Playing Around :: Been Drops Video For ‘Board Games’

Been, currently based out of San Marcos, recently dropped a dope video for his single Board Games.  The video compliments the song very well… the laid-back demeanor that sets up the immediacy of the content… the unique style (as well as a little Rollerblade flexing, which I’ve seen Been do as I’ve driven by)… the sense of humor found in the serious musings… this one is pretty solid all the way around.  I’ll definitely be on the lookout for more content in the future.

Unsolved Mysteries :: Brutalism’s Self-Titled Release Is Amazing

a3199083936_10

Prior to finding Brutalism‘s recent self-titled release on Bandcamp, I knew nothing about them (and, even after some research, I still really don’t know anything about them).  I couldn’t find much information on their label, Digital Hotdogs (great name).  What I could find, however, was time to listen to this amazing album and time to share it with all of you.  Going in blind is the best way to handle these things sometimes, as ignorance is bliss.

Spaced Out :: Indubes Drops ‘A Pimp Named Slick Back’

a1704804225_10

There’s a new wave of heads coming up in Austin, and Indubes is one of those starting to make moves towards separation from the pack.  His latest project, A Pimp Named Slick Back, is a collection of spacey, dubby beats (with the occasional flow thrown in just to keep folks guessing).  The result is a short but sweet attack on the senses.  Considering this is a name your price project, you’d be hard-pressed to find a reason not to essentially pay your time to grab it and add it to your rotation.

Celebration Days :: The PNTHN’s Video Recap Of ‘[from disorder…]’ Release Party

Shout out to The PNTHN for all that they have accomplished in 2017.  The year has found the crew exploring their dynamic via music videos, live performances, and recently, the release of [from disorder…].  This release was recently celebrated at The Good Stuff Community Store in San Marcos, and a brief (but vivid) video of the event was captured by @kingChu__ & @camo_15.  Enjoy, and keep your eyes/ears open for more goodness from the crew.

Making Moves :: Sertified Is ‘On The Go’ In New Music Video

Sertified is right back at it with another solid track and video.  He’s been making a solid bit of noise the last couple of years, and On The Go finds him doing what he does best : living the fullest life that he can despite whatever energy is in his vicinity.  The track is smooth, the lyrics are honest, and the video brings nothing but smiles and motivation to those checking it out.  Props to Sertified for another positive notch in the belt, and here’s to more of that quality good stuff in the future.

Big Pictures :: Tone Royal’s Amazing ‘Late’ Music Video Now Streaming

If it’s not common knowledge by now that movie references are my soft spot, it should be apparently so in the wake of this share.  Tone Royal, based out of San Antonio, decided to go ahead and blow my mind with the release of his music video for Late.  The first single from the upcoming EP of the same name, Tone‘s video goes out of it’s way to immerse us up to our eyeballs in both famous and obscure movie reference interactions.  The animation hearkens back to the transition period between Cartoon Network and Adult Swim, and the choices are pitch perfect.  It goes without question that the song is a banger as well, making all of the elements hold one another up in a beautiful bit of harmony.  This one comes highly recommended, so definitely hit those like, share and subscribe buttons!

Permanent Vacation :: ChurchCough And Nathan Bailey Combine Forces For ‘Off’

When ConductHer and NonsenseSpence first joined up to form ChurchCough, I was immediately interested in their approach and aesthetic… it reminded me of the most free spirited aspects of bands like Yacht and Hot Chip.  The beats are tight and driving, but the vocals are sparse and stream of consciousness.    Their debut video, Creek, was a nice thunderclap in the distance… a sense that a storm was coming.  For Off, the crew reconnected with Nathan Bailey, and this time you’re dropped right into the eye of the hurricane of creativity.  The video is driven by a handful of strong images, immaculate lighting and a sense of purpose that comes off as a statement piece.  If this is an indication of what’s to come for ChurchCough, I’m doubling down on my seat for this ride.

Outlaw Style :: Dead Horse Creek Unleashes ‘1876: The Ballad Of Wolfe Burton’

a3262219227_10

Anybody can grab a guitar, bass, drums and some friends and start a rock band.  A chosen few are smart enough to lock into a niche-songwriting style and maximize it for what it’s worth.  And then there are the small, wonderful, unique handful such as Dead Horse Creek who take it to the fullest extent possible… dedicated characters, authentic dress, and visual cues that add to the entire mystique.  Dead Horse Creek is the type of outfit I always imagined tear-assing through a Sam Peckinpaugh movie, leaving bullet holes and fans everywhere they go.

The guys tap directly into that fantasy with the release of 1876: The Ballad of Wolfe Burton.  The band plays the outlaw outfit The Bloody Higgins Boys, and with the help of title character Wolfe Burton, they bust out of jail and raise all kinds of hell.  This album is one I’ve been waiting for since I first discovered these guys, and it’s nice to have something to share with folks when I tell them about how awesome Dead Horse Creek is.  Hopefully, this is the first of many wonderful releases.

Modern Living :: Attic Ted And Jeffrey Garcia Collaborate For ‘Down On The Farm’ Music Video

When Attic Ted and Jeffrey Garcia collaborate, wonderful things happen.  Way back in 1919, How Ya Gonna Keep Em Down On The Farm was penned, and nearly a century later, it is still relevant, so leave it to Attic Ted to include his version on his latest release, Parade Dust Mischief.  Enter Jeffrey Garcia, who is known for his uncanny ability to put memorable visuals to great music, and he does not disappoint for this endeavor.  Sprinkle in some familiar faces and we’ve got another wonderful piece of Texas art to be proud of.  Give it a like, give it a share, and support independent music!

Self Respect :: Cha’Keeta B And Nubia Emmon Show ‘2 Can Play That Game’

Sometimes, moving on is about holding on to the good while separating yourself from the bad.  Other times, moving on is about taking a stand for yourself, setting a bar for where your standards will lie, and displaying integrity.  Cha’Keeta B and Nubia Emmon, with the help of Robgfilm.com, bring the second circumstance to life perfectly in the music video for Cha’Keeta B‘s latest single, 2 Can Play That Game.  The video is full of wonderful touches, such as the Petty Squad title card and the ever-looming presence of NBA 2k in the room where relationship drama is played out at the maximum level.  Complete productions like this definitely show that the Texas music scene is legitimate on the independent level.  Here’s to hoping more good comes from Cha’Keeta B and her camp, because I will definitely continue to pay attention.
