Heavy Hearts :: Conwaythewhale Stops By KTSW 89.9 Studio C Sessions

Evolution is a natural part of dedicated creation.  Take Conwaythewhale, for example.  Upon their inception, the band was just a duo, albeit a powerful one.  Due to life circumstances and other creative obligations, what started as a raw musical confessional turned into a full-fledged power packed sonic testimonial, backed by a traditional full band.  What has not changed, however, is the cutting honesty and pure emotion of singer/songwriter Justin Conway.  The band stopped by KTSW 89.9‘s acclaimed Studio C Sessions recently, and their performance of John Locke was extremely touching, especially for those of us that have spent any time over the last 5 years or so in the San Marcos area.  Check it out, share it around, and be sure to give it a like and/or leave a comment.  Support college radio and local artists!

Viral Vibes :: Shelly Knicks Drops ‘Internet Rapper’ Video

Texas-based hip-hop artist Shelly Knicks packs a powerful punch in just under 2 minutes with his latest single, Internet Rapper.  The song is a wonderfully tongue-in-cheek look at how the internet can skew perspectives and inflate egos in subtle but powerful ways.  The video has a slightly off-kilter vibe to it with the color grading used, the computer style text and word bubbles, and even the meme-like behavior conveyed by Knicks and crew.  The video is a dope one for sure, so give it that like, share and comment treatment it deserves.

Gaining Momentum :: Old Man Skateboards (OMS) Drops ‘SINCE BIRTH’ Skate Part

Old Man Skateboards (OMS) creator Jansen Newcum has been using his passion for improving his skating skill as inspiration to better himself in other areas.  One of the areas that has been instantly noticeable is his skill as a filmer and an editor.  From innovating a one person, two board technique to becoming a legitimate filmer of other skaters, everything has been trending upwards.  Girl Skateboards recently announced a short film contest, and Jansen jumped at the opportunity.  With a little help from friends Miguel Marrufo and Chris Jones (plus a beat assist from himself), the old man at Old Man Skateboards created something to be truly proud of.  Like, share, leave a comment, and keep your eyes open for more dope content.

Creative Vision :: Deleigh Hermes In Focus At #GirlCrew Collective’s ‘Women Crush Wednesday’

As long as I’ve known Deleigh Hermes, I’ve known her to have a camera in hand and a smile on her face.  She has a natural curiosity about and attraction to the world around her, and many years with a camera has allowed her to cultivate the skills to capture what she sees and present it in her stunning photography.  #girlcrew collective recently sat down to talk with her about her work and her approach, and it may inspire you to chase your dreams when you take a look.

Air Time :: Manners Stops By KTSW 89.9 For Studio C Sessions

If there’s one thing that San Marcos will never run out of, it’s bands.  You can barely throw a rock without hitting someone that contains enough talent and personality to hold a crowd’s attention.  Manners is one of the groups that, over the past year or so, has stayed vigilant and managed to make a name for themselves.  Because KTSW 89.9 understands the importance of giving props where props are due, the band was recently invited to bless Studio C Sessions with a performance of their song Creeps.  Check it out, stay in tune to KTSW 89.9 and in line with what Manners are keeping up to, and always support local.

Brutal Honesty :: More Talk Time With DDotElles And Lit Up AV

You know what it is.  DDotElles, the Austin hip-hop version of The World’s Most Interesting Man, took some time to chop it up with Lit Up AV.  On this particular snippet, we get to hear my man speak on hip-hop as a culture, genre and subgenre classification, and the art of knowing you’re great while recognizing there’s a time and place for your particular style of expression.  Enjoy, like, share, and leave a comment!

Carpe Diem :: Pleasure Venom Release Music Video For ‘Seize’ To Instant Critical Acclaim

As a working, touring band trying to get ahead in an over-saturated game, there is a sense of accomplishment to be felt whenever you complete a creative endeavor such as a music video or an album.  At best, you hope that your blood, sweat and tears are recognized by a handful of appreciative folks.  Sometimes, as in the case of Pleasure Venom and their newest video/single Seize, you put in that work, and then a publication like Afropunk gives you props and posts about it, giving you a bit more incentive to keep doing your thing.  I’m happy for Pleasure Venom, as it’s always nice to see those that deserve recognition get it.  They’ve been on quite the tear closing out 2017 and leading into 2018, so give the video a like and a share, drop a comment, and subscribe to the channel for all of the latest Pleasure Venohaps.

Catching Up :: Wild Child ‘Expectations’ Music Video Cannot Be Overlooked

Recently, I shared Wild Child‘s newest video, the catchy Think It Over.  I realized soon after that I had overlooked the first single for Expectations, a title track with a much more sultry vibe and an equally impressive music video.  This particular video finds the group taking over a sublimely naturally lit residence, performing from room to room, laying the emotions of their notes and lyrics to bare for all to see.  As mentioned previously, this is definitely a group that deserves all of the acclaim and support possible.

Leading Voices :: Alesia Lani And Quinntin B. Smith Shine In ‘Along The Way’ Video

If you’re familiar with Austin‘s hip-hop and R&B scene, their are probably 2 names you’re familiar with by now : R&B powerhouse Alesia Lani and talented videographer Rob G.  These two have collaborated before on memorable videos, and this trend continues with Along The Way, a sincere and mellow rumination on the shared journey of connected souls.  The duet of Lani and guest Quinntin B. Smith work well together over Smith‘s production, and Rob G shows his skill level and tasteful eye by capturing shots that would fit into the canon of classic R&B music videos.  Another strong piece of work from a group of rising stars.
