Mofoz Visualz’ Texas Video Picks of the Week

More than likely, if you’ve been to an Austin area hip-hop show in the past 5-8 years, you’ve seen the artwork or been in the presence of the incomparable Marc Mofoz.  Mofoz probably has his finger on the local pulse more so than any other artist in the central Texas area.  While surfing Facebook, I found a pair of video recommendations from Mofoz that are worth sharing with all of you… enjoy these videos from The League of Extraordinary G’z (RIP Esbe the 6th St. Bully) and Phranchyze 1.

Spotlight on Crews : (RAS) Riders Against the Storm

Two souls…two healers…two emcees…two lovers…two souls… ON A MISSION!

A few months back, I had the pleasure of playing a show/birthday party in Austin with several acts, DJs and graf artists.  There was a wide variety of music, and the night was memorable, but one group left a lasting impression, and that group was (RAS) Riders Against The Storm.

Formed by husband and wife team Jbro and Tiger Lily, this crew is as much a movement as it is a hip-hop group.  The two exude social awareness, family values and knowledge of self so effortlessly, yet efficiently, that you are permanently changed by experiencing them.  The music is both ahead of it’s time and a callback to the golden age.  The stage show is on the money… visually and emotionally stimulating.

There are many things currently happening within the world of (RAS).  Both of their albums are currently free on their BandCamp site.  The website currently host the I AM TROY DAVIS blog series, a tribute to the life and death of Troy Davis, through the eyes and experience of another individual.  Their Willis and Tameka skits have been recently used to educate about the Prison Industrial Complex :

Please take the time to keep (RAS) on your radar… big things are in store from this crew, and they deserve all of it.

Rhymesayers VS Def Jux Soundclash :: The Good Life

This video is from the 9-11 edition of The Good Life (The Eastern, Austin).  I did a Stones Throw DJ set as the opener, and a group of dope DJs (DJ Charlie, Casey Cuts, S.T.A.T.I.K. and Sissy Ross) did a soundclash battle of Rhymesayers vs. Def Jux.  Jason Ice threw in the live art assist.  Dopeness.

Check Facebook, or whatever social networking site you use, for future Good Life events in Austin… or hell, check back here, because I’ll definitely make it known.

Spotlight on Design : MOFOZ Visualz

From the digital desk of MOFOZ Visualz:

Mofoz is an Austin based company with fam and members everywhere, look to your left…now look to your right…look in a mirror, some may even be yourselves. Mofoz was the name and crew set forth from a group of friends to conceptualize, collaborate and then finally to produce works of progressive imagination and creativity.

The company has been founded on dedication to and promotion of contemporary fashion, art, music, art, and design.

———————————————-

I have worked with my man MOFOZ for ages now… from park jams to art on the sides of businesses, his influence is felt more than the average person realizes.  A forerunner in the customized kicks game, his designs are definitely noticed.  It doesn’t hurt to have a gifted MC like Phranchyze backing up your work and giving it even more credibility.

Recently, MOFOZ put out a list of 10 Texas Hip Hop Projects To Share… definitely check that out and get hip to what’s going on in the underground hip-hop scene around these parts.

Take some time to visit mofozvisualz.com, and explore a truly creative world… maybe even find out how you can be down.

Seperation

I’ve been digging through LOTS of old footage lately.  Lots of memories.  I found a performance of DKC from the late 90s… a Kwanzaa celebration thrown by The Nation of Islam.  It was refreshing to see where things all started again… some of the crew is no longer with us anymore (RIP GiGi), and some of the crew has moved on and lost touch with one another.  It seems like we were destined to follow in the words of NOOK from so long ago…

“You made a move unanticipated, but that’s what happens when you make that seperation… Good things change.”

There have definitely been some unanticipated moves made in my music career… some by me, some done by others that effected me.  Regardless of what has happened in the past, I am glad that I am here today, and I am able to share my thoughts and feelings about my experiences on this crazy planet with the rest of you out there, whether it be via music, art, or this website.

I appreciate all of the support from all of my friends, worldwide.  There is not a day that goes by that I don’t think about each and everyone of you.  Joni Mitchell “sees something of herself in everyone, just at this moment in the world”.  Feist can feel it all.  I believe I fall somewhere in-between… we’re all sharing this experience, my friends.

See you, space cowboy.
