One of the great things about the Austin/San Marcos corridor is watching music superfans turn into wonderful bands. Muff is a perfect example of this. I’ve quite often spent time discussing awesome bands with multiple members of the group, and listening to their self-titled debut LP, it’s hard for me to not place them among the company of those groups. Dope songwriting, wonderfully recorded and played, and very well put together. Here’s the video for the first single, East Side Love.
One of the many blessings of hiding out in San Marcos for so many years has been the exposure to a wealth of very creative minds. One of the most consistently creative groups has been The Deer. Their songwriting is deeply textured, and their music touches upon many influences, while weaving them together as if they were a singular expression they were simple sharing instead of creating. Look Alive was recently performed on KUTX 98.9, and as one would come to expect, they did not disappoint. Dig it, share it, and enjoy it!
Blackout Signs was recently commissioned to do a brand new sign for the LBJ Museum (San Marcos). They decided to share a little bit of the process with us. DO WORK!!
Justin Taylor is a native son of San Marcos, Texas. Ergo he possesses special powers that most mortals do not have.
1.He can drink more beer than you
2.He can get hit by a car and sleep it off in a bush
3.He can drop kick two frat guys at once
4.He can break his hip and not know it for 3 weeks.
Justin is a true San Martian, these clips were stacked over a few weeks time just riding around town.

Thursday, February second was hella dope in San Marcos… here’s why:
While there is currently no way to travel back in time and relive the dopeness, YouTube allows us to share some of the captured moments. Here is a pair of selections from the Homeroom set, including the on-stage world premier of the smash hit Cameo Jokes…
Last night was very entertaining and memorable. Expose the Arts was a success, and Tantra Coffee House was full of beautiful people. I received an Honorable Mention for my musical performance… not bad considering it was the test drive for TheDoomsdayDevice, and a successful one at that. Check out some of the pics from the event at the Expose The Arts Facebook page… here are a couple of yours truly.
The night will also feature a headlining performance by Roger Sellers, and if you haven’t seen Roger perform, you’re missing out on a true original musician and performance.
Many thanks to the homeboy DJ Alpha and his baby Monkey Biz Media for this gem. Lots of heat on this one, including some good footage of Electric Mayhem and yours truly, performing “Misfit Therapist” a ways before the album came out. Enjoy!
This week is full of good shows, with lots of variety amongst them. There will be four opportunities to see me perform this week, and believe me, they are all worth the time…
Monday : Electric Mayhem will be holding our final Monday installment, and it will feature live drums by Patrick Montgomery. The show takes place at Triple Crown (206 N. Edward Gary), and after this one, it will be solo Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice sets with occasional guest DJs.
This is definitely a DO NOT MISS show… and it’s a great chance to support two local giants on the music scene. This show also takes place at Triple Crown.
Thursday : One door closes, another opens, they say… Monday marks the end of Electric Mayhem as a weekly entity, but you can still catch the duo every first Thursday at Tantra Coffee House. This is the inaugural show, and you better believe there will be more to come…
Saturday : Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice return to Firehouse Lounge (Austin) for some exploratory sound sessions. No cover, good tunes, and cheap drinks… what more can you ask for?
After many hours of work, the wait is finally over… It/ll Be Better Tomorrow, the third LP by Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice, will be available in digital format. There is no set price for the album. You can pay nothing, or you can donate as much as you like. All proceeds from the album go towards printing CDs and merchandise. The album will be available 9-11-11, but it is currently available for streaming if you would like to give it a listen.
