Emotional Depths :: Anastasia Releases ‘Born To Love You’

The anticipation for Born To Love You‘s release has been real.  Ever since Anastasia started dropping the initial promo material, music videos and singles, there has been a building crowd of new fans and old supporters awaiting to hear where her journeys have led her.  The project finds Anastasia facing her feelings on love, romance and support in a completely bold and up front fashion.  From the familiar opening title track Born To Love You to the stellar finisher Murder Business, the collaboration between Anastasia and producer Thomas Crager sits with you and pulls on all the right emotions.  This one is a standout 2017 project, hands down.  Show some support, and not just on Soundcloud, as this project is on all major digital outlets.  As always, support local!

Deep Rooted :: Dubb Sicks Releases New Music Video For ‘Dolla $to’

You’d have a challenge on your hands finding a more humble and down to earth MC than Dubb Sicks.  Not many people really and truly embrace their city and their lifestyle in such an honest and forthright manner.  This time around, Dubb embraces the values of living the non-baller glamour life with Dolla $to.  He went to DVZN Media, and the quality of the work speaks for itself.  A banging track and vivid visuals are hard to beat at any level… yet another shining example of how central Texas is killing it in 2017.

Hazy Daze :: Grin & Bear It Releases ‘God, The Devil, And The Law’

When summer transitions to fall, the days (and the shadows) start to get a little longer.  The heat slowly rolls out, and ushers in an era of slightly less heat.  In addition to the seasons, the musical shift tends to happen as well… the party music starts to take a backseat, and the introspective music starts to take hold right before we all shack up for the winter.  San Marcos-based signer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Corbin Young, with the help of a small rotating ensemble, has helped us all out by dropping a set of songs that will become part of that transitional soundtrack.  Grin & Bear It is the project name, and the release is titled God, the Devil, and the Law.  In the words of the creator himself :

“Here are some things I’ve thought, life is crazy, and to survive it I believe you’ve gotta be a bit crazy yourself.”

Big Moves :: CAPYAC Enlists RuDi Devino For ‘Fade Out’

Austin-based wordsmith RuDi Devino has been having a good run.  After finding success with SubKulture Patriots and Retr0gRaDe, he is continuing to find success as a solo act.  Enter CAPYAC, who have enlisted RuDi for a guest verse on the extremely catchy Fade Out.  The guest verse got merc’d, and hopefully, this will lead to bigger and better things for all parties involved.  Here’s to local artists continuing to make big moves and improving their status.

Summer Madness :: Kenny Casanova Drops ‘Poison’ Video

Straight out of the most wonderful version of left field comes Kenny Casanova‘s latest music video, Poison.  This one, directed by Jeffrey Garcia, is a wonderful journey into the mind of a brutally honest MC.  The visual counterparts provided for this musical deep dive hit every beat brilliantly, both tonally and emotionally.  This video gets better with repeated watchings, and the song reveals itself in layers.  Props to Kenny Casanova for a dope concept on song and video, and big ups to Jeffrey Garcia for nailing it.  Definitely give this one a like and a share.

Powers Combined :: NGHT HCKLRS + Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice Collaborate Live

Many months ago, an OVRLD hosted show was my introduction to the duo NGHT HCKLRS, and I was instantly impressed.  I only DJ’d that night, so they had no idea what I did lyrically, but I knew immediately that I wanted to collaborate with these guys.  I kept in touch with them over time, and last week, they hit me up with some tracks and an opportunity to perform with them at Kick Butt Coffee in Austin.  Needless to say, I jumped on the opportunity.  Above is the live video of that portion of the show, and hopefully it is the beginning of what can be a powerful collaborative project.  Stay tuned, I will certainly keep you in the loop with any possible developments.  Enjoy this for now, like it, and share it, and maybe we’ll see more of this in the future.

Nonstop Notes :: Notes Floats Strikes With ‘Lightning Butter’ Video

There are not many forces of nature comparable to my main man Notes Floats.  Dude is a one man army on the beats and rhymes, and lately, he’s been pushing things forward with the music videos as well.  His latest creation, Lightning Butter, is an announcement for the upcoming EP of the same name, and it’s funky like you’d expect a Notes Floats track to be.  His music video approach works well with the tracks, and Lightning Butter is no exception.. simple, but efficient, and relevant to what he’s spitting.  Dope as always, so check it out, like it and share it.

Dropping Knowledge :: TEE-DOUBLE Releases ‘Bless The Child’ EP

a1563488301_10

Of all the Austin-based MCs and producers, you’d be hard-pressed to find one with the drive, vision and longevity of Tee-Double.  Of the many hats he wears (cultural diplomat, business educator, creative advocate), the man still finds time to produce, write and engineer his own albums, adding to his vast catalog.  Bless The Child E.P. finds Tee-Double really learning the limits of his studio, the newly crowned Teetopia.  Breakbeat exploration is still used, but Tee has been throwing more and more live musical elements into his production, giving this album the sound and feel of a funk-band’s back-up.  Add the natural dosage of lyrics about being hip to the business side of the game, the journey from where he came to where he’s arrived, and the inspirational messages he gives to listeners (artists and casual fans), this E.P. is shaping up to be one of the more important releases of 2017.  Cheers to you, sir, and keep doing what you’re doing.

Making Tracks :: Mama K & The Shades Unleash ‘Midnight Train’ Music Video

Austin-based super-ensemble Mama K & The Shades are shaping up for an extremely successful 2017.  After the late 2016 release of their debut LP Honey Made, the collective has released a stunning animated video for the single Midnight Train.  Mixing line drawn animation with color-filtered footage of 50s America, the video is a wonderful journey of visual stimulation and juxtaposed footage of a past reality.  Real, yet surreal.  Here’s to big adventures and a successful journey for Mama K & The Shades.
