Fine Dining :: 5-D Drops Another Gem With ‘Burger Cheese’

Burger

It seems that variety is the wave once again in hip-hop, and luckily, Austin has a diverse selection of MCs and producers to provide us with a large variety of hip-hop locally.  Local legends HBZ and RuDi Devino, collectively known as 5-D when they connect with Solar Shield, have been flexing their creative range as of late, and their latest single is a monster.  Burger Cheese finds the duo dropping bar after bar about ascension and standing out, and do so by mixing in a metric ton of visual imagery and metaphor over a beat that swings way harder than it has any business doing so, and it all mixes together perfectly.  This one is an earworm for sure… you’ll probably run it back a few times on the first listen, and it’ll definitely stick with you for the long run.  Check it out, like and leave a comment, and spread the word about 5-D and Burger Cheese for others to enjoy and do the same.

Night Moves :: Yngldy Drops Video For ‘Final Bout’

Austin is weird, no doubt, and for the most part that weirdness has been captured across the city’s musical spectrum.  Hip-hop in the city, for the most part, is a relatively serious venture, where even the funny MCs and groups still have a certain level of gravitas that they carry themselves with, as to be taken seriously regardless of lyrical cleverness.  It seems that Yngldy, unlike these other groups, could give less than a damn about coming off as serious, and yet Final Bout lacks none of the lyrical weight or sharpness of their contemporaries.  The video is a sight to see, for sure, and the song will stick in your head long after the final frames have faded away.  This Austin trio has definitely just hit my radar in a major way, and I’ll be keeping an eye and an ear out for what’s next.  Check out the video, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for others to do the same.

Looking Back :: Acclimated Assassin Revisits A Bygone Era On ‘Restoration’ LP

a3868103057_10

Hip-hop is known for the cycles that it goes through, and how it folds back in on itself to create fresh sounds out of new-sounding elements that are deeply rooted in its own past.  That being said, with 808s making the resurgence they have as of lately, it only makes sense that the boom-bap era is due its time in the sun near future.  Acclimated Assassin, and Austin-based hip-hop producer (by way of Maine), seems to be in that same mindset, as Restoration finds him putting an updated and personal spin on familiar drums and stabs that made the boom-bap era such a prolific one.  The result is a handful of tracks that you wish you’d heard Black MoonO.C.Casual, or any name from the absurdly long list of monolithic MCs that emerged from the early to mid-1990s rap on.  Definitely check this one out asap, spread it around for others to dig in to, and cop it if you have a few bucks.

Moments Passing :: Chuck Duze And You F. Oh Get Deep On ‘Waiting…’ Visual

Chuck Duze, member of the FOCI collective and Austin-based hip-hop creative, just dropped a gem in the form of Waiting…, a reflection on action versus observation in hopes of riding the inspirational wave.  The D-Low produced track is a lush, low-key bed of drums and melodic elements, and this foundation allows Chuck Duze and fellow MC You F. Oh to display their unique but complimentary styles.  The video leans slightly into the realms of absurdity, with the duo donning full body animal costumes as if they’re normal attire while strolling the streets in a seemingly self-imposed daze.  When it comes to independent work, this checks all the boxes in the top-notch category.  Check it out, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for others to do the same!

Sky Captain :: MAD1ONE Hits The Internet Again With ‘Invisible Kingdom’

a3917268049_10

For the last few years, you know you’re good for about two releases from MAD1ONE, and with the second half of the year cresting and running into the final portion, it makes sense that he’d release Invisible Kingdom, a collection of hard-hitting, mostly high energy songs from the San Antonio-based veteran.  The production line-up for this one is insane : Four LimbsDJ GonzRuler WhyKizerSBVTKFurthermoreProgenySultan Mir and Mikey all contribute to the stellar sounds that MAD1ONE eloquently professes on.  This one is another strong notch in his belt, so don’t sleep on it… check it out, share it around, and if you have a few bucks, make a donation when you download, as every little bit helps.

Another Day :: Feral The Earthworm Strikes Again With ‘Sitting On A Curb’ Video

Making videos is so nice, why not do it twice?  That must be the energy that Feral the Earthworm, Buddy Brown and Carly Molstad are feeling these days, because right on the heels of their Crust Rapper video collaboration, they’ve dropped Sitting on A Curb, an equally creative follow-up music video with it’s own unique look and feel.  The group decided to go for a more artistic look, framing Feral on several literal curbs with visually pleasing cracks and background areas, lining him up clean enough so that they could cut between the locations while Feral stayed fixed and flowing.  The end result is strong, making the video instantly memorable and one that stays on your mind long after viewing.  Share this one around too… like and comment on it too… and you may as well subscribe to Feral‘s YouTube channel if you’ve not done so already, as I imagine there’s more in store…

Blazing Trails :: Feral The Earthworm Debuts ‘Crust Rapper’ Music Video

As stated in the video’s description, Feral the Earthworm has made loads of content for social media, but he has never done a true and proper music video.  With the help of directing duo Buddy Lewis and Car Molstad, his trusty van, and a little costuming magic, Crust Rapper was blessed with a memorable and entertaining video reminiscent of a time in hip-hop where creativity thrived and resonated on uncharted levels, which really allowed individual skills and characteristics to shine.  Feral is certainly a forward thinking individual, and it’s nice to see him expand his creative realms into both the familiar and unfamiliar, as he continues to be an inspiration to all of us.  Check out the video, leave a like and a comment, and share it around so others can get in on the action!

Staying Afloat :: Anthony Maintain Shows Out On ‘Plugging Holes In The Same Leaky Boat’

a0506187273_10

This is one of those moments where the anticipation pays off.. where the wait was well worth it.. Anthony Maintain has been teasing the release of Plugging Holes In The Same Leaky Boat for quite a while now, debuting bits and pieces in live sets prior to moving from the Austin area back to the East Coast.  Everyone who’d heard the tastes provided, however, knew that when the project dropped, it was going to drop like a ton of bricks, and Anthony Maintain has proven me correct.  This album is a sonic journey through moody soundscapes and thought-provoking wordplay, plus there are a handful of special contributors on the project (one of which you may recognize).  Check this one out at the link above, or on your favorite streaming service, and encourage others to do the same!

Mental Blessings :: StormShadow And Dr. Bobby Banner, MPC Visualize ‘The Pathway’

The Indelibe Inc. camp stays in creative mode, and their latest output is a solid slice of inspiration messaging courtesy of StormShadow, one of Austin‘s more forward thinking and esoteric MCs.  With the help of Dr. Bobby Banner, MPC on both production and creation of the accompanying video, Storm presents the masses with guidance in terms of bars that focus on recognizing the power within you, harnessing your understanding through education, and learning how to focus your energies into positive outcomes for yourself and your circle.  I’ve always been a fan of where Storm‘s head is at, and The Pathway is just further proof that he’s on the right track creatively.  Check out the video, like it and leave a comment to help boost its YouTube presence, and share it around so others can do the same.

Buzz Words :: Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice Drops ‘Bee Drowns In The Honey’ In Anticipation Of ‘Day For Night’ Release

artworks-000604233037-h8jafu-t500x500

I’m getting extremely hype about releasing Day For Night, my latest EP in a long line of solo releases.  The original idea was to be dialing down the musical output at this time to make room for other creative outlets, but inspiration cannot be denied once it makes its presence known.  Bee Drowns In The Honey is the perfect example of this principle, as it was the cadence and verse-styling of Playboi Carti that inspired me to approach this beat with a different attitude and execution.  I’m very happy with this particular song, and the project as a whole, so definitely make sure to share this one around, and keep your eyes and ears open for more information in regards to the release of the full project.
