Fever Dreaming :: Branden Rex’s ’50¢ Wings’ Visual Amazes

For the past few months, Branden Rex has been concocting a new project.. audio elements, video elements, and so on.  For a while, he went crowdfunding in an attempt to get the final product to match the quality of his vision.  Unfortunately, the crowdfunding did not pan out and meet the initial expectations, but if 50¢ Wings is any indication of what the big picture will turn out to be, maybe that last step is not needed.  This video is a true piece of artwork.. wonderfully engaging premise, on point production and lyricism, breathtaking choreography and standout cinematography/editing make this visual an instant classic.  This one should be automatic share, like and subscribe bait, but in case you need a reminder, don’t forget to do so.

Self-Motivation :: Wallaby And Bobbes Drop ‘Moving Forward’ Visual

Props to Wallaby and Bobbes for always coming with quality beats and rhymes.  Moving Forward is a self-made effort all the way around, from song to video concept, and these guys are proving that they can get it done on their own.  Imagine what would happen if a label decided to invest in these cats?

Spread Love :: Chisme Drops In On Radio Concuss

Earlier this year, the homies Chisme out of San Antonio hit the road, and among their stops was Seattle.  While out there exploring, one of their stops was Radio Concuss, and the fellas blessed the station with a live performance that was wonderfully captured.  Check it… dynamite stuff.

Small World :: The VelociRapTour Hits Disneyland

Austin-based crew Space Camp Death Squad (Protextor and Secret Levels) recently embarked on the wonderfully named VelociRapTour, and as anyone who has ever been on tour knows, things get interesting and wild.  Luckily, the fellas decided to document what had to be one of the better stops, DisneyLand.  The result is a wonderfully entertaining video in the happiest place on Earth.  Props to the fellas for bringing some culture to the grounds.  Enjoy!

Full Circle :: DJ brimLo & Bavu Blakes Create ‘The Comeback Story’

a2100663194_10

From the digital desk of DJ brimLo :

“When DJ brimLo and Bavu Blakes are in the studio together Hip-Hop excellence has been assembled, two turntables and a microphone.  DJ brimLo trades his microphone for the role of the maestro on this project while Bavu provides us the narrative of The Comeback Story.  A good story starts with catastrophic tragedy, and that is the tone of Tick Tock.  The fall is scored in the ballad of Dead to Us.  The vocal stylings of CJ Edwards solidify the emotional foundation.  As we arrive on our title track, Comeback, the dynamic duo really flex their muscles.  Our wordsmith is in full stride as we all know “everybody loves a comeback,” he petitions to us on the Hip-Hop anthem.  Staying true a good narrative, the feeling of overcoming is followed by a lament for a time before the self-destruction.  Reggie Coby sets the tone of Yesterday with a properly penned hook and a swift sixteen.  In a true call and response fashion, TempestB closes the tune with the complimenting counter-chorus.  As a victory lap we get a repeat of the BIG Bright Future three piece ensemble of Bavu Blakes, DJ brimLo and Eric Levels on the closing song, Get Love.  Carefully broken into five significant segments, this EP effectively takes listeners through the emotional trek of a return to one’s better self.”

My two cents, this is definitely worth a listen and a share, and if you’ve got the funds, it’s worth copping.

Spotlight Time :: Obvious Propaganda’s Public Interrogation of Poolboi Blu

Beatsmith and DJ extraordinaire Delano Taylor (better known as Poolboi Blu), has been on a serious upswing these days.  He’s been booking mad gigs in central Texas, and from what I here, he’s priming some dope new music to unload on everyone over the course of the next few months.  Obvious Propaganda caught up with him for their Public Interrogation series at his recent Scratchouse set to talk about his upcoming future.  Check it out, and make sure to keep an ear out for more Poolboi Blu action.

Home Grown :: Mindz Of A Different Kind (MDK)’s ‘BORDERLINEZ’ EP Now Available

Bars, beats, culture and family would be key elements that describe Austin-based collective Mindz of a Different Kind (MDK).  After a prolific 2016, the crew is right back at it with an EP for spring 2017.  BORDERLINEZ finds the crew reaching out to non-Texas based producers, while at the same time turning the mirror inwards to reflect on their place in the grand scheme.  A pleasant surprise of a project that slipped right by me, I’m happy that I did discover it eventually.. better late than never.

Quality Time :: Protextor’s ‘Marks’ Video

15822681_1466025726759841_8323254956503007770_n

Protextor‘s Shift album has been a wellspring of creative videos (in addition to the wonderful music).  One of the videos that I have been wanting to share is Marks, but with its adult content, it has been a bit of a process determining the best way to share.  In the end, I have decided that clicking the picture is the best option, as it will take you to the extremely sensual and provocative video (directed by Protextor, featuring production from Mikulak).  Enjoy, and if you’re watching at work, keep an eye over your shoulder!

Block Philosophy :: ‘Trill Shit’ From Domincan Jay and S.Dot

You already know what it is when it’s League of Extraordinary G’z affiliated.  Domincan Jay has been killing it lately, and this go round he brings in S.Dot for the verbal assist, Eric Dingus for the track and Chino Chase for the visuals.  Trill Shit is good old fashion street talk from the blocks and back alleys.  Raw rap is where it’s at, and these cats definitely know where it’s at.

Topic Roulette :: …&More… Stop By ‘The Hot Conversation’ Podcast

OVRLD‘s The Hot Conversation podcast is quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite podcasts out there, local or otherwise.  The latest episode contains almost the perfect storm of ingredients and topics : Protextor and JRo (as per usual), Scuare and no1mportant (…&more…), and topics ranging from DVD rot to racism in the Star Wars universe to Star Trek color shirt significance to sexy Prince posters, and all kinds of fun stops in between.  This had me laughing so hard at work, I had to make sure to keep the laughs down.  Great stuff.
