Ripple Effect :: Ben Buck Making Waves With ‘McNasty Was Here’ Video

Ben Buck most certainly embodies the Austin aesthetic, and his video for McNasty Was Here cuts right to the heart of that matter with its two main elements : weirdness and live music.  Director Gravy Jones cuts between live footage and material that looks like B-roll from a skate video to perfectly capture what a day in the life of Ben Buck must feel like.  I’m not the man, so I can’t speak for him, but to my knowledge, most days entail kicking it with his crew, being creative, making music, and whenever the chance affords it, jumping on stage to further the legend.  Definitely check out the video, give it a like and a share, and leave a comment for support!

Natural Mystic :: BlackLight Goes On A Vision Quest For ‘Woah!’ Video

BlackLight has been on a very public and heartfelt journey to better his craft on all levels, both creatively and as a man, and it has been a very inspirational journey to watch.  Aside from the public works and songwriting that he does, he’s delved into the world of visual production as well, and a significant point in the growth was marked by a pair of music videos : Crying AF, which was previously covered on this blog, and Woah!, a slightly heavier allusion to the journey on which BlackLight was about to partake.  The video shows him symbolically (and, at a certain point, literally) stepping outside of himself to explore his life, journey and choices from a number of different angles, all with the help of a mystic woman and some time spent alone in nature.  The video has a wonderful DIY ethic, but it still manages to have a deep enough psychedelic aesthetic to make its point clear and concise.  I am definitely looking forward to what future creations BlackLight has in store, as he’s mentioned that he’s cooking up a couple of projects that promise to entertain to maximum potential.

Throwback Vibes :: PNTHN’s ‘Megatron’ Video

PNTHN is back at it again, which is a good thing, because their music video game has been strong since day one.  For Megatron, the crew goes for an older vibe, dusting off the late 1990’s aesthetic to the fullest.  All of the earmarks are there : donuts in the parking lot, rapping in an abandoned warehouse, fire in a barrel, dutch angles, tons of crew, and even aged video all add to the quality and feel of a song with strong energy as a foundation.  Henriques definitely did his thing visually, and PNTHN did what they do, making the result one that speaks for itself.  Dope, for sure, and has me ready for more.

Dark Arts :: Gain Gang Connects With Sertified And Pirscription For ‘Voodoo’

Gain Gang, the ‘national beat store for rappers’, just hooked up with Texas rappers Sertified and Pirscription for Voodoo, an extremely moody banger with subtle allusions to both flexing and mysticism, all cleverly intertwined with a music video that shows growth for the artists involved.  Elements of clairvoyance and voodoo (of course) permeate the video, especially in the extremely well-lit tarot and crystal ball sequences.  Add in the blunts, gold teeth and Texas flavor, and you’ve got a familiar foundation with a fresh twist on the top.  Good stuff all around.

True Foundations :: ImYoungin Talks Real On ‘Change Up’

Life is full of odd behavior and second guessing, and it’s crystal clear that ImYoungin understands that to the fullest.  Change Up, his latest music video, is a focus on staying real to yourself, embracing your come up, and navigating the mine field that is jealousy and envy at your success (and/or others’ lack of success).  ImYoungin avoids the cliches of fancy sets and big money objects, instead opting to keep he and his daughter looking fresh while hanging out in the neighborhood, possibly as a testament to show how he will always support those that show support back.  The track hits hard, ImYoungin effortlessly switches between a mellow hook and blistering verses, and the video is full of images that would make even the most heartless cat on the street stop and smile for a second.  Check out the vid, give it a like and a share, and leave a comment… and as always, support local!

New Forms :: Dynja Completely Transforms ‘The Chase’ By The Vapor Caves

The art of the remix is one that is vast, far reaching, and full of room to establish a unique identity.  This is what makes it so special when a song like The Chase by The Vapor Caves is put out in the world for producers to revamp, and those like Dynja take the opportunity to make the song completely new and fresh.  Dynja flipped the tempo and feel of the song, turning a New Jack Swing-influenced hip-hop/R&B track into a spacey, high energy dance track.  On top of all of that, the song also got the video treatment in the most tasteful way possible, showing how vibes translate from one person to another in an infectious way.  Good stuff all around.

TrumpCard believes that the children are the future, and it shows in their latest music video offering, Let’s Go Camping.  After a recent visit to the Texas state capitol, the group decided to try and bring a set of young ones into the fold, helping to educate them in their beliefs and teach them the proper ideologies to succeed in life.  As evidenced by the video, the group’s methods are flawless, and the young crowd quickly fell in line with their train of thought.  If you’re interested in going camping with TrumpCard, all you have to do is like the video, leave a comment, and share it around!

Mind Scramble :: The Brain Drops Visual Science With ‘Many Questions’

The Brain, member of prolific Austin hip-hop outfit SubKulture Patriots, has recently been bitten by the bug that is visual creation, and in a giant step forward, has released a multi-layered instant classic in the form of Many Questions.  The Brain has always been known for writing that is both creative and dense, and his visual style follows suit to great effect.  The feelings of the questions provided juxtaposed against the eerie visuals are addressed in the song’s midpoint by the vocal sample, and the flip from hectic cutting against the questions to a bolder, longer take with an assertive flow for the answers gives the song great balance.  Definitely give this one a like, share and a comment, as The Brain says he has more in store for us.

High Rising :: Cameron Elise Creates Visuals For ‘East Side’

Singer/songwriter Cameron Elise has now joined the list of creators that have taken the task of creating a music video into their own hands.  After the recent acquisition of a camera and nothing but inspiration to guide her, Elise was able to create a memorable and striking video for East Side, capturing several slice of life moments to punctuate her musical tales of people chasing their dreams.  The mostly black and white, highly stylized visuals work well, with the occasional peppered in use of a mirror split screen and rain effects thrown in for good measure.  Definitely impressive for a first time effort, and here’s to hoping that it won’t be the last.

Mellow Hype :: Poolboi Blu Steps Up To The Director’s Chair For ‘Lounge’ Video

When it comes to being an independent musician/artist, you enjoy collaborative efforts, but you quickly learn that the key to putting out songs/videos at a rate that works for you is taking over in all capacities.  poolboi blu has had the beats and rhymes on lock for a minute, but 2019 is showing that he has a visual side as well.  His first music video from ANTSY is the self-shot and edited jam that is lounge, and it features poolboi in elements that he is quite familiar with… home, Bad Ingredients Records, the Yellow Store, and even in the proximity of a pool.  As much as I like working with poolboi on the video tip, if this is an indication of what he can do with no experience, I’m all for seeing what his visual eye develops into.  Give this one a like and a share, and be sure to leave a comment as well.
