Dense Growth :: Lo Phi’s ‘For The Kids’

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I’m sure… there’s nothing liking watching an artist grow.  When you see an artist start at an already amazing point, and then you seem them struggling with feelings of mediocrity, it’s hard not to stroke the ego in a way that stunts their full potential.  Lo Phi is currently on a trajectory to fulfill his potential, and For The Kids is major proof of that.  Granted, I’ve only listened once, but I already know this is a record that demands my attention.  It’s a true journey, and one that can quite possibly leave you changed for the better when you arrive on the other side.  Worth your time.

New Slop Musket tunes, and this time around, the guys are shooting for bigger and better things.  They just recently returned from a successful stint at the Gathering of the Juggalos, and God only knows what the future holds for this talented bunch of guys.  Check out the video for the first single off of Land, a collaborative effort with DVZN Media called FIX.

Out To Sea :: Ceschi Live Footage Of ‘Galapagos (For The Fish)’

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, I’m sure… Ceschi is easily the most wholly unique entity in hip-hop on any level.  The guy can rap on the level of cats like Bone Thugs, where replication of his style is not easy, and yet, with a guitar in hand, he becomes one of the most compelling modern day singer/songwriters this side of Iron & Wine.  This live footage from a recent Los Angeles show at Redwood Bar Downtown (beautifully shot and put together by Adam Boren Bennet) is further proof, so dive on in!

A Fresh Breath :: The Deer ‘Look Alive’

One of the many blessings of hiding out in San Marcos for so many years has been the exposure to a wealth of very creative minds.  One of the most consistently creative groups has been The Deer.  Their songwriting is deeply textured, and their music touches upon many influences, while weaving them together as if they were a singular expression they were simple sharing instead of creating.  Look Alive was recently performed on KUTX 98.9, and as one would come to expect, they did not disappoint.  Dig it, share it, and enjoy it!

A-Town Anthems :: Protextor Releases ‘Austin’ Single

Protextor has been a busy man the last few months.  His crew, Space Camp Death Squad, just dropped an album.  Weird City Hip Hop Festival isn’t too far away, and Protextor is a key element to it.  Austin Mic Exchange, his gift to all Austin based up and comers, is only picking up steam as a Tuesday residency at Spiderhouse Ballroom.  Despite all these spinning plates, he’s busy bringing us one more spinning plate.. a new solo album.  The first taste we’re getting of this project is the Egon produced tribute single Austin.  It’s an homage to the place Protextor now proudly calls home, and a tribute in general to the artists who keep it moving simply because they are driven to create.

We should all be excited about what’s to come..

The Awakening :: Gensu Dean Drops ‘Algorhythms’

from the digital desk of Gensu Dean:

Algorhythms is a musical journey type of record.  It has several music moods that take you places.  Its not your average kick, snare, and hi hat type of instrumental record.  Its geared more toward experiencing a musical collage.  It has been my career position that when you create music and that music creates a mood, it sticks with people, it becomes relatable.  So I wanted to capture several moods, and express them in musical form.  This enables the listener to join in and share the listening experience, based on a mood or emotion they can identify with.  This is one of my many formulas when creating, hence the title.  Algorithms are formulas used to address problems and/or issues that require a solution, I apply this in a music format.  I altered the spelling to reflect the fact that it is musical rhythms and grooves.’
