New Doom!

I love putting the spotlight on Electric Mayhem… working as a team is dope.  Sometimes, however, I gotta sit back and admire the times when I cut loose.  These mixes are moments that I have enjoyed during various DJ gigs, whether they be club, wedding, house party or whatvever… these two mixes are from last week’s Electric Mayhem (Monday nights, Triple Crown).

Dig it and dig it good.

Spotlight on RapAndPaint : Emcee Eats (Vincent Martinez)

Originality is king… in today’s world, you’ve gotta be multitalented, you’ve gotta do it well, and you’ve gotta go big.  Over the years, one member of the Austin area community continues to push (and/or blur) the lines between hip-hop and art, and that man is Emcee Eats.

First, the music.  The flow is dope.  The beat selection is ill.  The content is multi-layered and mandatory of multiple listens, because each listen brings forth new elements.  Imagine Busta Rhymes via Jackson Pollack.  Descriptions, however, truly cannot do the music justice… only a listen can:

Then, there’s the art… the range and scope of his vision has yet to be quantified.  Any object is a blank slate, yet the training and technique of college bring forth works worth hanging in your home.  The influences are as vast (in my opinion) as Picasso, yet as recent as Basquiat, or even Stephen Powers.  Graf mindstate with gallery aesthetics, and the attitude of an MC.  Definitely, a force to be reckoned with.

By the way, Eats is gonna catch wreck on the opening track of the upcoming It/ll Be Better Tomorrow, my new LP.  Dig.

A Blast From The Past

As a part of my self-imposed learning of the internet and all of its digital companions, I stumbled across a way to archive all of my footage of The Word Association and .::liquidstereoproject that I own.  I will be putting these movies up over the next week or so… be sure to keep coming back and checking for the new stuff.

This video is from The Word Association’s CD Release party at Sundance Records back in 2006:

The Locksmiths – Subterranea *Official Video*

From the Facebook desk of Anthony Maintain:

Hello friends,

So…. I spontaneously burst into video production mode yesterday and made this weird video for a song that Cozmos and I did on The Locksmiths last release.

As strange as it is, I am very proud of the video and would greatly appreciate it if you took the time to check it out. If you feel inclined, please share it on your wall.

Either way, thanks for your time!

Peace,
Anthony

New Electric Mayhem Mixes!

Spotlight on Friends : John Fox

This past weekend, many of us in San Marcos, Texas lost a dear friend.  John Fox was one of those rare people who managed to stay optimistic throughout all obstacles that life places in front of us.  His glow will continue to shine in the words and actions of his friends.

Charrisa Jeannett is putting together a book for John’s family of notes, drawings, poems, etc about how much we love John or maybe just something that reminds you of him.  She is working to get it together before the funeral (which has not been set).  If you would like to participate, you may contact her at charissajeannett@yahoo.com, or through Facebook.

Remember, life is something to be treasured.  We should all be lucky enough to enjoy life the way John did, in intervals at the least.  Tell somebody that you love them today… you don’t know when the next opportunity will be…

A Word on Electric Mayhem

For almost a decade, I have had the pleasure of knowing that I never have to go a week without at least one gig.  Electric Mayhem has definitely been a godsend, and I am proud that we still do it weekly to this day.

Electric Mayhem serves as a sort of therapy… it allows me time to make sense of the mass amount of music I have been exposed to.  Dots are connected amongst songs, styles and artists.  Hits of yesterday and today are given a chance to flex their muscle, and forgotten or unknown gems get a chance to shine.  All who witness leave either entertained or educated.

I bring TheDoomsdayDevice with me, including a Serato setup, MIDI controller and Korg Kaoss Pad.  My partner in crime, sPYhOP, sticks with the traditional DJ setup of turntables, mixer, and tons of vinyl.  Having been friends before our working relationship began, the chemistry between us is as natural as can be, and half of the entertainment is watching us work with each other.

You can catch us at the end of June in Austin at Plush:

We can also be found every Monday night at Triple Crown:

See you space cowboy!
