Friday the 13th :: Exploded Drawing XI

(from the digital Facebook desk of Exploded Drawing)

A monthly event in Austin for electronic music composers, sound collectors, and beat makers to perform their work in a comfortable atmosphere with a good sound system. Originality is encouraged and will be cherished.

Exploded Drawing: A night of electronic composers, sound collectors. and beat makers. Six 20 minute sets from six different musicians performing their own musical creations using whatever tools they like. 5$ donation helps us provide a good sound system, adult beverages, and an earful of brand new sounds.
In case you’re wondering, the name Exploded Drawing is a reference to a similar beat night that existed in LA called Sketchbook. In it’s hay day, Sketchbook, organized by ‘Dublab-Rat’ Kutmah, had many noteworthy beat makers come through including Prefuse 73, Madlib, Take, Ras G, Flying Lotus, J-Dilla, Daedelus and many more. That night helped to spawn the now world-famous weekly event in LA known as The Low End Theory. We’re hoping to continue that creative, forward thinking, perspective that made Sketchbook and The Low End Theory such a wonderful, unusual success.

Exploded Drawing XI features performances from :

Computer Jay (Los Angeles/Stones Throw Records)
Lo Phi (Austin)
Doldrums (Toronto)
Chief The Doomsday Device (Austin/San Marcos)
Anna Love (Austin)
Selva Oscura (Austin)

Butcher Bear plays records at 9pm, Live Sets start at 10

Hosted by soundfounder and Butcher Bear

Hope to see everyone out there!

Support Local/Indie :: Free EP Download from White Dress

Back when the JumpUp! Power Hour was still alive, I was given the opportunity to capture many performers in a very intimate, stripped down environment.  One of the bands that flat out excelled in blowing my mind was Austin’s White Dress.  The band has decided to begin the new year with a free EP download, and I highly recommend copping it.  Perfect late night music for introspection, unwinding, or chilling with the lady friend.

Cory Kendrix :: “Deep Thoughts” Visualized

Straight from the LNS CREW comes Cory Kendrix with a nice piece of work for 2012… “Deep Thoughts” is an introspective song with a very smooth track behind it… reminiscent of when hip-hop had some substance.

Written by Cory Kendrix, produced by David Escamilla Jr., and put together by Et Tat Too for Grind Life Films, here’s “Deep Thoughts”:

Mofoz Visualz :: Fave Photos of 2011

2011 was a big year for many of my friends, and Marc Mofoz was definitely on that list… with big SXSX and Austin Art Crawl weeks, road time with Phranchyze , Snoop Dogg and Gary Clark Jr., plus his yearly production of art, it’d be enough to just take his word for a fun year.  Luckily, Mofoz is a man of vision, both theoretically and literally.  Therefore, he has the pictures to prove that his 2011 was one for the books.  Enjoy a few of the pics, click on one for more.

Audio Visual Madness :: Milli Mars presents “The Alarm”

Facebook and the many other social networks out there are always a great source for new local and underground music.  The friendship I have built with my peers over the years has led to some great musical discoveries, and yesterday was no exception.

Courtesy of my man Ocky GoodSounds comes a recommendation from my southern IH35 neighbor San Antonio.  Up to this point, I wasn’t familiar with Milli Mars, but you better believe he’s on the radar now… don’t sleep.

Guest Spot Action :: “Cameo Jokes” by Homeroom

“Don’t hide that you’re mad that your records won’t sell : It’s pretty obvious why your lymph-nodes swell…”

“I saw ’em in the back of the room taking notes : and then I hit ’em with cameo jokes…”

“Pocket aces, more than two faces : casual acquaintance on a first name basis with the : Yin and yang, the one man gang : hungry like the wolf working with a new fang…”

Again And Again :: Cookin’ with Lo-Phi

You know how it goes… some people put in so much work, that just as you’re done giving them props about one project, another project comes down the chute.  Lo-Phi is gearing himself up for a busy 2012.

JOIN THE STUDIO . COM
LNS & Exploded Drawing team member Lo-Phi enjoys the finer things in life. Good music, good vibes and, most of all, good food to go along with it. Watch him whip up some tamales alongside sick beats.

Lo-Phi’s full length debut on (iN)Sect Records out January 13th!
