Making Moves :: The Vapor Caves Set Off Upward Movement With ‘The Chase’

a2088974734_10

Mark this as a ground-floor moment, and an opportunity to say you were down with The Vapor Caves before they blow up.  With the release of The Chase, the duo is looking like they are stepping things up to another level right in front of our eyes.  Not only did they drop a brilliant promotional campaign for the single, but the song gained placement in the upcoming premier for the final season of the wildly successful Broad City on Comedy Central, airing tonight (January 24).  Check out the single, share it around, and tune in to see how it fits on the show… and as always, support your local creatives!

Linking Up :: Lo Phi (7LayerOscillator) And Rez Team Up For ‘Two Piece Minivan’

a0228342471_10

If it’s not already common knowledge that anything dropping with a connection to Exploded Drawing (in)Sect Records needs to be checked out immediately, then it should be.  Case in point : over the weekend, Lo Phi (recording under alter-ego 7LayerOscillator) teamed up with fellow Houston native Rez for two piece minivan, a brief but invigorating sonic landscape of powerful drums, tape hiss, chopped vocal samples and general mastery of the oddly and uniquely comforting.  On their own, each producer can more than hold it down, but this combination is one of those rare occurrences where the collaborative effort yielded a sound cohesive enough for me to not be able to tell who was responsible for individual aspects of the composition.  In my opinion, that makes this a truly special collaboration, and one worth immediately listening to, sharing around with fellow music lovers, and one worth that minimal (and more than likely joke) price tag on the track.

Deeply Connected :: The Vapor Caves Take A Look Back At ‘I Miss You’

a1738282454_10

The Vapor Caves (as BoomBaptist and Yadira Brown of Keeper are collectively known) have been on the rise the last few years, and 2019 promises to hold great things in store for them.  In preparation for the new year, BoomBaptist decided to take a trip down memory lane and reminisce on the winter of 2015, when he sent Yadira Brown a collection of hip-hop beats as a Christmas present.  Out of the 15 sent, Yadira chose three, and the first official collaboration between the artists that would later form The Vapor Caves was I Miss You, a very 1990s-esque hip-hop track where Yadira sings and rhymes about attraction and the process of letting your guard down to accept those feelings.  As a present to all of us, the group decided to release the track for free, so definitely download it and share it around, as the next moves that The Vapor Caves have in store are big ones.

Dropping Science :: Protextor And MoneyNetwork Talk Over ‘Aladdin’ On ‘Rappers Playing Games (RPG)’

Baby Lion is doing it so well that they get to bookend the weekend!  Protextor has decided to hit us with back to back episodes of Rappers Playing Games (RPG) within a week, and the latest episode features special guest MoneyNetwork and the Sega Genesis classic Aladdin.  The pair play the surprisingly difficult game and talk about diversification of creative ventures, the information age, making blogs, objective knowledge and much more in one of the most interesting and vivid conversations to take place on the show to date.  This series is catching steam, and with as many talented artists as there are in the Austin area (many of whom I can almost guarantee are gamers), I imagine we will have plenty of episodes to look forward to.  Give this one a like, leave a comment, and share it around so others can do the same!

Moving Pictures :: Tåsi Releases Music Video For ‘Reflect’

I recently stumbled across the music video for Reflect, the latest single by Tåsi, and was struck by the artistic quality of the images, and how perfectly they matched the well crafted song by Tåsi and his producer Malekhino.  The entire affair has a cinematic quality to it, like a Bergman or Altman film with a camera that resembles a spirit moving.  The feel matches what Tåsi speaks about in terms of introspection, taking personal inventory, and as the title states, reflection on your journey.  Definitely a gem worth spreading around… and be sure to leave a like and a comment when you do share it.

Punctuated Moments :: Wild Child Releases New Music Video For ‘Sinking Ship’

I’ve always believed that a possible key to the continued success of Wild Child would be song placement in TV shows or films, and the release of Sinking Ship in music video form, for my money, has validated that feeling.  Rather than focusing on members of the band, this video instead decides to lay out a visual narrative, with the song bolstering the emotional moments we are allowed to experience between the young couple the video focuses on.  The acting is poignant, and without a word uttered, it is easy to feel what each character is going through, and this is largely due to the music Wild Child serving as the guide.  Each new video they release confirms my fandom of the group further… definitely check this one out.

Made Man :: Cory Kendrix Drops ‘OMG’ Single

a2928520780_10

Cory Kendrix is starting to build a reputation as a stylistic chameleon.  He’s always been known for dropping bars, but recently, he made a shift into KNDRX mode, which allowed him to explore the more melodic realms of his sound.  I initially thought that this was an overall style shift, but I’ve come to find out that that was just foolish of me to assume, as Cory Kendrix seems to be prepping us for the release of Ignorance 2 by dropping a certified banger in the form of OMG.  The beat is fire, the bars and delivery are on point, and the overall vibe sticks in your head, so much so that you’ll probably find yourself humming the track well after you’re done listening.  You know the drill, people… share it, support it, and keep checking back here for more and more of that good stuff.

Unified Minds :: SniperShot Releases ‘We Are One’ Music Video

My man SniperShot can always be counted on for positive vibes, enriching lyrics, dope video ideas, and doper execution.  His latest magnum opus comes in the form of We Are One, an affirmation that, no matter what you’re going through or experiencing, you are not doing it alone in the greater scope of things.  The idea is transmitted via a clever visual editing trick that works extremely well.  Definitely check this one out, share it around, and like/comment it up!

Healing Sounds :: Kinder Rehabs Via ‘Big Low (Ginger Root)’

a3236658957_10

All of us have our own ways of healing when we’re sick.  Most people I know take medicine.  I try to clear my schedule of all things and sleep it out.  It appears that my homeboy kinder is the type to expel sickness via making music.  Dig the testimony from the man himself in regards to the creation of Big Low (Ginger Root) :

Made between 12/27/2018 and 1/04/2019 while I was bedridden with a peritonsillar abscess.  Ambient for the sake of healing.

That about sums it up… the beats are spacious and ambient, occasionally coming together into slim but definitive structures that stand out on their own while sounding wonderful as a collection of tracks.  Give the project a listen, a share, and a few bucks if you can so we can keep kinder healthy and productive.
