Always Working :: Virgil Wolfe Premiers His ‘Lunch Time Bust Rhymes’ Series

Wordsmith Virgil Wolfe, like many of us, is forced to work a day job to make the ends meet.  The thing about Virgil, however, is that his brain never stops working, and the bars will come regardless of where he may be at any given time.  In an effort to serve this urge and be productive while dedicating his time to someone else, Virgil Wolfe has created the Lunch Time Bust Rhymes series, where he pulls a beat from one of his many collaborators, writes to it during his lunch break, and then records a take for storage and sharing on his YouTube channel.  The video above features a banger from producer (and the homie) kal.kal, with other videos containing production from TrueHoustonEmceeRun C.T. and Heavo.  These brief moments provide us with a bit of insight in Virgil‘s process, both creatively and on a more personal level.  I look forward to not only seeing more installments, but seeing if some of these snippets turn into full fledged songs.

Fear Tactics :: Bird Peterson Makes His Original Score Of ‘Night Of The Living Dead’ Available To Stream

From the digital desk of Teenage Riot Records :

After two successful Halloween live performances at the Alamo Drafthouse Ritz theater in Austin, Bird (Peterson) has finally released his critically acclaimed version of the classic genre definer Night Of The Living Dead featuring his new original score.  Inspired by 80s horror and post-modern classical composers, the “driving synth filled” new soundtrack creates “an ongoing, rising pulse that brings out the natural anxiety of the film”.  The full soundtrack is also now streaming everywhere and available for sale from Teenage Riot Records.

Spirits Moving :: Gost Drops Collection Of Songs With ‘Vol. 1’

Screenshot_1

Of the many lyricists I’ve met in the central Texas area, few have the combination of charisma, beat selection and lyrical prowess that Gost was blessed with.  After several years of live performances, previous releases and a bit of grinding, Gost has put together Vol. 1, a four song collection meant to give new (and old) listeners a glimpse into his world and at the direction things are headed for him.  These are songs that remind me of the hip-hop that I was raised on and influenced by… straight-forward, honest, compelling and composed with love and skill.  These songs are definitely worth your time, listens, comments and shares, so get on it!

Great Radio :: Other Radio Texas Hits The Airwaves

Screenshot_1soundfounder has been hyping this up for a moment, and now that moment is finally here… after securing a digital domain, rounding up talent, and putting all of the logistical ducks in a row, soundfounder has proudly introduced the world to Other Radio Texas, an online radio channel designed to cater to underground Texas creators and those that support them.  Out of the many people in line to assist on the air, I was one of the lucky ones selected, so be sure to keep an open for mixes from my show Escapism on occasion.  Big things are in store for the radio station, so keep yourself locked in for details and updates!

Blue Collar :: Faylita Hicks Unviels ‘Verses & Tips’ Series With ‘Wolf’

Like most every independent creative, Faylita Hicks spends the moments that she isn’t creating slaving away at a day job.  Most all of us creatives have visions of one day making a living off of our art, but sadly, that cannot be the case for many of us.  As a way to bridge that gap between making a living off of her creations and making a living off of a day job, Faylita Hicks has started the Verses & Tips series, where she performs online and gives fans/supporters the opportunity to donate money via one of several digital funds transfer services.  Her latest poem in the series, Wolf, was chosen by fans out of the many published poems that Faylita Hicks has written, so definitely check it out and throw some money her way if you can.  If you can’t, be sure to share the video around so those who can may become aware.

Granted Wish :: Virgil Wolfe Tags In Chief And TheDoomsdayDevice For ‘Lovely To Look At’ Remix

Screenshot_1

A month or so ago, Virgil Wolfe debuted a new single (a collaboration with producer Big Lo) titled Lovely To Look At, and it made an impression on me.  It made such an impression, in fact, that I concluded my blog entry on the song by suggesting a remix with myself on it wouldn’t be a bad idea.  Cut to the present time, and what seemed at first like a wild request has become a stark reality.  Lovely To Look At still jams, but now there’s an extra bit of lyrical craftsmanship from yours truly tagged on at the end, and the possibility of more collaborations in the future.  Check out the new version of the track, share it around, and if you really dig it, give it a like and a comment!

Well Connected :: Abuzayed The Free Presents Video For ‘To God From God’

Abuzayed the Free has never been ashamed to explore or talk about her oneness with nature, spirituality and hip-hop.  In her latest music video, a collaboration with La Bu for To God From GodAbuzayed speaks on these specific topics with confidence and love.  Her refrain about ‘making love to the air with her breath’ encapsulates her vast feelings in a nice, easy to digest capsule of wisdom and assertion.  Give this video a like, comment and a share so that you can help spread some much needed positivity around.

Diverse Vibes :: Kinder Drops Mega-Mix With ‘Kinder Medleys Vol. 1’

Screenshot_4

One listen to the original production of Exploded Drawing standout kinder lets you know that his musical palette is diverse and expansive.  His compositions easily touch the bases of electronic, hip-hop, folk and rock sensibilities without over-indulging in any specific genre for too long.  With the recent rainy spell that San Marcos has weathered (no pun intended), kinder took it as an opportunity to dig through his vinyl collection and put together a feature-length mix in the form of kinder medleys vol. 1.  Take a peek at the track listing, or just throw on some headphones and dive in… and be sure to share this one around, give it a like, and leave a comment on your favorite song!
