Insane Creations :: Astrokeyy Drops Gripping Visual For ‘The Hated Freestyle’

As usual, I found myself combing through the I Support ATX Hip Hop. Do You? group on Facebook, because I can always rely on finding something new and interesting to share, and today, as usual, it did not let me down.  I came across a YouTube video for Austin-based Astrokeyy with an ill thumbnail of his eyes whited out.  I’ve always been a sucker for a stark and arresting visual, so I clicked the link, and what I got was straightforward bars from the heart over a no-nonsense lowkey performance video that is enhanced by some subtle but wonderful AfterEffects work.  These definitely are not new or unique tricks used in the video, but they are definitely used well by Newhighfilmz for The Hated Freestyle.  Throw the video a like and a share, maybe even a comment, and keep your eyes open for more dopeness from all camps involved.

Cold Facts :: BLXPLTN Talks ‘FEMA’ Live At Swan Dive

Even in a country as rich in resources as North America, you run into disparity quite often.  With the recent slate of continued hurricanes that have hit the south and southeast, old patterns are emerging, and an errant foundation is gaining strength.  Almost a year ago, BLXPLTN took the time to point out an example of this by writing FEMA, an exposé on the level of help the poor are provided in the times that they need it the most.  This particular video is from a recent performance at Swan Dive in Austin, and was captured by Son and Son Productions.  This track can be purchased on BLXPLTN‘s Bandcamp page, and all proceeds go towards hurricane relief.

Standup Man :: Trae Crane + Lyrical Lemonade Drop ‘On My Own’ Video

My main man Click-Clack is constantly on point when it comes to knowing who is who and what’s what in the Austin hip-hop scene.  He recently threw out props to Austin-native Trae Crane‘s recent video for On My Own, and I instantly knew it was getting posted to the blog.  The song is catchy af, and the video (produced by Cole Bennett) is a standout without being overly flashy.  Chicago-based Lyrical Lemonade has gotten behind this piece, and the numbers show it… quality music, pushed properly, can make an impact.  Share it, like it, and keep supporting our scene(s)!

Hit Parade :: The Teeta Drops Another Stunning Visual With ‘Mood Swings’

Consistency is an important yet often overlooked trait when it comes to building your brand.  In hip hop, being consistently dope is one surefire way to set yourself ahead of the rest.  If there’s one cat in Austin that is 100% on the consistently dope list, it’s The Teeta.  Not only does he drop standout music that most others emulate with minimal success, but when he puts video to these tunes, he takes things to a completely new level.  Mood Swings is no exception, bringing all of the trademarks you’d expect for a video from The Teeta : trippy aesthetic, hip hop tropes turned slightly on their ear, and plenty of swag without giving a damn who notices.  The run has been legendary, and here’s to hoping it continues trending upward.

You already know what it is when it comes to the mad genius Notes Floats.  If there were a contest for hardest working man in Austin hip-hop, Notes Floats would hands down be a finalist.  His latest project, LIGHTNING BUTTER, is another sure shot in a catalog full of standout work.  Dude has the touch on the beats and the lyrics, and his covers are either extremely compelling or hilarious.  Cop this one, and keep your eyes and ears open, because word on the street is that he’s already in the studio working on a full length.

Inner Visions :: Ryan Darbonne And Company Embark Upon ‘I AM TX’

Local musician and actor Ryan Darbonne, in light of experiences growing up in Austin and experiences within the Austin culture as a young adult, felt inspired to capture that experience into something he could share.  After sharing his script with OVRLD creator Morgan Day, the two felt that the idea needed to become a reality.  After enlisting the help of cinematographer Mariana Gonzalez, the gears began to turn for I AM TX.  Ryan reached out to Audrey Campbell of Pleasure VenomJonathan Horstmann of BLXPTN and Greg Williams, better known as Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice, and boom, a cast was born.

I AM TX is now in the crowdfunding stage, and the Indiegogo Campaign is up and running.  If you would like to help turn this vision into a reality, there are many things you can do.  Share the campaign with your friends, whether they’re in Austin, in Texas, or anywhere else in the world.  If you feel inspired, go ahead and donate, as there are many levels with many excellent perks available.  This vision will happen, but every bit of support that is garnered will improve the vision.  We thank you in advance.

Productive Procrastination :: Scuare Resurfaces ‘Off Days Vol. I’

a3439646198_10

During the days that Soundcloud was cool, Austin-based MC Scuare took it upon himself to go 18 weeks, one song a week.  Like most, he has moved on from Soundcloud, but that did not make those creations any less relevant.  After realizing that most people had no access to the lion’s share of that material, a decision was made to compile all of the songs into the project Off Days Vol. I.  It’s a free download, so why would you not cop it?  Your only obligation would be to tell a friend to do the same, and believe me, your ears will thank you for it.

Placebo Effect :: Sugar Pill Debuts With ‘Monsters’

a2635329560_10

Quite often, the best introduction is a direct one.  Let folks know what you’re about, speak with confidence, keep it short and sweet.  If that’s the case, then consider yourselves introduced to Sugar Pill.  A four-piece rock outfit based out of Austin, the group finds themselves preparing for the release of their debut EP Out of the Gate with the release of the single Monsters.  Are they talking symbolic or literal monsters?  I guess that’s for them to know, and us to decipher.  Here’s to more music from Sugar Pill, and hopefully in the near future.

Calm Maturation :: Branden Rex Drops ‘B&W Hipster’

From the digital desk of Branden Rex :

‘Originally from Milwaukee, WI Branden Rex moved to Austin, TX to pursue his musical career 7 years ago.  While in the past 3 he has rerouted himself into the direction of fashion and business after co-founding an art/music company, Calm Child Lifestyles, the last year of his life has been spent producing his next endeavor.  A music/visual project entitled B&W Hipster has been the result.  With an array of audio tracks accompanied by cinematic visuals, Rex has mastered a way to brighten up the inevitably dark reality of his world.  Not only has he given you something to listen to and see, but you’ve been given something to feel.’

I am looking forward to more of the visuals for sure, as 50¢ Wings was a top notch music video in a year full of stellar Austin-based music videos.  Show some support, share, like the work, and stay tuned for more.

Bonus Beats :: Corduroi Drops A Pair Of Unreleased Songs

a0704465392_10

Sometimes, gold can be found in what was left behind.  Corduroi, one of the more prolific Austin-based beatsmiths, recently dropped a pair of songs that were left off of his last 2 releases, but in tandem, they work very well together.  Rainbow Climber is a lively, upbeat track that seems to pull the listener in tow with it’s non-stop movement.  Cicada’s Song (my personal favorite of the two), has more of a hide and seek feel to it, like chasing shadows, or feeling like someone has just turned a corner out of your view as you follow them.  Both tracks are high quality, and I am happy they are seeing the light of day.  Check them out, share them, and support local art!
