Collected Works :: Gost Continues The Work With ‘Vol. 2’

avatars-000306752171-zjuatn-t500x500

My man Gost has a clear gameplan in mind it seems, and that plan is to significantly step his status level up in the near future.  Step one has emerged in the form of what appear to be a series of EP length volume releases, with Vol. 2 being the latest installment.  The beats on this one have that classic hip-hop feel, and Gost spits bars about (and with) pure confidence as he speaks on living your dreams and fulfilling your potential.  This is music with a positive message behind it that will still bump in the whip, so don’t sleep.

Silent Wars :: Hyder Makes Moving Video For ‘Farewell’

Austin-based hip-hop artist Hyder is clearly here to raise the bar of what both an artist and an artistic statement can be.  The former poet turned MC is obviously comfortable taking on topics with weight, as he exhibits in Farewell by effortlessly espousing on the trials and tribulations we face from within and without as we attempt to navigate an often stressful and trying world.  The raw honesty captured in both the song and the video are moving, and the high quality of the video heightens the entire experience.  Definitely check this one out, like and comment on it, and share it around.

You already know what it is.  poolboi blu drops a new volume in the sincere series, and folks should take notice.  For sincere (volume 007)poolboi blu decided to focus on diversity even more so than usual, in terms of tempo, tone and cut selection.  The result is another seamless mix, but one with plenty of dynamics, and not just for flash, but rises and falls that take you on a bit of a journey through a handful of newer songs and current favorites.  If you haven’t been lucky enough to catch poolboi blu live lately, or if you’ve just been stuck on Antsy, don’t sleep on sincere (volume 007), because the series is alive and well.

Heat Check :: Kenny Casanova Drops ‘HONESTLY, FUCK IT’ EP In Anticipation Of A Big Year

artworks-000485229900-idtlxm-t500x500

PNTHN is at the starting point of making major moves in 2019, and the cool thing about being a member of a crew is that these opportunities allow individual members to strike while the iron is hot.  Kenny Casanova has been cooking up a solo project for a moment now, and while doing some recent hard drive cleanup, he decided to throw together a few loose tracks as a taste tester for the full project.  HONESTLY, FUCK IT may not be the project, but it definitely has enough energy and personality to make a run on its own.  Kenny drops a handful of different styles over some short but memorable bangers, making a nice collection of mixtape-worthy tracks that folks like myself will definitely be peppering into our mixes.  Check out the project, keep an eye on Kenny and PNTHN while they continue to make bigger and bigger moves, and always support your local creatives.

Reality Raps :: Nick Cruz & Ruler Why Connect For ‘Tales Of A Paper Hanger’

a4135025414_10

These cats sound like they’ve been making music together forever.  You already know what you’re getting production-wise whenever Ruler Why steps up to bat, and he’s consistently been able to connect with quality lyricists over the years.  Nick Cruz, in his debut solo EP, sounds like he’s been doing it for decades on top of this production, and the combination is utterly hypnotic.  This is the kind of hip-hop that made me both love it and want to be a member of the creative continuum, as life experiences and viewpoints are given rapid fire in the lyrics, beats and samples used.  Well worth the money they’re asking, so go ahead and cop this one, and encourage others to do the same.  On the real.

Humble Bragging :: Notes Keeps The Heat Coming With ‘TRIPLE DANG SNAP’

artworks-000476826741-3e6mdu-t500x500

Notes Floats is at it again, and all of us old-school Austin hip-hop heads can get properly hype about it.  FULL STEAM AHEAD is apparently in the works, and if TRIPLE DANG SNAP is any indication of what’s in store, it’s going to be another win for Notes, the losing champion.  Notes does what he does best on this one, spitting humble brags and dropping properly dope references over a Gorilla Monk beat.  This one is catchy as hell, hitting all the right tones and attitudes to keep the gears turning and your head nodding.  Dig this one and dig it good, share it around, and leave a comment.

Bonus Beats :: Lantic Releases Singles In Preparation Of ‘Anti-Gravity Elevator’

a1730751428_10

Being involved in the central Texas music scene is a blessing for fans of unknown or up-and-coming bands.  Between band members, label owners, sound guys, bar owners and promoters, you’d be hard pressed to go a week without hearing about a handful of local gems.  In my quest for website content, I sometimes get so many recommendations that I overlook some, and Lantic is a prime example of this.  The guys at Apogee presents… posted about Lantic in regards to their upcoming album, Anti-Gravity Elevator, and I promptly saved the link and forgot about it.  Upon digging back through my saves, however, I gave the new tracks a spin, and now I’m waiting urgently for the full-length release, as Lantic hits all the same buttons for me that bands like Tame Impala or artists like Jim James hit.  If you’ve not heard of these guys yet, now’s a good time to get hip.  They were good enough to warrant a double post today!

Headline News :: John Valley Premiers First Trailer For ‘Duncan’

2019 promises to be an exciting year for many creatives, myself included.  Exhibit A : John Valley and his debut feature film, Duncan.  After a successful crowdfunding campaign via Seed&SparkValley and crew shot the film, and going into festival season, it appears we may have something in the works that could potentially make some noise.  Working on this project was a blast, and I’m honored to be a part of it in any capacity.  Stay tuned to Duncan on your favorite form of social media, and be there when this one hits, because it feels like it’s going to hit big.

Traffic Jams :: Click-Clack Drops New Single For ‘Speeding’

artworks-000480438066-q3wcc3-t500x500

From the moment I first heard Bulletwound, I knew Click-Clack had style for days.  Over the years, he’s managed to prove me right by consistently reshaping and evolving his sound, especially when it comes to collaborating with other producers.  That’s why it shouldn’t be any surprise that Speeding hits so hard… producer ICYTWAT serves up a killer of an instrumental, and Click-Clack drops a couple of different styles intermingled together to drive us through the track.  While it would’ve been cool to get a longer song, I’m happy with this banger being a the quick fix that it is.  Definitely share it around, give it a like and a comment, and stay connected to what your local creatives are doing.
