World Premiere :: ‘Gang Signs’ Hits The Airwaves

I’ve been a fan of what the League of Extraordinary G’z and all those connected have done for a long time now, and one of the main reasons I love what they do is because of the energy they bring to their music.  You can tell that these cats speak from deep experience, and that they stand behind every word spoken.  All of these aspects are on 10 for the latest release, Gang Sings, a banger courtesy of $.DotDoWrong and Dominican Jay.  As a longtime fan of groups like Compton’s Most WantedSouth Central Cartel, and rappers like DJ Quik, this track checks all the proper boxes for me.  The video is dynamic, with excellent camerawork and direction guided by Super Thing, and the Eric Dingus track matches the energy level of all three MCs, who straight snap on each verse.  This one is an instant classic, so get in on the ground floor with the likes, comments and shares, because folks are gonna get hip quick to this one.

Mental Blessings :: StormShadow And Dr. Bobby Banner, MPC Visualize ‘The Pathway’

The Indelibe Inc. camp stays in creative mode, and their latest output is a solid slice of inspiration messaging courtesy of StormShadow, one of Austin‘s more forward thinking and esoteric MCs.  With the help of Dr. Bobby Banner, MPC on both production and creation of the accompanying video, Storm presents the masses with guidance in terms of bars that focus on recognizing the power within you, harnessing your understanding through education, and learning how to focus your energies into positive outcomes for yourself and your circle.  I’ve always been a fan of where Storm‘s head is at, and The Pathway is just further proof that he’s on the right track creatively.  Check out the video, like it and leave a comment to help boost its YouTube presence, and share it around so others can do the same.

Unlocking Chambers :: Axiom Brings ‘Wu-Tang : Shaloin Masters’ To ‘Rappers Playing Games (RPG)’

Like many hip-hop lovers my age, minds were blown when Wu-Tang Clan popped up in a fighting game on the PS1 in the form of Wu-Tang : Shaolin Masters, so it was only a matter of time before it found its way to Protextor‘s Baby Lion series, the infamous Rappers Playing Games (RPG).  The San Antonio-based MC known as Axiom was responsible for bringing the game through, which is appropriate, because he drops tons of knowledge on his perspectives and experience in hip-hop very much in the vein of how many of the Wu-Tang artists look at the world.  Most every game and conversation had on Rappers Playing Games (RPG) is enjoyable, but there’s something about this particular combination of game and conversation that resonates on a supreme level.  Dig this one and dig it good, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for others to do the same.

Uncanny Valley :: Kae Astra And John Valley Collaborate For Stunning ‘Medicate’ Video

During the weeks leading up to the recent production of John Valley‘s first feature film, Duncan, a crowdfunding campaign was created in hopes of making the production as smooth and beneficial for everyone involved as possible.  The support garnered was overwhelming, and among those who supported was current Austin resident and recording artist Kae Astra.  Due to the tier of donation she took part in, John Valley stepped up to the plate to direct visual art for Kae Astra in the form of Medicate.  Words do not do this song and video justice… take a few minutes to check it out for yourself, share it around for others to do the same, and leave a like and/or a comment to help boost the visibility!

Alone Together :: Voodoo Boogaloo Teases New Music With ‘We’re Alone Now’ Acoustic Video

Recently, Voodoo Boogaloo decided to take a societal detox, purchasing a ranch and taking a go at being self-sustainable while simultaneously exploring and expanding their sound.  Apparently, these efforts have been fruitful, as the duo decided to tease the masses with a beautiful acoustic rendition of one of their upcoming songs, We’re Alone Now.  The song is an expression of their efforts to not only bolster their personal connection together, but also bolster their respective connection to their audience and supporters, as both of these synergistic relationships are infinitely important.  Logan and Stephanie have not only promised that their more traditional, psychedelic approach to production will hit this song soon, but that they already have others ready to share in the near future.  I’m certainly looking forward to seeing these two perform again, and I am anxiously waiting the release of a new project.  In the meantime, check out this video, give it a like, leave a comment, and share it around for others to do the same!

