Deep REST :: Uncovering ‘RESTLESS ARTFORM – A Graffiti Doc About An Austin TX Writer’

The city of Austin, although at times in a contentious matter, has long supported hip hop and all of its cultural elements.  DJs have thrived in the city, MCs are plentiful and range in styles, and BBoy crews have a safe haven in BBoy City (approaching 25 years of existence).  Like most every major city, however, its relationship with Graffiti is a complex one.  A few years ago, Egosheriff Films explored this complex dynamic via RESTLESS ARTFORM – A doc about an Austin TX writer.  The focus lies on REST, an Austin writer with an interesting past, and plenty of unique (but understandable) viewpoints about how he expresses himself among the madness that is day to day life down here in Weird City.  This documentary is very well made (the identity hiding animations are hilarious), and definitely deserves a focus.

Shreddin’ Texas :: Old Man Skateboards’ Daily Skate Sessions Hit Texas

Recently, Old Man Skateboards took to the road for a return trip to Texas, his former stomping grounds.  Since the inception of Old Man Skateboards, we have since growth in terms of board confidence and skill set.  This video, maybe due to the fact that he’s home again, shows some wonderful growth.. longer manuals, boardslides, 50-50 grind attempts, and even some transition skating into bowls, hips and so on.  My man even took a couple of decent spills and got right back up.  Inspiring stuff, for real.

Temple Work :: Anastasia Practicing ‘Kale & Yoga’

Austin-based emcee Anastasia (FKA Anya) is a picture perfect example of positive growth.  She was already fresh out the gate, but after making an introductory push to the greater Austin music scene the past few years, she took a brief moment to reflect and redirect.  The result is a mentally and spiritually stronger artist, who seems to be both enjoying the ride and focused enough to control the direction it leads.  More power to you, and here’s to great things in your future.

Two Lovers :: Dream-Atomic Productions Releases ‘Lampchop’

Another classic from Jeffrey Garcia and Dream-Atomic Productions.  Lambchop is the story of two lovers (although not in love with one another) and their respective journeys dealing with the way love guides them through life.  This marks Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice‘s first time in a starring role!  Enjoy, share, subscribe to Jeffy’s Playhouse on YouTube and like/comment on Lambchop.

Looking Back :: Reminiscing On The Galv Slab

I’ve only had the pleasure of playing the homie EVAK‘s house shows in the Texas gulf coast area a couple of times, but one think that is clear from the moment you get there is that skate culture is a permanent fixture.  This video finds Conner SmithTaylor Bray5 Star and Ivan Lavigne (with a little help from Wolf Pat) reminiscing on their homemade slice of awesome known as the Galv Slab.  Dig it, and don’t forget to show love to those local creations you and your friends dedicated significant chunks of your life to.

Good Times :: The Triggermen Show ‘Party Pro’ To The World

Everybody who knows anything knows how The Triggermen get down.  Now, after a very long visual hiatus, the recent release of Live Wire has come part in parcel with a new set of visual promotions.  The first music video is the extremely catchy Party Pro, and the video does a wonderful job of displaying the crew’s live show prowess and their sense of humor.  It’s definitely one to remember, and worth multiple viewings.  Dig it and share it, then dig it again!

Common Ground :: Joey Alpha Celebrates That ‘It All Makes Sense Now’

Joey Alpha, one half of the vocals for Slop Muskt, is a good-hearted man.  If the lead single from his upcoming project Tales From A Drifter, the beautiful meditation on equality titled It All Makes Sense Now, is any indication of what’s to come, we will soon all have audio proof of his good nature.  The track is a reflection on making attempts to be inclusive with those of all races, colors and creeds.  Throw in the fact that the dynamite team behind DVZN Media spent some time with Joey Alpha in downtown Austin capturing performance footage and handing out snowcones to those willing to dance, and you’ve got yourself a memorable music video.  Now, more than ever, is when we need messages of this kind, so please be sure to share this one with your friends, and especially with those you may not see eye to eye with.

Shadow Dancing :: NGHT HCKLRS ’15 Min Facelift’ Will Blow Your Mind

Recently, I was booked to DJ a set for Angers Week in Austin via the OVRLD blog.  Several bands played that night, and all were good, but one band really caught me off guard in the best way possible.  I had seen the guys from NGHT HCKLRS throughout the night, but once they hit the staged, donned their get-up, and got to work, it was a whole new ballgame.  This YouTube video best captures the experience… dig it and share it.

Chance Advancement :: OMS Daily Skate Vlog Captures A Kickflip

The Old Man Skateboards social media presence is all about dedication, application, and eventual advancements in your daily progression.  Recently, while on a drive through New Mexico, the spirit was strong enough to require a setup on the side of the highway to practice stationary kickflips.  Lo and behold, Jansen‘s first kick flip (and the impending celebration) were caught on camera for all of us to enjoy.  Skate (or do whatever you love) every day.

The almighty NFL Films spent some time with the Unicycle Football League of San MarcosTexas last season.  They interviewed many of the players, including creator Larry Gunn, the UniBrawdz, and even the mouth of the south himself, Field Marshall Bradley.  They got footage of the Stupor Bowl, and a few other gatherings.  The result is a beautiful presentation of how wonderful the process of a small idea turning into a vital part of a community’s culture can be.  Cheers to all involved.  Click on the picture to view, or simply click here.  The league is also looking for a new home… click here to help.
