Proper Praise :: Riders Against The Storm (RAS) Drop Video For ‘Flowers For The Living’

The adage of ‘give me my flowers while I can smell them’ has become an ethos that is gaining rapid popularity, as many people often find themselves regretful when it becomes too late to give someone the praise that they deserve.  It is quite possible that this new cultural awareness may get a boost in the form of Flowers for the Living, a song as self-explanatory as it is catchy.  Chaka and Qi’Dada bar up the Ayma-produced track (as they are known to do) while Clarence James shines on the hook, and thanks to director @JustinHCinema, the track is given a colorful and vibrant visual counterpart full of the life that it celebrates celebrating.  It may be a little early for a summer jam, but if this track ends up having some legs, it’ll definitely serve as a proper candidate due to its immense amount of feel good vibes.

Strange Fun :: Urban Heat Channels Talking Heads Energy With ‘A Simple Love Song’

Jonathan K. Horstmann, the lead guitarist and singer for the dynamic group Urban Heat, is a man of many looks when it comes to artistic expressions.  Urban Heat has been an outlet for his more melodic, pop-sensibility songs, and while quality and style have been present since day one, something must have been in the air during the recording and video production of A Simple Love Song.  To call it a variance on a style established by Talking Heads is to do an injustice to the song and video, but the influence is certainly there and undeniable.  The song is immediately catchy, with the chorus of “I wish I could write you a simple love song, but the world keeps falling apart” standing as both a testimonial observation to our times and the catchiest of earworms to emerge in 2021.  Definitely check out the video, give it a like and leave a comment, and spread it around so it can be the next viral video sensation!

Delicious Vinyl :: BoomBaptist Releases Final ‘Komfort Food’ Single

BoomBaptist is a season veteran at beatflips, but he didn’t have to snap on Komfort Food the way he did… the way he chops up a bit of the familiar, mixes it with a little original and then swings it all to 11 is smoother than the glaze on a Krispy Kreme donut, with the layered and various vocal samples sticking out like sprinkles.  If the idea of this single was to get people excited for the release of the full-length project, then consider this one mission : accomplished.  Keep your eyes and ears open for the eventual drop of the entire project, and swipe this one up in the meantime!

Self Props :: Progeny Taps Robust For ‘Misunderstood’

Based on early indications from the music-making homies, 2021 seems to be all about knowledge of and care for self.  With the world seeming like an aggressive influence on a near daily basis, it is important that we as individuals learn to find strength and confidence from within, and this is demonstrated and displayed perfectly by Robust over a banger of a Progeny beat.  If you need a little sonic pick-me-up during any rough patches you may encounter, this is definitely a track to keep in mind.  Dig it and dig it good, download it if you can afford to donate a buck, and share it around for others to enjoy!

Protecting Legacy :: DotdotDotdotDotdot Gets Heavy On ‘Thyme And The Space Oddity’

The homie DotdotDotdotDotdot is always good for compelling, thought-provoking music, and it appears that he has something major in store for listeners in the near future.  In order to set up this upcoming release, he recently dropped the single Thyme and The Space Oddity, a collaboration with CecilBDDotDotdotDotdotDotdot uses the epic beat as a platform to discuss the importance of legacy, being self-driven and not being deterred by criticism from peers and critics (while giving hints about how hearing them is still a good practice).  DotdotDotdotDotdot has always been a calculated cat, and he has clued me in to the bigger picture, so I am very much excited to see how it all develops.  While the rest of you wait, go find this latest track on your favorite streaming service or digital storefront, and support your local creatives!

Brief Introduction :: Protexter Teams Up With DK Thundah For ‘You Are In A Video Store (Theme Song)’

Despite 2020 being a stagnant or regressive year for many creatives, a small handful were able to make quick adjustments and continue to thrive, if not exceed expectations.  A perfect example of this is the formidable Protextor, who not only continued to record music, but managed to incubate and create a handful of larger scale productions.  One that brought attention to his sphere was the UltraLoop-based Twitch stream You Are in a Video Store, a weekly series hosted by Protextor and his cohost Stephanie where the two talk about a wide range of films.  After a successful run, including a few streaming awards, Protextor decided to up the ante by creating a theme song for his streaming show.  With the help of producer DK Thundah, who made a wonderfully epic beat that sounds like soundtrack fodder, Protextor flexes his film knowledge in rap form while giving viewers an idea of what they are in for when they tune in to the streams.  Dig this sonic slice of wonderful, and if it moves you, then definitely tune in to UltraLoop‘s Twitch channel on Tuesday nights for You Are in a Video Store.

Memory Lane :: Old Lane Returns With ‘More Like You’

After releasing their lead single, the lively and bouncy SanctuaryOld Lane is back at it for 2021 with their follow-up, the somber and reflective More like you.  This time around, the crew is slowing things down and dedicating their thoughtful lyrics to the loving memory of friends Sara Klee and Weston Tschannen.  The song is a nice contrast piece to their lead single, and is hopefully an indicator of the range and emotional depth on the horizon whenever Old Lane makes plans to drop a full length.  Until that time arrives, I will be content with enjoying this run of stellar singles… as for you, support if you can, and share this song around regardless!

Stranger Things :: Jack Henry Releases Music Video For ‘Stranger’

After testing the waters a month or so ago with the release of the stranger single, Jack Henry is back at it with a wonderfully strange music video.  Directed by Izzy Gazette, the video is a fun romp through visual silliness, a stark contrast against the very solid sound Henry has created for his era-shifting single.  That being said, the video itself is a fun one, and certainly worth checking out, so give it a view, leave a like and a comment if you dig it, and share it around so that Jack Henry can become a household name.