Making Tracks :: Cort Sikes Stops By ‘Rappers Playing Games (RPG)’ For Some Super Mario Kart (SNES)

Baby Lion is keeping it moving right along with a new episode of Protextor‘s amazing series, Rappers Playing Games (RPG).  For this edition, Austin hip-hop scene member and proponent Cort Sikes stopped by to challenge Protextor to a game of Super Mario Kart on the SNESCort reminisces on his entry into the Austin hip-hop scene via the Texas Battle League and the peers he met along the way, his introduction to Protextor via the Austin Mic Exchange (AMX), and more, all the while dropping knowledge on the local culture and which racers run the Mario Kart tracks.  You already know the drill with this series… like, comment, share and subscribe!

Live Direct :: Virgil Wolfe Captures Live Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice Performance Of ‘Just To Be Clear’

This past weekend, I took part in The Wild Rumpus 48, a monthly event curated by Grid Squid Entertainment that is currently held at Kiva Lounge & Bar in San Marcos.  The homie Virgil Wolfe was in attendance, and after rocking a spur of the moment set, he was gracious enough to capture my performance of Just To Be Clear, the last single I’ve released from most recent collaborative effort with Lo PhiUncanny Valley.  I almost got through the whole thing, but a slight (hilarious) distraction in the audience caused me to take a freestyling detour to wrap things up.  Definitely happy this one was captured, however, as it’s been a while since I’ve seen myself on stage.

Cypher Season :: Cha’keeta B Curates #TheeATXCypher Sessions

Over the past couple of years, I’ve watched Cha’keeta B evolve from a raw talent into a figurehead for the Austin hip-hop movement.  Not only has she focused on her music and image, she’s done the same for a handful of others on the scene, allowing them chances to step out of their sphere and gain more exposure (and hopefully inspiring them to continue this cycle).  Her latest example of these efforts are a pair of YouTube videos she recently dropped dubbed Thee ATX Cypher (Pt. 1 and Pt. 2).

Pt. 1 features DJ E in the cut, with verses by Dot drop da beat2-4 OsoTone Brigante and CP Loony, while Pt. 2 finds DJ Tigre playing host to Cha’keeta BQueen DeelahCeCe Hustle and Marshe’.  Rob G Films uses a minimalist approach that is highly effective, allowing each group to set the tone with their cyphers and the wide range of topics that are hit.  Definitely check these out, like and comment on both, and share them around for others to enjoy.

Mental Math :: SniperShot Drops Dope Visual For ‘Fibonacci Microphone Pimpin’

There’s something special about SniperShot‘s ability to mix the rawness and immediacy of hip-hop with the knowledge, wisdom and understanding that comes with enlightenment.  Be he broadcasting from nature, the streets or the stage, his ability to turn concepts into lyrical darts is one that must be admired, and it’s arguable that he’s never sounded better doing this than he does on his latest single and video, Fibonacci Microphone Pimpin.  With the help of some visualized mental equations and trippy visual accents, SniperShot drops confident bars over a gold-school sounding beat that would’ve made many West Coast and Third Coast artists jealous that they missed out on it.  Definitely dive into this video, share it around for others to do the same, and leave a like and/or comment to let SniperShot know what you think!

Funky Dividends :: ‘BMF (Big Money Facts)’ Visualized By Clova And $outh$ide Hippie

Anyone who steps away from the visual for BMG (Big Money Facts) by Clova and $outh$ide Hippie (beautifully put together by Big&Little Productions) unclear of what motivates the duo may need their head checked.  The Austin-based hip-hop duo make it pretty straight forward in both their lyrics and the visuals that accompany them… money is the major motivating factor, and they are not ashamed to stand behind that.  Rap life is lived to the fullest in this visual, with the studio session blasting the track, plenty of drink and smoke to go around, homies paying surprise visits (Austin modern day legend Sertified, in this case), and money raining from the sky to drive it all home.  This one is solid and straightforward, to great effect if I say so myself, so let’s all get behind it by liking the vid, leaving a comment, and sharing it around for others to do the same!
