Staking Claim To The Summer :: BoomBaptist’s New Video… “Trunkate”

BoomBaptist has been putting in mad work this year, and it’s looking like this is the summer that he becomes a household name. His two main projects seem to be 1) a series of retrospectives, chronicling the last near decade of his creation, which will lead to 2) the release of a new LP in August.

This video is the first single from that new project. Trunkate is a nice progression into a fuller sound… The head nod factor is definitely still in effect, as always, but now the sound has matured into a beautiful and complicated mix of elements. Grind Life Films put together another stellar video, and you have this nice look into BoomBaptist and his creative process:

You know the drill… Da’Shade Moonbeam is the real deal. A true original, he effortlessly blends different cultures and genres with ease, and in a package that most folks may not be ready to accept, but will be forced to in the near future. He’s changing the game, and bringing back the days when it wasn’t about something surface level, like swag or style… he’s taking it to a place where you have to stand out on your own terms in order to be truly heard and appreciated. Soul On Visuals :: “Continue” by Notes Floats

There are a small handful of people that I would call true influences… people that I got to see in the flesh as a young man with aspirations of being a hip-hop musician. People who were local to Austin like myself, and already doing things on a scale even greater than I could initially imagine.

One of those artist was Notes Floats. He went by Grapefruit when I first met him, and he was a standout from a crew known as the Cool Out Kids. He was one of the first artists I knew who I had on vinyl, a treasure for a young DJ like myself. He was a producer as well as MC, and his beats fell somewhere between De La and Digable Planets.

Notes is still doing his thing now more than ever. He recently released a video for his Continue, and it perfectly captures his essence. Get hip to Notes, because he’s been hip for a while.

It’s So True :: Nosaprise And Kam Franklin School You On “Hot Nights”

I’ve known Nosaprise for close to ten years… friends of friends. He’s always continued to amaze me at his ability to both push the boundaries of his creativity and his comfortability zone. Never one to have a mundane, repetitive sound, Nosa recently released a new video for Hot Nights. Featuring some beautiful vocals by Kam Franklin of The Suffers, and some stellar directing by Apollo Stackwell, it is well worth the watch. Check out Nosaprise during SXSW 2012 this Saturday at Malaia on 6th, 8:00pm.
