from the digital desk of Fat Beats:
“Anthony Maintain comes to the label via Boston, MA. He moved down to Austin a couple years ago and has been making his own special brand of twisted and dark music as one of the original performers at Austin’s Exploded Drawing. An MC in his own right, this LP showcases his unreal soundscapes through his production, and invites you into a world of terror set to a kick and a snare. Pure Original now out of Texas, he is and has been part of our extended family since the beginning.”
Purchase of this cassette gets you 13 original songs, plus a killer digital version containing an additional 13 remixes from Lo Phi, Soundfounder, Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice, Kinder and more. Support good music.

from the digital desk of Willie Green:
“I’ve got a lot of songs.
A lot like “200 in the past six years” a lot.
That’s what I told Mo Niklz when I asked him to mix this compilation for me. The idea of narrowing down this many songs to the best 30 was a bit daunting; we finally threw in the towel, leaving the final track count at 38. But hell, if those last eight were so good that we couldn’t keep them off, hopefully you’ll find a way to forgive us.
I gave Mo a lot of license picking which songs would make it; I sent him a relatively short list of “must-includes” and told him to surprise me. The result is a solid hour of some of my favorite cuts, along with some unheard gems, featuring Junclassic, Warren Britt, the Bronx up-and-comer Deshawn Supreme, and rap legend General Steele of Boot Camp Clik.
These are songs I either produced or remixed. Every beat here is mine. The download includes liner notes with stories about each song. Many thanks to Backwoodz Studioz, and everyone involved in making these songs, as well as my many others.
I hope you enjoy.”

While doing some recent housecleaning, I found two missing pieces that had yet to make their way to The Word Association‘s digital archive. I am very happy to now present to you, after years of “lost tapes” status, From The Crates Vols. 1 & 2.

from the digital desk of Mirage512:
“The Undergrind is born out of the spirit of independent hip hop artists from various parts of the country, sharing resources in order to get to the next level. More specifically, it starts with two indie hip-hop cats: one from Philadelphia (Side Effect), and one from Austin, TX (Mirage512). The partnership grew out of an appreciation for Underground hip-hop and soul music. The two linked at a show in Austin in 2012, exchanged music, and began talking about collaborating on an indie tour — born was the idea of the “Undergrind Tour“. The tour will be an annual outing, and grow as an unofficial network of Underground/Indie artists that are willing to work together and share resources. To kick off, Mirage512 & Side Effect will be making the first outing this summer 2013, and they need your support!!!!”

It’s dark, and apparently from a hidden camera, but some footage from the Permanent Record CD Release party has found it’s way to the light. Dig it and dig it good.
