Deeply Connected :: The Vapor Caves Take A Look Back At ‘I Miss You’

a1738282454_10

The Vapor Caves (as BoomBaptist and Yadira Brown of Keeper are collectively known) have been on the rise the last few years, and 2019 promises to hold great things in store for them.  In preparation for the new year, BoomBaptist decided to take a trip down memory lane and reminisce on the winter of 2015, when he sent Yadira Brown a collection of hip-hop beats as a Christmas present.  Out of the 15 sent, Yadira chose three, and the first official collaboration between the artists that would later form The Vapor Caves was I Miss You, a very 1990s-esque hip-hop track where Yadira sings and rhymes about attraction and the process of letting your guard down to accept those feelings.  As a present to all of us, the group decided to release the track for free, so definitely download it and share it around, as the next moves that The Vapor Caves have in store are big ones.

Connected Spirits :: The Vapors Caves Emerge, Release ‘Who Are You?’

BoomBaptist and Yadira Brown are not strangers when it comes to combining forces.  After a few one-off collaborations, and the work both have done with Keeper, I am sure I am not the only one happy to hear about The Vapor Caves coming into existence.  The duo will most certainly be a formidable one on the scene, with Boom‘s skillful tracks providing the perfect foundation for Brown‘s soothing vocals and thought-provoking lyrics.  If the first single, Who Are You?, is any indication of the group’s potential, then we’ve got plenty to look forward to in the years to come.

Reflection Time :: Recognition Via An Invitation, Or OVRLD.COM’s Best Of 2016

best-of-austin-2016

The awesome guys and gals at OVRLD.com have always been wonderful and supportive people, and they have gone out of their way on numerous occasions to shine alight on the work of Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice.  Earlier this month, however, Morgan gave me a compliment he may or may not have even realized he was giving me by inviting me to take part in OVRLD‘s spin on the end of year list, Our Austin Music Friends Picks For Best of 2016.  While explicitly stating these were the music friends, one thing that the guys at the OVRLD blog have always hammered in to me is that they love my blog over here, and Morgan never lets me forget that I have built up quite a bit of blogging clout I may not even realize I have.

Cut to yesterday, when the article drops.  There I am, top placement on the list, setting the tone for the entire article.  Then I began to notice other folks reaffirming choices I made on my list, almost automatically.  Then the props for the Butcher Bear and BoomBaptist collaboration video I did started rolling in.  THEN the thank you’s begin to roll in via social media for the local choices I made.  Yesterday was truly a gratifying day, and I owe it all to Morgan and the folks at OVRLD for finally allowing me to see what’s been in front of me the entire time.

Esoteric Clerics :: ‘Barbaric Rhetoric’ Video Drops

When Butcher Bear reached out to me for a guest verse spot on This Is How The Game Gets You Played, I was honored.  When I heard the final version of Barbaric Rhetoric, with BoomBaptist added on, I was blown away.  Then, when Butcher Bear reached out to us for a Karan Kapoor directed video, I was very much excited.  We shot it, shopped it, and I’m glad to say that it has now hit the digital airwaves.  I could not be happier to share this video with everyone, and I’m looking forward to future collaborations with all of these guys.

Bigger Each Year :: Exploded Drawing SXSW Compilation 2015

There are TOO many people on this compilation to list, but trust me, every time that soundfounder and Butcher Bear get together to show the world what Exploded Drawing has in store for the year, it’s a hit.  Throw in A Better Tomorrow handling the sonic polishing, and we’re in it to win it.  I’m especially proud of this one, because I have a track on here from the upcoming instrumental release Slow Burnout, plus a collaboration from Butcher Bear‘s upcoming album with BoomBaptist.  Dig it, share it, and support your local underground movement!

Staking Claim To The Summer :: BoomBaptist’s New Video… “Trunkate”

BoomBaptist has been putting in mad work this year, and it’s looking like this is the summer that he becomes a household name.  His two main projects seem to be 1) a series of retrospectives, chronicling the last near decade of his creation, which will lead to 2) the release of a new LP in August.

This video is the first single from that new project.  Trunkate is a nice progression into a fuller sound… The head nod factor is definitely still in effect, as always, but now the sound has matured into a beautiful and complicated mix of elements.  Grind Life Films put together another stellar video, and you have this nice look into BoomBaptist and his creative process:
