Looking Forward :: (iN)Sect Records Releases ‘Phonkadelic’ LPonCS From The Point

(iN)Sect Records is shaping itself up for a promising 2021.  Dig what they’ve got going on with a promising young new duo, The Point

The Point are a duo of multi-instrumentalists/producers from Austin, Texas.  They began playing music together when they were in 7th grade, and started making beats when they went to high school, which they just graduated from.  They both play virtually every instrument.  Joe Roddy, 18, covers trumpet, keys, guitar and vocals, while Jack Montesinos, 19, covers upright and electric bass, guitar, vocals, percussion and both handle all of the production.  They have gone through genres that span jazz fusion, hip hop, trap, country, and polka, all inspired by our southern roots.  They’ve opened up for Jimmie Vaughn, Kamasi Washington, Gary Clark, Jr. and Barbara Lynn and have been featured on CBS This Morning.

“PHONKADELIC” came together out of them listening to Texas artists such as UGK, Freddie King, George Strait, DJ Screw and and many others.  They took those influences and tried to make a short and sweet project bringing them all together.  This album is not only Texas trap beats, but also features elements of country, RNB and blues.  Made entirely with samplers and live instruments played by Jack & Joe, mixed by them with GarageBand and their phones.  If you rep the Lone Star state, bump this in your whip.”

All facts, so don’t sleep.

Dramatic Chops :: Anthony Maintain Turns In A Visually And Sonically Captivating Set For Fake Fourantine 2021

A couple of weekends ago, Fake Four Inc. hit up myself and a number of my labelmates to participate in Fake Fourantine 2021, the second Twitch-based online festival they’ve held in light of COVID-19 and the impact the pandemic has had on the world at large.  While everyone did their thing, the homie (and split-LP cohort) Anthony Maintain turned in a rather exceptional performance, complete with wonderful black and white captures of several visually striking areas to perform his trademark beatsmithing and rhymesaying.  If you missed the stream, don’t sleep on this performance… it’s inspiring in all the right ways.  Leave the homie a like and a comment, spread it around, and support your local creatives!

Clearly Defined :: Kydd Jones, Fat Tony And BoomBaptist Go In For ‘What You Mean’

The homies Kydd Jones and BoomBaptist are already legends on the Texas scene, so seeing them connect with Houston heavy-hitter Fat Tony makes all the sense in the world.  For me, the best thing about this collaboration (via the recently release What You Mean single) is just how hard everyone involved is going.  Kydd Jones continues to explore and expand the range of his more melodic style that he has stepped into, while Fat Tony brings in some hardcore lyricism as a grounding element… all of this is given the foundation of a dope, lush and super moody track from BoomBaptist.  Plain and simple, don’t sleep on this one… cop it if you can, and pass it around regardless!

Blind Faith :: Notes Floats Keeps It Going With ‘Can’t Call It’

Notes Floats is a master of lo-fi hip-hop bangers, and with his upcoming Lomax EP on the way, it looks like he is looking to continue his mellow production and thoughtful lyricism with Can’t Call It, a song about deep dedication and devotion in the face of what seems like an absence of certainty or results.  The single is a free download, so there’s no reason to not listen to it even if you don’t opt to add it to your collection, so don’t sleep on this one.

Quiet Place :: Marshall Anderson Taps Jeffrey Garcia For ‘Mermaids’ Video

Marshall Anderson just hit us with another beautiful tune, and this time around, he tapped Jeffrey Garcia‘s creative energy to create a memorable and era-blurring video.  Mermaids, when taken on its own, is a dynamic song with layered guitars, a shuffling but catchy drum performance and a ton of subtle harmony, all courtesy of Marshall Anderson and company, so in order to match the timeless feeling of the song, Jeffrey Garcia went with a VHS-based video, resulting in a look that is unique to current aesthetics, but definitely reminiscent of a few generations passed.  Definitely take some time to check this one out, leave a like and a comment if you feel it, and share it around so everyone can enjoy!

Natural Flow :: Perseph One Drops Single And Video For ‘Nurture Nature’

It feels like it’s been a minute since I heard from Perseph One, but perhaps I’ve been slipping… for years, the Houston-based MC pushed the limits of lyricism, abstract symbolism and personal expression, and Nurture Nature seems to be a continuation of all these qualities that made Perseph a household name among fans and other MCs alike.  The track is a little less noise-rap that I’m used to hearing her on, but that doesn’t change the fact that it works well for her, or that she’s still locked in lyrically.  If you’ve not yet heard of Perseph One, or it’s been a while since you’ve heard her get down, then check out this track, leave a like and a comment, and spread the word!

Fact Checking :: MAGNA CARDA Drops New Video For ‘PROPAGANDA’

Dope new video from the Austin-based duo Magna Carda… they’re always grinding, always looking out for the greater community, and first and foremost, always making sure that the music they drop is moving and powerful.  PROPAGANDA finds them focusing in on the foundationless flexing of others while being sure to reaffirm their deep dedication to securing the most for themselves and keeping their craft held in high regard.  If you dig the video, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for all to do the same.

Summertime Sadness :: Chris Conde Taps Ceschi For ‘The Summer Of Our Discontent’ Video And Single

Engulfed in the Marvelous Decay, the upcoming Chris Conde release from Fake Four Inc., drops this upcoming Sunday, and with Conde doing the work in terms of promotional rollout, it makes sense that his third (and seemingly final prerelease) single would feature a guest appearance from the always stellar and compelling Fake Four label-head and foundational artist Ceschi.  Over a very somber and spacious beat, Conde and Ceschi open up their minds and hearts about attempting to stay motivated and creative in a world that gives us reasons to believe otherwise.  The Summer of Our Discontent could soundtrack these bleak and uncertain times we’ve been navigating through lately, so if you feel like you could use a sonic remedy, check out the video, leave a like and a comment, and spread it around for all to take in.
