Air Time :: Manners Stops By KTSW 89.9 For Studio C Sessions

If there’s one thing that San Marcos will never run out of, it’s bands.  You can barely throw a rock without hitting someone that contains enough talent and personality to hold a crowd’s attention.  Manners is one of the groups that, over the past year or so, has stayed vigilant and managed to make a name for themselves.  Because KTSW 89.9 understands the importance of giving props where props are due, the band was recently invited to bless Studio C Sessions with a performance of their song Creeps.  Check it out, stay in tune to KTSW 89.9 and in line with what Manners are keeping up to, and always support local.

Brutal Honesty :: More Talk Time With DDotElles And Lit Up AV

You know what it is.  DDotElles, the Austin hip-hop version of The World’s Most Interesting Man, took some time to chop it up with Lit Up AV.  On this particular snippet, we get to hear my man speak on hip-hop as a culture, genre and subgenre classification, and the art of knowing you’re great while recognizing there’s a time and place for your particular style of expression.  Enjoy, like, share, and leave a comment!

Lasting Impressions :: Check Out The Movies That Scarred Me Podcast

safe_image

As I’ve mentioned recently, a major part of 2018 has been exploring every aspect of my relation to film, be it my love for the medium or my drive to create.  In the wake of this decision, the DOOMonFILM blog was created, and one of the goals for its creation was to open the door to new opportunities.  In just 3 short months of existence, the first opportunity has emerged in the form of an invitation to appear on the Movies That Scarred Me podcast, hosted by Nick Hanover and Mark O. Stack.  The two sit down weekly and talk about films the way that me and my friends do on a regular basis, and I am beyond excited to take part in this opportunity.  Stay tuned and I’ll be sure to share when my episode goes up, but check out the other 4 in the meantime.

Words Felt :: The Artistic Poetry Of Kelsey Johnson And ‘The World As She Feels It’

visualart-edited28129

It never ceases to amaze me how many truly talented people I encounter on a day to day basis.  The beauty of it is, most of these people are so humble that you’d never know the talent they possess unless a third party made you hip.  In my current circle of friends, I’ve gotten to know Kelsey Johnson pretty well, and one of my discoveries was her love for prose and her stylistic choice of using a typewriter to document this prose.  Recently, the folks at Sybil Journal allowed her the opportunity to present her work in the form of The world as she feels it.  The page is a great example of how she uses the typewriter more like a paintbrush than a word processor, allowing her feelings to take on a life of their own within the constraints of the page.  I’m always happy to see people get an opportunity to shine, and I recommend you spend some time checking out this heartfelt art.

Mobbing Deep :: Camo Crew Drops ‘Who Is It?’ Single

Back in the day, the Austin hip-hop vibe was heavy with collaborative efforts… Mirage 512 and Tee Double used to connect regularly, Bavu Blakes first cut his teeth with Reelaktz, and Da’Shade Moonbeam famously came up via DKC / Off The Block.  Therefore, even though the city nowadays has a tendency to clique up rather than build as a united front, solo MCs occasionally still link up for crew projects.  The old school homie Profit-Z hit me up with a track from his partners Camo Crew featuring bars from himself, Mista Wyte and Legion D. Wise, with the production assist from OSKAR MIKE (Anno Domini Beats).  Definitely check it out, give it a comment, like and share, and keep supporting local hip hop!

Mister Manners :: Click-Clack And Ballteam Drop ‘Pretty Please’ Single

Screenshot_1

Once again, you gotta give it up for Click-Clack… ever since he and his collaborative team of producers unleashed their Ballteam branding, the already stellar music has taken an even higher jump in terms of quality and heart.  Pretty Please is an abstract, open-hearted testimonial of a track set to a beat that will get your body moving.  Click-Clack has been running the singles game for a couple of years now… I’m definitely ready to see what he has in store for upcoming albums, and where (if) some of these singles will find eventual placement.

Carpe Diem :: Pleasure Venom Release Music Video For ‘Seize’ To Instant Critical Acclaim

As a working, touring band trying to get ahead in an over-saturated game, there is a sense of accomplishment to be felt whenever you complete a creative endeavor such as a music video or an album.  At best, you hope that your blood, sweat and tears are recognized by a handful of appreciative folks.  Sometimes, as in the case of Pleasure Venom and their newest video/single Seize, you put in that work, and then a publication like Afropunk gives you props and posts about it, giving you a bit more incentive to keep doing your thing.  I’m happy for Pleasure Venom, as it’s always nice to see those that deserve recognition get it.  They’ve been on quite the tear closing out 2017 and leading into 2018, so give the video a like and a share, drop a comment, and subscribe to the channel for all of the latest Pleasure Venohaps.

Catching Up :: Wild Child ‘Expectations’ Music Video Cannot Be Overlooked

Recently, I shared Wild Child‘s newest video, the catchy Think It Over.  I realized soon after that I had overlooked the first single for Expectations, a title track with a much more sultry vibe and an equally impressive music video.  This particular video finds the group taking over a sublimely naturally lit residence, performing from room to room, laying the emotions of their notes and lyrics to bare for all to see.  As mentioned previously, this is definitely a group that deserves all of the acclaim and support possible.

Ambient Waves :: Epop Nivek’s ‘Second Hand Processing’ Is Experimental Bliss

a3209405340_10

While doing my year-end round up, I stumbled across Epop Nivek on Bandcamp.  Being a fan of experimental composers and songs, I put it on the backburner to check out, and as per usual, 2018 got busy to the point that I overlooked it.  Recently, I rediscovered this project, and now it is imperative that I share Second Hand Processing with followers of this blog.  In a world full of same-y sounding synthesizers and drum sounds, it’s interesting to hear someone take field recordings, ambient noise, instrumental and sonic snippets, and turn this vast array into a statement in the form of an album, let alone a song.  If you’re an open-minded fan of music, this one is definitely worth looking in to.

Leading Voices :: Alesia Lani And Quinntin B. Smith Shine In ‘Along The Way’ Video

If you’re familiar with Austin‘s hip-hop and R&B scene, their are probably 2 names you’re familiar with by now : R&B powerhouse Alesia Lani and talented videographer Rob G.  These two have collaborated before on memorable videos, and this trend continues with Along The Way, a sincere and mellow rumination on the shared journey of connected souls.  The duet of Lani and guest Quinntin B. Smith work well together over Smith‘s production, and Rob G shows his skill level and tasteful eye by capturing shots that would fit into the canon of classic R&B music videos.  Another strong piece of work from a group of rising stars.
