Visual Visionary :: Gost Gets Esoteric On ‘Views’

artworks-000538104288-h5ix5c-t500x500

As long as I’ve known Gost, I’ve known him to be a man with a vision.  He’s always been one to make sure his lyrical craft is sharp, but he’s also a fiercely dedicated and loyal person with hopes of bettering not only his position in life, but anyone else in his sphere that’s real and willing to put in the work on their end as well.  With Views (an unofficial ode to the late Nipsey Hussle), Gost lays out the gameplan, with a little extra incentive to encourage those with dreams to let them know with hard work, they can manifest into reality.  I’m all about seeing Gost get to that place he often speaks of, because he certainly will have earned it when he arrives.  Check out the track, leave a comment on your favorite bar, and share it around so others can be inspired to make their dreams reality as well.

Gentle Approach :: Moon Dunes Releases ‘Are You Kind?’

a1168905258_10

Summertime is nearly upon San Marcos, and all the martians know what’s in store : river time, festivals, fun with your friends and plenty of good times set to good tunes.  In terms of the good tunes portion, San Marcos four piece Moon Dunes has decided to throw their hat into the ring with their latest offering, Are You Kind?  The project finds the group hitting us in the feels with their airy sound and laid-back approach, all perfect for these hot summer days we get down in central Texas.  The group has been out on the show circuit in support of the album, so definitely keep an eye out for a performance near you, and support them by copping the project!

BluMoon Rising :: ‘Slow Burn’ By BluMoon Now Available

a0913217411_10

There are times when referring to a band as ‘local’ feels slightly like undermining their quality and potential, and in the case of BluMoon, I often feel that way.  True, the band is based out of San Marcos, but if you throw their music in the mix with any current pop/soul/R&B/jazz band, you’d be hard pressed to point them out and peg them as simply a ‘local’ band.  Case in point?  Slow Burn, their latest release, sounds like a million bucks, with its dynamic range of sounds and energy that it encompasses musically, courtesy of Taylor LouisAndrew Harkey and Isaac Pulido.  Add to this the fact that vocalist Kendra Sells effortlessly balances deeply introspective and thought-provoking lyrics with lyrics that shine a spotlight on injustice and the ever-changing highs and lows of human interaction, and you’ve got a project that puts an early flag in the ground as a key 2019 release.  You can find this one most anywhere you find your music, so do yourself a favor and get hip, quick.

Global Position :: META Drops New Visual For ‘WYA?’

Over the past year or so, I’ve gotten the chance to check out META via his building with my homie poolboi blu.  The connection between San Marcos and Corpus Christi has been strong, and it seems that META is definitely thriving, both in Corpus and in his ventures elsewhere.  His latest video, WYA?, is a celebration of this movement, and a call for other artists to step up their games so that everyone is motivated to keep rising.  PRODUCE® and CC Visuals add flair to the video, and with an El Dusty track to work with, META effortlessly rides the beat with his energetic flow.  This video is money, so be sure to like and comment on it, and spread it around so others can do the same.

Mind Melt :: Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice + Lo Phi Call On Jeffrey Garcia For ‘Crying Freeman’ Video

After a couple of low key releases the past couple of years, it’s nice to be doing things properly for 2019 once again.  In the wake of Lo Phi and myself collaborating on Uncanny Valley, I felt it was only proper that the album be given at least one music video to accompany it.  Enter mad genius Jeffrey Garcia, who got with me over the holidays (as well as his band of collaborators you can find in the projects at his Jeffy’s Playhouse YouTube channel) and created a visual blitz to match the sonic assault to the senses that is Crying Freeman.  I’m very happy with the quality of the video and the initial reception, and I’m hoping that the rest of you are impressed by the work that Jeffrey Garcia put in for this one.  If you dig it, share it around, leave it a like and a comment, and go check out the entire album on Bandcamp (and all other music services beginning roughly around January 15).

Glow Up :: Poolboi Blu Releases ‘ANTSY’

a0684478910_10

Over the course of the past year, the homie poolboi blu has been cooking up tons of production, releasing beats, mixes and collaborations steadily from month to month.  All of this appears to have been foundation building in preparation for the release of ANTSY, his latest solo project.  A handful of these tracks have seen the light of day over the summer, but hearing them as a collective works extremely well.  Add to this the fact that poolboi blu is becoming a bit more of a vocalist, and it makes ANTSY a perfect closure for 2018 and an indicator of where things are going for beyond.  Don’t sleep on this project, seriously.

Live Vibes :: Stereofiend Visits Untapped SMTX For A Live Performance

Over the last 6 months or so (it seems), there have been a handful of bands promoting live performances at the Fire Station Studios in San Marcos, all of which I’ve unfortunately missed due to my own gigs.  Recently, Stereofiend took part in one of these performances, and Untapped SMTX documented the event for their YouTube channel.  The band is on point for this one, with every member getting plenty of opportunity to shine.  Check it out, leave a like or comment, and share it around so others can enjoy as well!

Mixed Emotions :: Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice Adds ‘Free Radical Thought’ To The ‘Escapism’ Mix Series

a3156441489_10

After what has been a very busy stretch, something around 8 – 10 weeks, I’ve finally found time to return to the Escapism mix series.  As usual, it’s heavy on the rhythm and heavy on the vibes, with an emphasis on favorites this time.  This set is very similar to what I do during my Escapism Plan weekly residency at Tantra Coffeehouse in San MarcosTexas.  If you find yourself in the area some Friday evening, stop by, and definitely check this mix out… plus share it with your friends.
