Making Waves :: Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice Enters NPR Tiny Desk Concert Contest

NPR announced that there were record breaking numbers of entrants into their annual Tiny Desk Concert Contest for 2017.  After seeing the homeboy Da’Shade Moonbeam throw his hat in the ring, and knowing that this year will be the first of a major transition into the visual realm, I knew it would be foolish to miss this opportunity.  Therefore, Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice is now officially entered into the contest as well!  Check out my submission video for Choke from Permanent Record (beat by Lo Phi), and please give it a like, leave it a comment, and encourage others to do the same!  And if you haven’t already, be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel for what should be an exciting 2017 filled with visual content…

Universal Language :: Dum Spiro Connect Worldwide With ‘Hors Chant’

a1682577021_10

Many years ago, during the days of The Word AssociationExperience and Binary Audio Misfits, I made a connection with the highly driven, super talented and insanely humble Francisco Esteves.  Although we did not speak the same language, we understood one another enough to form a base connection, and music has since then propelled that connection into places I never expected.

From the ashes of Binary Audio Misfits arose the label We Are Disco Doom Revenge, and an effort to keep like-minded and forward thinking artists connected and collaborating.  When Zedrine and Francisco reached out to me to be a part of the Dum Spiro upcoming album, I was very excited, to say the least.  Months later, Hors chant has hit the music scene, and as impartially as I can say it, this is quite the entertaining and engrossing album.  I knew it would be good… I did not know it would be this good.  I am honored to have been a part of this, and hopeful that you all will give it a listen and some support… next time you’re on your favorite streaming service or download app, give it a look up and a listen.

That’s Entertainment :: SIP SIP Get Wild For ‘Rippin In The Kitchen’

Here we are, 4 days into 2017, and I’m pretty sure we have a strong contender for video of the year.  SIP SIP got together with my homeboy Click-Clack for a highly entertaining song titled Rippin in the Kitchen, and this video is like a truncated version of an 80s movie in all of the best ways possible.  To describe this video is to do it a disservice.  This is must watch material.  Hoping we see more and more quality work from all parties involved in this.

Reflection Time :: Recognition Via An Invitation, Or OVRLD.COM’s Best Of 2016

best-of-austin-2016

The awesome guys and gals at OVRLD.com have always been wonderful and supportive people, and they have gone out of their way on numerous occasions to shine alight on the work of Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice.  Earlier this month, however, Morgan gave me a compliment he may or may not have even realized he was giving me by inviting me to take part in OVRLD‘s spin on the end of year list, Our Austin Music Friends Picks For Best of 2016.  While explicitly stating these were the music friends, one thing that the guys at the OVRLD blog have always hammered in to me is that they love my blog over here, and Morgan never lets me forget that I have built up quite a bit of blogging clout I may not even realize I have.

Cut to yesterday, when the article drops.  There I am, top placement on the list, setting the tone for the entire article.  Then I began to notice other folks reaffirming choices I made on my list, almost automatically.  Then the props for the Butcher Bear and BoomBaptist collaboration video I did started rolling in.  THEN the thank you’s begin to roll in via social media for the local choices I made.  Yesterday was truly a gratifying day, and I owe it all to Morgan and the folks at OVRLD for finally allowing me to see what’s been in front of me the entire time.

Next Episode :: Episode 002 of ‘Welcome To Your Doom’ Now Available

That’s right y’all, we’re going back to back.  Welcome To Your Doom will more than likely not be a weekly web series, but this initial round of inspiration has me on excessive output mode.  Therefore, the (iN)Sect Records episode of Welcome To Your Doom went into production mode and is now ready for enjoyment by the masses.

Next Episode :: Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice Presents ‘Welcome To Your Doom’

After several months of brainstorming and planning, I am proud to announce my latest creative venture.  Welcome To Your Doom is a webseries I am creating/curating, and it will be an attempt to move my tastemaker status into the YouTube realm.  Each episode will focus on a different topic… some specific to my hometown of Austin, and some specific to people/places/practices I have been a part of over the years.  Episode 001 is a focus on the street art of Austin, with pieces I have found online focusing on the Hope GalleryJason EMike Johnston and REST.  Hopefully this series will continue to grow, and everyone out there will allow me to guide them through my influences and experiences.  Thank you in advance.

Two Lovers :: Dream-Atomic Productions Releases ‘Lampchop’

Another classic from Jeffrey Garcia and Dream-Atomic Productions.  Lambchop is the story of two lovers (although not in love with one another) and their respective journeys dealing with the way love guides them through life.  This marks Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice‘s first time in a starring role!  Enjoy, share, subscribe to Jeffy’s Playhouse on YouTube and like/comment on Lambchop.

Trill Talk :: ‘They Wrong (Bruh)’ By @Mirage512

Mirage‘s journey through 2016 of bringing us the audio-visual project #TheAmeliorationCollection has been a wonderful journey to witness.  They Wrong (Bruh) marks my second involvement in the editing process, and this song is straight up hot flames.  Arson Optics comes through with a banger on production, and Mirage drops knowledage the only way he knows how.  Highly recommended viewing.

Hollywood Swingin’ :: Jeffrey Garcia’s ‘Terrence’ Now Available on YouTube

2016 has been a big year for me on the visual front.  The music video and documentary output has been beautiful, and I recently even dusted off my acting chops for a short film by local filmmaker Jeffrey Garcia.  His latest project, Terrence, is the story of a small-time ventriloquist with big dreams (played by San Marcos legend Furly Travis), and the struggles he goes through from day to day.  Highly entertaining.. please check it out and share it around!
