Stacking Chips :: ‘Dirty Money’ Coming Courtesy Of Dominican Jay, $.Dot And Sertified

artworks-000660940651-1rm67t-t500x500

While not necessarily known for a high crime rate, Austin most definitely has its fair share of cats who can both talk that talk and walk that walk when it comes to hood moves.  When it comes to my personal preferences, no crew is representing that sound for Austin better than the League of Extraordinary G’z, and lately, the homie Dominican Jay has been putting out banger track after banger track.  The latest is another collaboration with $.Dot (who is quickly becoming another one of my favorite local MCs), and with the vocal assist from Sertified and a monster of a track from Ball TeamDirty Money is another Austin anthem in the making.  Check this one out, as it’s most certainly worth your time and efforts, and if you dig it, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for others!

Comeback Kids :: Chisme Reconnects For ‘Still Breathing’

a3705978771_10

Not that they were ever actually ‘gone’, but after putting in work on individual efforts across a handful of states, Progeny and R.E.L. better known as Chisme, have put together their highly anticipated 5th release, Still Breathing.  While focusing on the aforementioned efforts, the two found time to travel and connect over the past couple of years to continue creating, and in all honesty, their individual growth has resulted in a collective sense of pride and confidence that jumps out of the speakers at the listener.  I can’t wait to see these cats start performing some of these tracks, as the album energy is infectious, the lyrics dance around the textured tracks, and anyone not nodding their head is either fronting or deaf.  Dig it, share this one around for others to do the same, and support your local creatives!

Props Party :: College Of Hip-Hop Knowledge (CHHK) Drops Cypher For Austin Hip-Hop Awards

Tall Kyle, Big MicJSun the Prophesor, Big TreeSillMic Trey, The Culprit (with a special guest) and Kartune recently got the call from the Austin Hip-Hop Awards to create a cypher in the vein of the BET Awards, and to nobody’s surprise, the crew did not disappoint.  For any successful cypher, you need a banger of a track, and the high energy A$AP Ferg track East Coast served as the perfect platform for the collective of talented MCs to drop bar after bar after bar, with tons of historical, mythical and cultural references intertwined among an a vast array of styles and deliveries.  I love what the CHHK is doing for hip-hop at large, and for Austin-based MCs in particular, as it’s allowed a handful of promising individuals with raw talent to transform into the seasoned performers confident enough to present a cypher of this caliber.  If the past few years have been any indication, CHHK will be making big moves this year, so definitely stay connected with them for more dope output.

Joyful Noise :: Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice Drops Audio-Visual For ‘The Limit Is Mythic’

It feels good starting off 2020 on the right foot.  After a collaborative year with K Death of the iconic duo Moodie Black (a year in which she produced projects for several underground Texas juggernauts), I am happy to announce the release of Panic Ruminations on January 24.  In order to properly support the roll-out, I hooked up with the homie Jeffrey Garcia from the Dream-Atomic camp, and he helped me capture footage for the limit is mythic, the lead single from the upcoming project.  Check it out, leave a like and a comment, share it around so we can get those view counts up, and stay tuned for the release of the full project.

Skill Share :: SymmaTree Captured Live At Limelight By GoingSouthMagazine

The miles that SymmaTree has put in on the road the past few years, as mentioned many times on this blog, are an admirable achievement.  Be it far from or close to home, this tour time has allowed him a comfort on stage that puts him a cut above most of his contemporaries.  Recently, while doing a stint on the #InSearchOfTheBlackMessiah tour at Limelight in San AntonioGoingSouthMagazine had cameras on hand to capture SymmaTree‘s performance, and thanks to them, we get to experience it and share it around.  Dig it, leave a like and a comment if you’re moved to do so, and support your local creatives!

Moving Parts :: Warm Star Kicks Off 2020 With ‘(mixtape)*’

a0087417713_10

Austin never fails to impress me with the sheer range and variety of producers and beatmakers that reside in the area.  No matter what your taste is, someone is definitely making tracks that will speak to your sensibilities.  If you’re a fan of slightly glitchy, wonderfully off-kilter tracks that warp samples into new elements that are interwoven together intricately, then Warm Star most certainly has you covered.  On (mixtape)*Warm Star hits us with a dose of Prefuse73-esque vibes over two tracks that had me in the zone, for real.  Definitely looking forward to hearing more from (and possibly collaborating with) Warm Star in the future, but for not, you should jump on this while you can… and if you can donate a buck or two, you should.

Ugly Truths :: Feral The Earthworm Visualizes ‘Peace Of Shit’

Feral the Earthworm continues to be one of the singularly unique creators of recent years, as his latest run of music and videos has been high quality both visually and sonically.  Peace of Shit continues this tradition with a purposefully silly video animation that showcases Feral‘s iconic home-studio on wheels, while simultaneously showcasing his ability to reflect deeply on life in the seemingly most offhand of ways.  Rather than despise the lows, Feral espouses that we use them to ground us, therefore providing both perspective on and the opportunity to enjoy the highs that inevitably follow.  Feral the Earthworm continues to be my favorite groovy guru, so definitely subscribe to his page if you haven’t already, like the video, leave a comment, and spread this love and wisdom far and wide!

Throwback Visions :: Stack Moses Pitches ‘Fever’

It looks like Summer of 2020 will be the season that Dallas gets a new school entry into the blaxploitation cinema world in the form of Fever, a miniseries in the works courtesy of Stack Moses and crew.  Laura Kyong, Genae Monroe, Sukii Moreno & more will be lending their acting talents, and it looks like they’ve got the style side of things handled, so I can’t wait to see what kind of story unfolds.  Subscribe to the YouTube channel if you’re interested as well, as I’m sure announcements regarding crowdfunding, production and release will be rolled out in the near future.  In the meantime, leave a like and a comment on the video, and share it around for others to do the same!

Good Vibration :: Poolboi Blu Dives Into 2020 With ‘Sincere (Volume 013)’

artworks-000660710128-9b4e3s-t500x500

You already know that I’m tuning in when poolboi blu drops a new entry into his sincere mix series, so when (volume 013) got dropped as 2020 was ushered in, it only felt fitting, as poolboi blu had one of the most significant years of any of my music making peers.  Right out the gate, this mix shows the maturity that comes with experience, and knowing where my homie’s head is at right now, I know we’re going to see nothing but bigger and better things in the future.  I see the work he’s putting in, and I’ve heard some of the plans for the future, so at this point I’m just playing the waiting game so that I can say ‘I told you so’ when he’s making noise.  Dig the mix, leave a like and a comment, and share it around so everyone can get down.

Improvement Grooves :: Ooey Gooeys Close Out 2019 With ‘Do Better’

As we transition into the new year, as well as a new decade, it’s important to continue moving forward in all endeavors, creative or otherwise.  For the San Marcos-based Ooey Gooeys, it seems like their forward movement will be a continuation rather than a new start, as they kicked off season two of their video EP series on New Year’s Eve.  This collection, titled the Wanna Be EP, is starting off wonderfully with Do Better, an instrumental jam that allows everyone in the band moments to shine while showcasing the band’s collective ability to groove.  I’ll certainly be tuning in for the rest of the EP as they release songs, and I will continue to support the guys in 2020.  Check out the video, like, share and leave a comment, and subscribe to the channel to stay in the loop for future releases.
