drive home the culture and aesthetic he has created for himself.  Dig it, leave a comment, and share it around.
