Grimy Rhyming :: NORMAN BA$E Drops ‘ODB’ Single

The homie NORMAN BA$E stays representing that raw era of hip-hop that many people choose to sleep on, and in my opinion, he should be celebrated for it.  His latest single, the ultra-grimy ODB, is a collaborative effort with producer MînGø aka !YAD•NUS, is another notch in the belt of proof that BA$E is not the MC to be slept on, with it’s Wu-esque piano-laden production and BA$E‘s vivid metaphorical imagery.  Dig the single above, and if you’re feeling it, leave a like and a comment to let him know, and share it around so that everyone gets blessed.

Tribute Talk :: Clemits Gives Respect On ‘RIP MF DOOM FREESTYLE’

The announcement of MF DOOM‘s passing on New Year’s Eve of last year tore a hole in the collective heart of the hip-hop community.  It’s hard to find creators on any level from the past couple of decades that where not either directly or indirectly influenced by the legendary wordsmith and producer, so it only makes sense that creatives on all levels would feel the need to pay homage.  Recently, Clemits stepped into this realm with his RIP MF DOOM FREESTYLE, a quick blast of tribute released via his YouTube channel.  If you dig what he has to say about MF DOOM, or you miss MF DOOM like Clemits (and the rest of us do), don’t hesitate to leave a comment and a like on the video, and share it around for everyone to discover.

Rhythmic Revolution :: (RAS) Riders Against The Storm Give ‘Flowers For The Living’

With all that (RAS) Riders Against the Storm does for the community and the culture, it’s easy (and foolish) to forget that they are as talented at making music as they are driven at making social improvements.  If anyone needs a reminder (or an introduction) to their prolific music-making abilities, then you’re in luck, because they recently dropped their latest collection of songs in the form of Flowers For The Living.  Chaka and Qi are as sharp as ever over a dynamic and varied range of production, giving us everything from modern-era hip-hop stylings to outright dance tracks, all of which firmly fit into their aesthetic and sound completely natural.  The lead singles set a high bar, but there was never any doubt that (RAS) couldn’t meet (if not exceed) those expectations, and as usual, the dynamic duo came through in stellar fashion.  If you can spare a few bucks, cop the album from their Bandcamp page, but otherwise, find it on your favorite streaming site and run those numbers up!

Feminine Mystique :: RoyalKingMinus X Blazay Connect For ‘The Huntress’

San Antonio-based MC RoyalKingMinus is back with a banger in the form of The Huntress, a collaboration with producer Blazay.  The methodical, bass-heavy beat serves as the foundation for RoyalKingMinus‘s ruminations on a symbolic female figure discovering her own agency while simultaneously holding a connection to his fictionalized self-personification.  The song serves as the lead single from the upcoming Beethoven’s Hair LP, so if you feel this track, keep your eyes and ears open for the eventual release of the full-length!

Shop Talk :: #WeirdRapDiscussionGang Keeps Momentum Going With Episodes On Billy Woods And The Pharcyde

Being a part of the Weird Rap‘s YouTube and podcast series #WeirdRapDiscussionGang has not only been an honor, it has been extremely educational, insightful and inspirational.  As a lover of hip-hop and an ex-record store employee, the need to indulge in deep conversations about music and culture has been ingrained into my DNA, and thanks to Th’Mole#WeirdRapDiscussionGang has served as the perfect way to scratch that itch.  Our last two episodes featured an in-depth look at the incredibly dense mystery of an album that is Hiding Places by Billy Woods, as well as a discussion of the first two albums and overall career of Los Angeles hip-hop icons The Pharcyde.  If you love hearing nerds talk that nerd talk about moving music, then do yourself a favor and subscribe to the Weird Rap channel today, because it feels like this boulder is preparing to gain some momentum.

Triple Trouble :: BoomBaptist, Juicy The Emissary And Elaquent Release ‘Komfort Food’

You’ve seen the posts about the singles, but the moment of truth has finally arrived.  I’m sharing the release of Komfort Food directly off the strength of the parties involved : BoomBaptistJuicy the Emissary and Elaquent are all well known for their diverse and impactful production, so I know that I don’t need to have heard Komfort Food to know it’s an instant classic.  Trust me, I’ll definitely be bumping it this weekend, but in the meanwhile, why don’t you go ahead and give it a listen?  Maybe cop it?  Definitely share it around.

Coping Mechanisms :: PURPLEVILLAIN X EVOLVE Release ‘MAN – MADE MESS’

I’ve been a fan, peer and friend of EVOLVE for quite a few years now, and usually I’ve been able to witness his wins, ascension in the underground rap world, and collaborations with a number of MCs.  As a friend, however, I’ve also seen the rough times, and I know that 2020 took a much heavier toll on EVOLVE outside of the normal pain it gave us.  With the help of PURPLEVILLAINEVOLVE has been able to turn his painful journey into a deeply introspective and openly moving collection of songs titled MAN – MADE MESS.  While EVOLVE is usually known for clever wordplay and in-your-face, aggressive raps, but hearing him be so open and honest really works.  If you’re familiar with EVOLVE‘s work and are looking for a different shade in the spectrum, or you’re looking for a rare glimpse into what makes him tick as an individual, then don’t sleep on MAN – MADE MESS.

Faded Loyalty :: Cha’keeta B and Lakrea Drop Video For ‘In My Bag’

Cha’keeta B has been shooting shots for years, and in my opinion, she hasn’t missed yet.  This go ’round, she reached out to Lakrea for a brief but powerful rumination on how jealously can shift the intentions and actions of others titled In My Bag.  As with most all of the production Cha’keeta selects, this one is catchy and has plenty of bounce, which keeps her already inspired and high energy flow at a level that darts and weaves through the bassline and hi-hats.  As for lyrical content, you already know that if it’s coming from Cha’keeta B it’s going to be real talk, and Lakrea helps punctuate the matter with a memorable and catchy hook assist.  This one is rapidly approaching a four-digit view count, so if you want to help this clip achieve virality, go give it some spins, leave a like and a comment, and share it around for others to do the same!

Divine Mathematics :: Mad1ne And Henry Kool McKool Dissect ‘The Equation’

For an artist like Mad1ne, the recipe for dynamic and entertaining hip-hop is simple : clever and insightful lyrics delivered with supreme confidence on top of groove-inducing, new school throwback production.  This formula is so strong for him, in fact, that it seems as if his latest single, the Henry Kool McKool-produced The Equation, is a rumination on these very aspects of creation.  The tempo is deceptively upbeat given the cool, calm and collected nature in which the science is dropped, and the horn-infused track presented by McKool provides the perfect backdrop that allows the lyrics to breathe free and easy.  Definitely check out the track, cop it if you can, and share it regardless!

Recovery Raps :: CHASEISNORML Lets The World Know He’s ‘OKAY’

It’s been a minute since the homie now known as CHASEISNORML has tossed his hat into the hip-hop ring, but it appears that his absence may have done his some personal good.  His new single and video, the brooding and introspective OKAY, seems to be a bit of a confessional about his ascension from deep lows to his current status in life, all over a dark but vibey beat by Thurty Fiive (my apologies if this is a miscredit).  With a little help from videographer Roy Burkhart III and editor ViperHyperCHASEISNORML has blessed us with a set of visuals that help capture the vibe of where his head is currently at.  Check out the video, leave a like and a comment if it moves you, and share it around to run those numbers up!
