Spirit Lift :: Dr. Ew (Indubes) Drops ‘Salt [Beat Tape]’

Quite often, I take deep dives into the abyss that is YouTube, and one of my favorite discoveries is the lo-fi beat scene emergence, complete with looped anime clips to seal the deal on aesthetic.  That’s what makes it so great when a peer pops up in that realm, sort of like when I stumbled across Austin-based producer Indubes and a video titled Salt [Beat Tape].  The thirteen-ish minute beat tape consists of familiar piano and guitar samples, solid drum loops and programming, vocal samples, and a wonderful clip from Spirited Away that gets more and more delightful with each loop.  This is the kind of music that sets a mood, and that mood is one I won’t mind revisiting.  Quality work, and work that deserves sharing, commenting and liking.

Forever Flow :: D.O.S. Drops Bars At Hip-Hop Mecca’s Weekly Event

It’s true that D.O.S. is a man of many diverse talents, having reinvented himself from rapper/performer to a successful business owner and chef.  That being said, D.O.S. never lost his love for the mic, and clips like the one above prove it.  During a recent Hip Hop Mecca event at the legendary Flamingo Cantina in AustinD.O.S. jumped on stage with DJ Massiv to perform a few selections from the Ruler Why produced Obey The Raw, and as always, the flow and performance were on point.  If you’re looking for your hip-hop fix in AustinFriday nights at Flamingo Cantina are definitely where it’s at, and mad props to D.O.S. for continuing to grow in all aspects of his creative and professional life.

Global Position :: META Drops New Visual For ‘WYA?’

Over the past year or so, I’ve gotten the chance to check out META via his building with my homie poolboi blu.  The connection between San Marcos and Corpus Christi has been strong, and it seems that META is definitely thriving, both in Corpus and in his ventures elsewhere.  His latest video, WYA?, is a celebration of this movement, and a call for other artists to step up their games so that everyone is motivated to keep rising.  PRODUCE® and CC Visuals add flair to the video, and with an El Dusty track to work with, META effortlessly rides the beat with his energetic flow.  This video is money, so be sure to like and comment on it, and spread it around so others can do the same.

Funky Dividends :: Poolboi Blu Drops ‘Shmoney’

a2009000329_10

If feels like poolboi blu just blessed us with ANTSY, but clearly, he is not one to rest on his laurels.  After ‘taking January off’ like a lot of us creatives did (taking the month off being tongue in cheek, as we were still putting in work), poolboi blu is back in full swing for February with a follow-up track drop to his latest entry in the sincere mix series.  The track, shmoney, is a Cardi B flip with the distinct characteristics of both the sampler and the sampled present.  As a bit of a bonus, the mutual homie Red Comet stepped up with a video flip as well that perfectly suits the track.

Check out both of these gems, do the appropriate amount of downloading, commenting, sharing and all that, and don’t forget to support your local creatives!

Street Spirits :: Old Man Skateboards Drops ‘JOBS? YES PLEASE!’

Jansen Newcum of Old Man Skateboards has been putting in mad work in the world of skateboarding in order to turn what became an interest into a possible profession.  As anyone knows, one of the key elements of the skate world (when it comes to making a name for yourself) is the skate part, and after nearly three years of stepping things up, OMS and crew have dropped JOBS? YES PLEASE!, a celebration of improving your skills in street spots, no matter the weather.  Newcum is joined by Josh HarnellLaurent Lemecier and Mike Cooke as they take to all of the curbs, banks, gaps and parking bumpers they can find while kicking out flatground tricks and making lines.  Definitely inspirational stuff.  Check it out, give it a like and a share, and leave a comment on what tricks you wanna see the OMS crew attempt next!

Silent Wars :: Hyder Makes Moving Video For ‘Farewell’

Austin-based hip-hop artist Hyder is clearly here to raise the bar of what both an artist and an artistic statement can be.  The former poet turned MC is obviously comfortable taking on topics with weight, as he exhibits in Farewell by effortlessly espousing on the trials and tribulations we face from within and without as we attempt to navigate an often stressful and trying world.  The raw honesty captured in both the song and the video are moving, and the high quality of the video heightens the entire experience.  Definitely check this one out, like and comment on it, and share it around.

Headline News :: John Valley Premiers First Trailer For ‘Duncan’

2019 promises to be an exciting year for many creatives, myself included.  Exhibit A : John Valley and his debut feature film, Duncan.  After a successful crowdfunding campaign via Seed&SparkValley and crew shot the film, and going into festival season, it appears we may have something in the works that could potentially make some noise.  Working on this project was a blast, and I’m honored to be a part of it in any capacity.  Stay tuned to Duncan on your favorite form of social media, and be there when this one hits, because it feels like it’s going to hit big.

Reality Reflected :: Wallaby And Bobbes Drop ‘Day In The Life’ Video

Muggzy Flowz and Dr. Bobby BannerM.P.C., the duo more formerly known as Wallaby and Bobbes, seems to have two things on their mind when they release work : class and classics.  As for class, their presentation has always been consistently professional, with a down to earth aesthetic that makes connecting with their soulful music and thought-provoking lyrics that much easier.  Visually, the crew always makes clips that you could place in the canon of class and current hip-hop videos, and the work will be quality enough to fit right in.  Day in the Life finds the crew performing soundstage style this time, drowned in a white abyss as the camera floats around them like a spirit.  Add the dissolves and fades that tie together visually like a dream, and you’ve got a hypnotic and mesmerizing video that will certainly rack up views.  Definitely spread this one around.

Dropping Science :: Protextor And MoneyNetwork Talk Over ‘Aladdin’ On ‘Rappers Playing Games (RPG)’

Baby Lion is doing it so well that they get to bookend the weekend!  Protextor has decided to hit us with back to back episodes of Rappers Playing Games (RPG) within a week, and the latest episode features special guest MoneyNetwork and the Sega Genesis classic Aladdin.  The pair play the surprisingly difficult game and talk about diversification of creative ventures, the information age, making blogs, objective knowledge and much more in one of the most interesting and vivid conversations to take place on the show to date.  This series is catching steam, and with as many talented artists as there are in the Austin area (many of whom I can almost guarantee are gamers), I imagine we will have plenty of episodes to look forward to.  Give this one a like, leave a comment, and share it around so others can do the same!
