Here we are, barely out of the winter woods, and Click-Clack has gotten together with Coraverde to provide you a little summer music already. The combo is known as Bluegreen, and they’ve got you covered on all fronts : the beats bang, there’s thoughtful lyrics, there’s love songs, both artists hold their own with the flow and the singing, and it’s long enough to be enjoyable but short enough to leave you wanting more.

If these guys don’t win this year’s Austin Music Award for Best Hip-Hop/Rap, I will be extremely surprised.

from the digital desk of Roger Sellers:
“This album will be released in a steady progression. Here’s what I gon do: Starting from this Friday to Dec. 28th, I will release a brand new song to the public for free. You will have one week to download the song for free, in which time I will be writing an entirely new song to be released the Friday thereafter. By doing this, I will be writing the album as it is simultaneously being released. This will give the album a sense of true intuition to the listener. Remember, you will only have one week to download the songs for free so keep up…Im excited about this one.. it will be called “8 Songs” and will be officially done and released on Dec. 31, 2012.”

For those heads that are a bit older, there was a time when your music didn’t come digitally. You were given several formats to choose from… CD/vinyl/cassette… Occasionally, you’d get that music in the style of a single… one or two songs representing upcoming work from that artist. I still keep shoeboxes full of those cassette singles and CD singles, and you know my crates are full of 12″s… Those singles were a way for a broke kid to get a taste of the power and the feeling of empowerment that hip hop music could provide.
Mr. Elles recently hipped me to two new tracks produced by @Delano Taylor, and let me tell you, they fit that old school, hard hitting formula to a “T”. About a week ago, he hipped me to “The Best Part”, a sentimental jam about being thankful for the loving experience, regardless of how it turns out, because you may just learn something about yourself.
Today, he hit me with “Flop House”, which would make the perfect b-side to the a-side feel of “The Best Part”. It’s raw… a day in the life of… a walk in his shoes.
If this is an example of the new project, I’m very much looking forward to it.

GRADE :: A-
IN A WORD OR TWO :: golden-era, raw, clever, witty
——————————————————————–
THE GOOD :: As always, the production is DOPE. This is a great follow-up to “self-titled”… it’s longer, the ideas are executed stronger, and the beats bang just a bit harder. Tunstle and Bern Ichus have always had a great “two sides of the coin” approach, in the sense that they sound great on wax together despite the fact they sound nothing alike. This album is full of bangers front to back : “Patience”, “Vibe Change”, “wayback”, “homecookin'”… there really isn’t a boring track on this album. Great for fans of that 1994-1995 shit… Black Moon, Smif N’ Wessun and so on.
THE BAD :: There are a couple of slight production (in the engineering sense) missteps. They are slight, but spots like the gap of silence behind “W.P.E.” break the momentum at the golden moment. A minor mistake, and a minor complaint.
THE UGLY :: This album is not for people who are sensitive or easily offended. Tunstle, Bern, and their guests talk more shit than a little bit. It’s all funny, but if you don’t share that sense of humor, your feeling may easily be hurt.
THE FINAL WORD :: This is a great first step to the year. It sets the bar nice and high for Homeroom’s 2013 expectations, and provides no reason to believe they won’t take advantage of their moment. Look forward to more goodness from these cats.

My favorite Bruin fan, Anthony Maintain, has been hella busy in the studio lately. After sneak previewing the world to The Elephant Race before it was picked up by iNSECT Records, he has steadily worked on and released high quality music, both old and new.
Shortly after The Elephant Race was pulled in order to prepare for its official release (and its companion piece full of remixes by myself and other Exploded Drawing alumni), Maintain released The Elephant Runts, a collection of work that didn’t quite make the cut for the LP, but are still worth a listen.
Recently, Maintain just returned off of a winter tour back to his hometown of Boston. In preparation for the tour, he put together an exclusive compilation of old work, new work, and guest appearances. This comp features appearances by Onry Ozborn, Homeroom, Click-Clack and myself, and many more. Dig it and dig it good…
Stay tuned… there will be much more coming from his direction in the near future.
