Faded Loyalty :: Cha’keeta B and Lakrea Drop Video For ‘In My Bag’

Cha’keeta B has been shooting shots for years, and in my opinion, she hasn’t missed yet.  This go ’round, she reached out to Lakrea for a brief but powerful rumination on how jealously can shift the intentions and actions of others titled In My Bag.  As with most all of the production Cha’keeta selects, this one is catchy and has plenty of bounce, which keeps her already inspired and high energy flow at a level that darts and weaves through the bassline and hi-hats.  As for lyrical content, you already know that if it’s coming from Cha’keeta B it’s going to be real talk, and Lakrea helps punctuate the matter with a memorable and catchy hook assist.  This one is rapidly approaching a four-digit view count, so if you want to help this clip achieve virality, go give it some spins, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for others to do the same!

Divine Mathematics :: Mad1ne And Henry Kool McKool Dissect ‘The Equation’

For an artist like Mad1ne, the recipe for dynamic and entertaining hip-hop is simple : clever and insightful lyrics delivered with supreme confidence on top of groove-inducing, new school throwback production.  This formula is so strong for him, in fact, that it seems as if his latest single, the Henry Kool McKool-produced The Equation, is a rumination on these very aspects of creation.  The tempo is deceptively upbeat given the cool, calm and collected nature in which the science is dropped, and the horn-infused track presented by McKool provides the perfect backdrop that allows the lyrics to breathe free and easy.  Definitely check out the track, cop it if you can, and share it regardless!

Recovery Raps :: CHASEISNORML Lets The World Know He’s ‘OKAY’

It’s been a minute since the homie now known as CHASEISNORML has tossed his hat into the hip-hop ring, but it appears that his absence may have done his some personal good.  His new single and video, the brooding and introspective OKAY, seems to be a bit of a confessional about his ascension from deep lows to his current status in life, all over a dark but vibey beat by Thurty Fiive (my apologies if this is a miscredit).  With a little help from videographer Roy Burkhart III and editor ViperHyperCHASEISNORML has blessed us with a set of visuals that help capture the vibe of where his head is currently at.  Check out the video, leave a like and a comment if it moves you, and share it around to run those numbers up!

Dedication Game :: HeirMAX Celebrates MF Doom’s Legacy With ‘MAX DOOM Mixtape’

Hip-hop is still suffering from the loss of MF Doom, one of the most prolific producers and celebrated lyricists to ever represent the culture.  Many people have gone the route of making dedications in honor of MF Doom, and the Fort Worth-based MC known as heirMAX is among those people with his recent mixtape release MAX DOOM Mixtape.  The brief 3-song offering features known instrumentals from MF Doom and Madlib with new lyrics provided by heirMAX.  If you’re up for a bittersweet trip down memory lane, then this one is definitely for you… check it out, download it (and donate if you can), and share it around for all who loved MF Doom to enjoy.

Proper Praise :: Riders Against The Storm (RAS) Drop Video For ‘Flowers For The Living’

The adage of ‘give me my flowers while I can smell them’ has become an ethos that is gaining rapid popularity, as many people often find themselves regretful when it becomes too late to give someone the praise that they deserve.  It is quite possible that this new cultural awareness may get a boost in the form of Flowers for the Living, a song as self-explanatory as it is catchy.  Chaka and Qi’Dada bar up the Ayma-produced track (as they are known to do) while Clarence James shines on the hook, and thanks to director @JustinHCinema, the track is given a colorful and vibrant visual counterpart full of the life that it celebrates celebrating.  It may be a little early for a summer jam, but if this track ends up having some legs, it’ll definitely serve as a proper candidate due to its immense amount of feel good vibes.

Strange Fun :: Urban Heat Channels Talking Heads Energy With ‘A Simple Love Song’

Jonathan K. Horstmann, the lead guitarist and singer for the dynamic group Urban Heat, is a man of many looks when it comes to artistic expressions.  Urban Heat has been an outlet for his more melodic, pop-sensibility songs, and while quality and style have been present since day one, something must have been in the air during the recording and video production of A Simple Love Song.  To call it a variance on a style established by Talking Heads is to do an injustice to the song and video, but the influence is certainly there and undeniable.  The song is immediately catchy, with the chorus of “I wish I could write you a simple love song, but the world keeps falling apart” standing as both a testimonial observation to our times and the catchiest of earworms to emerge in 2021.  Definitely check out the video, give it a like and leave a comment, and spread it around so it can be the next viral video sensation!

Delicious Vinyl :: BoomBaptist Releases Final ‘Komfort Food’ Single

BoomBaptist is a season veteran at beatflips, but he didn’t have to snap on Komfort Food the way he did… the way he chops up a bit of the familiar, mixes it with a little original and then swings it all to 11 is smoother than the glaze on a Krispy Kreme donut, with the layered and various vocal samples sticking out like sprinkles.  If the idea of this single was to get people excited for the release of the full-length project, then consider this one mission : accomplished.  Keep your eyes and ears open for the eventual drop of the entire project, and swipe this one up in the meantime!

Self Props :: Progeny Taps Robust For ‘Misunderstood’

Based on early indications from the music-making homies, 2021 seems to be all about knowledge of and care for self.  With the world seeming like an aggressive influence on a near daily basis, it is important that we as individuals learn to find strength and confidence from within, and this is demonstrated and displayed perfectly by Robust over a banger of a Progeny beat.  If you need a little sonic pick-me-up during any rough patches you may encounter, this is definitely a track to keep in mind.  Dig it and dig it good, download it if you can afford to donate a buck, and share it around for others to enjoy!

Protecting Legacy :: DotdotDotdotDotdot Gets Heavy On ‘Thyme And The Space Oddity’

The homie DotdotDotdotDotdot is always good for compelling, thought-provoking music, and it appears that he has something major in store for listeners in the near future.  In order to set up this upcoming release, he recently dropped the single Thyme and The Space Oddity, a collaboration with CecilBDDotDotdotDotdotDotdot uses the epic beat as a platform to discuss the importance of legacy, being self-driven and not being deterred by criticism from peers and critics (while giving hints about how hearing them is still a good practice).  DotdotDotdotDotdot has always been a calculated cat, and he has clued me in to the bigger picture, so I am very much excited to see how it all develops.  While the rest of you wait, go find this latest track on your favorite streaming service or digital storefront, and support your local creatives!
