Lo Phi and I have been working on this one for a hot minute… after some final touches, finalizing of the track list, and a little love from IQ at FrownLand Records, we are proud to finally release Uncanny Valley. This project is a celebration of distorted sounds and distorted thinking coming together to create harmonic resonance… Lo Phi kicks things into the red as he leaves his heart inside the beat machine, while I dug deep into all that’s been going on in my life the last few years to mine it for all of the wisdom, knowledge and wordplay that I could. The album is now available to stream and download on Bandcamp, and will arrive everywhere else by mid-January. 2017 was shaping up to be the year for me. I was coming off of a strong series of releases for about 8 years straight, and my docket for collaboration was starting to grow. One of the ground floor collaborators was the homie Lo Phi, who has always been prolific in my eyes when it came to production. What started as a follow-up EP to Manifest Station, over a period of 2 years, has shaped into a full-length project showing our collaborative growth despite both of us going through some of the most tumultuous periods of our lives. I am proud to announce, finally, that our latest collaboration will be ready for release in January of 2019. The project, Uncanny Valley, is full of wild production and deeply coded lyrics, as demonstrated by the lead single Just To Be Clear. Stay tuned for this release, and many others, in 2019, as many of my former loose ends come to fruition. Give the track a listen, a like, a comment, and share it around for prosperity in 2019!

Like George Clinton once said, ‘the funk can not only move, it can remove’. In my opinion, he meant removal in the sense of healing, and the healing power of music is undeniable. With that in mind, I think of ChurchCough as both therapeutic and entertaining the way that they bask in positive outlooks and affirmations. For ChurchCough & Friends, if it’s not obvious by the title, ConductHer and NonsenseSpence called in the help of some fellow like-minded artists to multiply the positive vibes. One of my favorite things to do as someone with a modicum of a voice in the Austin hip-hop culture is to share other creators that I find high caliber and inspiring. Doing this through mixes has always been a favorite way to do so, but it’s been a while since I dedicated time to doing so. With so many talented acts from or based in Austin, it’s impossible to get them all in one sweep, so Escapism : Southern Comfort reaches for the vibey side of things… all of my peers are substance-based, but these are acts that I consider high style as well. Direct peers like Riders Against the Storm (RAS), Cory Kendrix, anom, PNTHN, MC Homeless and Chris Conde, wallaby and bobbes, Ddotelles, Click-Clack and more get shine alongside established acts with Texas roots like BROCKHAMPTON and Travis Scott. I’m happy with this one, and hopefully folks dig it enough to spread it around!

After what has been a very busy stretch, something around 8 – 10 weeks, I’ve finally found time to return to the Escapism mix series. As usual, it’s heavy on the rhythm and heavy on the vibes, with an emphasis on favorites this time. This set is very similar to what I do during my Escapism Plan weekly residency at Tantra Coffeehouse in San Marcos, Texas. Over the past couple of years, the San Marcos-based production company Apogee Presents has put on a long run of successful festival and pop-up events featuring local bands, DJs, artists and vendors. Recently, they experimented with a new location along the Blanco river (a beautiful backdrop for a stage) in the form of Cosmic Shores, a two-day concert, party and campout. Videographer Daniel Yates was there with his camera, and the final results definitely capture the spirt of the event. soundfounder has been hyping this up for a moment, and now that moment is finally here… after securing a digital domain, rounding up talent, and putting all of the logistical ducks in a row, soundfounder has proudly introduced the world to Other Radio Texas, an online radio channel designed to cater to underground Texas creators and those that support them. Out of the many people in line to assist on the air, I was one of the lucky ones selected, so be sure to keep an open for mixes from my show Escapism on occasion. Chaznik of the Trial By Error Variety Show spends an inordinate amount of time searching for and interviewing bands across a wide spectrum of genres. Be it online investigation, festivals, or regular shows, Chaznik finds a way to interview many bands for his podcast. This past week, he decided it was time to do a collective follow-up on a number of these bands, hence the creation of Radio-esque Vol. 3. The podcast consists of quick updates for (and new music from) a large selection of bands, including yours truly. Been looking for something new to listen to? Look no further.
