Austin Mic Exchange has literally been a factory of growth, productivity and exposure for a large handful of up and coming Austin based hip-hop artists, and for a select few, it has been the key factor to taking bigger steps and making moves. One of that select few is Scuare, a cat who came in day one with amazing skills. After collaborating with no1mportant to create the incomparable …&more…, Scuare has stepped back into the solo realm to drop a new project, Alphabet Soup. I expect nothing but thought-provoking rhymes, awe-inspiring performances and the want for more music almost immediately after diving into this one… hopefully the rest of you take the time to grab this project, share with others, and as always, support local.

Don’t Panic :: …&more… Release ‘Existence Is Futile’

Sometimes, pure skill and talent simply cannot be denied. Enter Scuare and no1mportant, two MC/producers who individually are capable of doing great things. When combined, however, these two work on a wonderfully harmonic resonance. Both cats have unique, rapid-fire and melodic styles that are similar enough for the duo to make total sense, but different enough from one another to compliment one another effortlessly.

A statement from …&more… concerning their amazing sophomore release, Existence Is Futile :

“In many ways it’s a celebration of a loss of ultimate purpose and growth through acceptance. The Star Trek metaphor helps to illustrate that notion through what we think is a pretty comical lens.

Outer Space is often juxtaposed with samples and lyrics that relate to how people view sex and relationships. These themes represent opposing points on the spectrum, and serve as anchors from which to expand.”

Grand Return :: …&more… Are Back With A Vengance

Wow. Existence is Existential, the debut offering from …&more…, was already way ahead of its time when it dropped. I knew that when they hit us with a follow-up, it would be good. I had no way of fathoming that it could potentially be as good as the lead single, Faces Places, is setting the bar. Point blank, period, this is the jam. I am stretching the depths of my mind to find something grounding to say about this song, because it literally woke me right up from the first second. Good god, I can’t wait for Existence is Futile to drop.

…&more… is quickly becoming one of my favorite hip hop projects, local or otherwise. The combination of no1mportant and Scuare works in a very synergistic manner. Both of these cats are very talented, but both allow one another the room to shine, which is rare in the group dynamic. My eyes and ears are most certainly open for whatever comes from their direction in the future.

Austin Mic Exchange has been a breeding ground for lots of new hip-hop talent, and it has been a perfect place for networking. Existence Is Existential is the physical proof of those facts. …&more… is comprised of AMX mainstays Scuare and no1mportant, and this album shows them flexing much collective muscle. Show these cats some love by dropping a few bucks and spreading the word about this project. Here’s to hoping this is the beginning of a fruitful collaboration!

We Can Get Down :: AMX Cypher, Volume One

SPACE CAMP DEATH SQUAD, The Lower Class, Scuare, Secret Levels, Mainstreem and Protextor/P-Tek got down recently with the intent of leaving the Austin Mic Exchange imprint on the currently overwhelming practice of cypher videos. The good thing about this take, however, is that it’s full of talented cats who all swung for the fences on this one. You can catch many of these artist at Austin Mic Exchange, every Tuesday Night at Spiderhouse Cafe (Austin).
